Hi Puys I am starting this thread to help prospective students learn more about Melbourne Business School. I will be joining MBS in Jan 2012. Will try to answer questions myself as well as get answers from students at MBS.

Aggnikhil is right!! Since it's a rolling admission, apply for september and if they already have filled the class they will get you on the january intake. Seems a good plan to me...
The only difference between Jan and Sep intake is the course start time.
Cheers

What is the difference between Sep intake and Jan intake?? I plan to apply to MBS and I feel I will have better chance to make it if I apply for the Jan intake since is mid march already?
Nikhil is right, there is only one program being offered for september 2012, it will be a 12 months MBA, with internship (1 month) and exchange program. Of course scholarship will be granted for some people. They changed the program length in order to be more accurate, they make changes every 3 years. They will also accept more students, around 70 students for this Full time MBA. The official program will be released soon as it was already explained in this forum. Cheers,

If you check the officila info on MBS website the structure of the course shows the 20 months program, but in the upper side there is a note regarding the new program. You'll probably have more info than me but to me, it seems that there will be both programs (at least I hope).

Nikhil, What do you mean when you say only one full time program is being offered? The website says "The School accepts new students into the full-time MBA in January and September each year." Is there something I am missing here? Cheers! CE
Hi DaRoiT, As far as application is concerned, APPLY! Further, only one full-time 12month program is on offer. So, no choice as such. Cheers

I know I'm a little bit late, but I want to apply for September 2012 intake. Do you think it will be possible, considering it's a rolling-admission process?
I read that the dates have changed, are you sure that there will be no 18 months programme any more?, or you can choose between 12 or 18 months?

Good luck to all and hope to catch up with you in few months.

Hi Puys...Hi nikhil.....as u know I also got admit for MBS couple of weeks back.....just wanted to share response from adcom regarding scholarship for those who are curious: "Please be advised that all MBA applications are automatically considered for Melbourne Business School Scholarships. The Scholarship Committee will use the original application that was submitted for entry into the MBA and scholarships are awarded on merit, to a range of candidates across age, gender, discipline and nationality.
Candidates are advised that competition for scholarship support is intense and you should not apply for the MBA program unless you are able to be entirely self-funding.
Further information pertaining to the MBS Scholarship outcome for the September 2012 Full time program will be provided at the time of providing formal offer letters."

Hi Vincebest, I haven't heard of any book yet, let you know if I receive something. Anyway there are some books you should probably read before entering the program but that depends of your background. Cheers
Does anyone knows if there is a list of books we can read before entering the program?

That seems more fair that way! I think this new program is gonna be very good, less time studying and still internship and exchange program! They are doing a great job!
As of now it looks like 10% in advance and then 90% throughout the program.
Will let u know if it is otherwise.
But AUD 2000 is definitely out.
Cheers

What do you mean by 10% of tuition instead of 2000 AUD? Does it mean that if my tuition is 75 000 AUD I will have to pay 7500 AUD and then 75 000 AUD ? Or we''l pay 10% in advance and then 90% throughout the program?

Guys, Just an update, the AUD 2000 is no longer being charged. Acceptance fee which now has to be paid will be adjusted against tuition. It will be 10% of tuition.

I have personally not heard of any books costs from current students till now.
Student Health insurance is approx. AUD 480 for one year.
Visa fee AUD 550.
Airfare and living expense are both subjective and location dependent.
Also, from this year approx 25% of the class will get scholarship depending on merit.
Hi Aggnikhil,
Thx for the valuable information
Could u pls help me with ur contact number?
Need some help on the interview and MBS in general

As Nikhil already pointed out, the tuition will be revised to around 75k AUD for sep intake. Plus, international students have to pay an extra 2000 AUD as acceptance fee which by the way is not adjusted towards the tuition fee. Take 20k AUD as a good enough budget for living expenses for an year. Add to that book costs, health insurance, air fare. That is a total of about 98k AUD or 105k USD at current exchange rate. But this is assuming you get 0 scholarship. A worst case estimate.....

Yes it will be a telephonic interview which will be very very relaxed. Apart from the regular questions like why mba, why mbs and why now, you can prepare for questions like:
1 what are the advantages and disadvantages of working in a cross cultural environment? 2. What is the last book you read and will you recommend it to others? 3. Some experiences from your work or college life where you helped others.
Keep it simple and honest and you will be all good.
All the best.
Thx for ur Reply !

In fact I would add another 3 months of living expenses as that is the minimum you would need to find a job post graduation. And I didn't even mention the visa fee yet. So we are talking some SERIOUS amount of money. But then again, this is the amount you will have to shell out for any intern...

Vincebest, Just to add what Coolalways said. MBS has interview as part of the application process so if u have submitted your application, you will have an interview and only after that will a decision be made on your candidature. So your application is not decision-ready till interview is done and getting an interview call does not reflect anything on your admission chances.
Funds you will need: I think AUD75000 (tuition, still not final)+living expense, can vary between AUD16000-26000 depending on individual. Hope this helps. For those living in India, CREDILA can help.

Hey Nikhil. Any pointers on how to arrange funds? The total cost should be around 90k AUD or about 100k USD in the worst case of no scholarship. Indian banks will give around 40k loan. Any other means??

Dear Vincebest, Don't worry. So far I have not heard a single application being denied. Patience is the key. You will definitely get a call if your experience and GMAT is even decent. All the best.
No problem aggnikhil, Well the school finally answered my email and said they will give me an answer this week (still waiting). I hope the 18 months program won't be a 12 months in september, because I am really interested in internship.
