just got my admit from HKUST. R1 Applicant. They gave me a scholarship of HK$ 75,000.

However my admissions is conditional, given I have to provide them with the following

the official GMAT report
the official transcript and certificate of the first degree with official English translation
an official document which indicates the medium of instruction of the completed undergraduate or postgraduate degree program was English
the employment proof of all the job positions held listed on the application
the salary proof of the latest 12 months

There is a spelling difference in my middle name in passport and in my mark sheets.
I will be applying for 2012 batch, And at that time my surname will change as i will be married then.

Got an admit from HKUST.

Few questions i have:-

1. I am interested in IT/strategy/operations kind of profiles but since hkust is primarily a finance b school , how easy or tough wud it be to get into such profiles?
2. I have no background in finance wat so ever, how does one cope up with studies in finance or even manage to have a good focus and understanding?
3. Is the ROI good enough in the sense that one can come back to india and work?
4. How much scholarship is possible?Does anyone know of any other scholarships that indians can apply for higher studies to get funded for mba's?

This is a HKUST forum. So not sure why you are looking at HKU/CU and posting here. In case you were asking about HKUST, no set GMAT score limits.

Any experience that is genuine is counted. It depends on how you put it in the essay and interview. Most colleges have an Aug start in HK.

I got an application package today informing me that i had been admitted!!! :)
Was surprised since i felt my interview did not go very well!!

Varun, my gmat is 740 and i have 5.5 yrs of experience in Management Consulting with a big four company. I have decent extra curricular and good academic background. You shed bright light on the darkness which has been consuming me becuz of my bad GPA/acads.. I have a great extra curricular like award winning photography& prof multi music instrumentalist, avid social blogger but my BE Electronics from mumbai - 56%)was poor and currently 2yrs work ex as a management info analyst... I am always a quite spectator in these forums where all the biggies with powerful acads are romping it off!! But wen u say low acads... how low can u get?? Whats the best way to cover up a bad GPA? i know the obvious kicka$$ GMAT& essay, but any other advice to top it up??

Worked in Steel Industry for 1 year in India.
Got schol in Asian Institute of Technology and persued Masters in Design and Manufacturing Engineering.
Worked with Mattel Inc as Process Enginner (manufacturing) in Thailand for 1.2 years.
Worked with Johnson Electric International Ltd, Hong Kong; based in manufacturing plant in China for 1 year.
Moved to Jardine Engineering Corporation, Hong Kong. This company is part of Jardine Matheson and the business in infrastructure development. Currently seconded to Thailand office of Jardine Engineering.
Learning Thai. Have picked up some Chinese words as well while I worked in mainland.

So all my three years of work have been in SE asia and east asia except 1 year in India.

I have presented 2 international conference papers in Chile and Austria and I also have a journal paper to my credit. I have no idea what major should I persue during MBA.

I am looking for a career in consulting in east or SE asia post MBA. I dont think I will be good at finance.

Can someone please guide me to identify what major should I look for considering I have worked in manufacturing industry and currently into infrastucture development industry, which is basically related with industrial engineering.

I am contemplating applying to HKUST for MBA, class of 2010. Partially interests come from the fact that i have worked in HK for 3 years and absolutely love the city. :-).
My career interest is to work in Asia in general management / operations or marketing. I would like to know how good the course in HKUST is for these fields. Please let me know how the placement is from HKUST in companies like P&G;, Unilever and other manufacturing firms.. I know that it is rated quite highly for finance courses but could really not find any information for these field. I came to know that the 2 yr program is quite new in HKUST. Please let me know if this is not the case. If it is, please let me know how does that affect the future (other than the lack of alumni network).

Also what is general profile of students coming into HKUST? I could not find the detail on website.

I am in the current MBA batch , dont have much info abt MS Finance. As per the site , I guess the classes are held only on weekends and the average workex of class of 32 students is 10.8 years .

could you tell me something about the clubs in HKUST..
do we have any Technology club or hi tech club..

I checked out all the clubs in HKUST.. could not find any Tech club.

are these clubs common to diffferent schools? i mean, - for ex: do Business school students are in any way part of IT club of Computer Science department of HKUST or any other club of any other dept like social science?
