Hi,

You have a good profile with strong GMAT, work experience and EC's. Based on your brief profile you can apply to Wharton, MIT, Kellogg, Yale, Tepper, Emory, Darden and Ross. The key is to focus more on your applications and apply in early rounds to compete for scholaraships. Based on your key deciding factors these are the schools you should plan to apply in early rounds.

Very generic goal here. What exactly are you going to do after your MBA? Product Strategy Management roles, or IT strategy consulting, or CTO roles in startups? Would you wish to stick to Telecom or would seek to change industries? You need to have some clarity on these.

There are a lot of technology and hi-tech management B-schools around the world but I can only offer specific advice if and when you give more clarity on your profile and your goals.

While it may be very mouth watering for you to leave job and plunge into MBA prep, it is not at all recommended. It is a self-defeating thing you are going to do. One of the most important aspects of you B-school applications is your professional profile and you are weakening the same profile in order to get into a B-school? Working on B-school apps along with a job is a challenge for sure. But nothing big, a huge number of applicants do that. Take up the challenge.

I'm new to this place, & looking for some info reg. what role an ''employment gap'' would play if I were to apply for B Schools abroad in 2014.


Here's my situation ~

Always happy to help an aspirant. If you are looking US, you may also look at Kellogg as a potential school to apply to. A tough nut to crack but gives a lot of weightage to leadership experience. If you are able to bring out your team-leading, initiative taking experience in your essays and keep note of the points we mentioned above, you stand a chance to secure interview call from Kellogg.

@[791013:sailor84] Considering your background, you can go for Rotterdam School of Management, Copenhagen Business School, IESE Spain and INSEAD. Diverse experience along with meaningful social experience should help you get calls from suggested top rung B-Schools. RSM and CBS have some focus on shipping related curriculum.
Working with host of shipping aspirants over the years we have realized that it is very vital for you to differentiate yourself from your pool. At times there are similar stories pertaining to grain cargo loading-unloading projects, regarding how you did well in a bad weather or a piracy situation etc.
But here the key is to stay away from routine projects and only focus on spikes which would differentiate you from others. Talk about your dry-dock projects if any or any process improvement initiatives which you lead. What is your learning on supply chain operations and people management front. Such examples in essays would get you interview calls. It would be helpful if you can share your GMAT score as well.

@hramkhor The negatives you pointed out are much more prominent than the positives. German auto sector is good, fine. Geography matters, well and good. But let us ponder over this point, if you get your MBA from a top notch US B-school or for that matter European brand such as HEC Paris and then apply to a German Auto firm, will it not hire you? Your focus should be on quality management education, getting in the best possible B-school you can. An economical MBA degree is not a good decision if it cannot give you world-class management education and if it cannot give you an amazing peer group and alum network. Do apply to a European/German B-school but best of them. Do not think of an MBA as having a short term impact on your life. An MBA is an investment in yourself, choose the best that suits your career requirements first and then your financial requirements. A good MBA program can change your life drastically or it won't change you even one bit. I believe an aspirant should prefer the former.

You have good amount of work experience and average academics, with your current profile you can apply to Thunderbird, Purdue, carlson, Babson college in US and Univ of Edinburgh, City Univ - Cass and Warwick b-school in UK. Also let me know your geographic preference and post MBA career goals so that I can suggest you few more good 1 year programs.

actually i have got an admit from SUNY Buffalo for MBA.. but I am confused since its rank is not quite good and avg salaries are 55k .. since i have got 2 years of exp .. and i dont know if il get a better b-school is such less cost in usa next year .. so i m considering this option seriously.. but really confused if i shud wait for another year or go for SUNY this year.. can anyone suggest on this ?

What is the specific industry you are looking at? And why not take GMAT? Many business schools may emphasize on a GMAT score and only applying with a GRE score me limit your options.

i have already given GRE and have heard quite a few good schools also take GRE like Mays Business school ..dont have much idea..so wanted to check if I can get any schools with this profile itself..

I am not sure about this activity. In a logical sense of things, ETS is a business, and if it is doing such activity, it is transforming one of it's products to another to provide a flexibility to it's customers.

@tina90 You should really consider appearing for the GMAT exam and getting a good score. All the best B-schools consider this a good gauge for applicants and it is universally accepted. In the meantime, you need to do a lot of research before you choose the schools that suit your needs the most.

As far as I know, b-schools do not allow transfers. You can check further by looking through the Admissions FAQ pages of the programs that you are talking about.

Is a transfer of school possible even before i join the program? as the admission deadlines are over i wont be apply to the schools at this region and hence transfer is the only option for me. IF a transfer is not possible now is there anyway i can get a transfer in the middle of my school year say after the first semester. Please enlighten me on the above in detail.

I need answer to just one question
I had given my final year exam of BE in june-2007 and cleared all my papers. However one subject of 3rd year was a backlog and i cleared it in dec-2007 and so on my degree certificate its written 2008 passing and have passed my final year in 2007. I was working from june-2007 to june 2008. so will i be able to write 2007 as my graduation and also will my experience of that one year will be counted.

i ve an admit from syracuse with 24k scholarship and bentley with 16k scholarship and am awaiting response after interviews from KOGOD and from UMIAMI.

Can someone please advise me on what if i get an admit and a GA but no scholarship from MASON. WHich should i pick??

The basic reason am thinking abt the school more than the scholarship is that i would like to return back to India after a couple of years of work ex post MBA.

Am thinking of a toss up between whitman and mason.

Do the mason brand name make a difference more than the WHitman school of business when i plan to get back?
