You would need to take an interview after you submit your application. There is no rule as such, but you can expect an interview invite in 2 weeks and a final decision in another week. The application load should be less now and they would also be aware that you have less time to file for visa.

Hi,

The MSF program at Krannert is very good and surprisingly they do not expect you to know the basics in finance before you join the program. A regular 2 year MBA gives you the opportunity to explore other areas that you might have an interest in, but that is not the case with MSF.

Regarding job opportunities, international students will find it difficult regardless of the area of specialization.

My suggestion to you would be to reach out to the admission team at Krannert and ask them specific questions that you have. You can also request them to pass on the contact information of a current MSF student and you can talk to him/her.

I'm sure there will be a lot of people interested in sharing accommodation. I know for sure i am interested in sharing accommodation. You are right that offcampus is cheaper, but its also less convenient. Students stay in Rawls until 1 or 2 at night. If you're staying within a 5 minute walking distance, its easier to just go home and crash. Its a pain to walk for 15 minutes after you have had an 18 hour day(worse when its -10C outside).

But im sure you have a plan and i would love to hear what you have to say.

I believe they would contact us sometime in June. I doubt the list of companies that come to campus would be made available in advance. I assume that the list varies significantly year after year. My suggestion would be to make a list of your own companies that you want to get into. Don't rely on campus placements.

All the information that you need to know along with the details of what you need to do will be shared with you once you come to campus. The advice is to start on this much before as it will make it easier on you. 2-3 weeks is hardly enough to prepare for a career fair, when you have to worry about things like accomodation, SSN, GA hunt (in case you have already not got one) and on borading.

As I said earlier, staying off-campus is pretty much cheaper and commuting from there in car is a very good idea. You have a challenge here. I got to know from the current students that the parking passes near Rawl's hall and in the garage opposite to Union have been sold out for the next year. I'm not sure if that is true. The other option is street parking which is only for 2 hours.

I too have a car, but no parking pass will not help me. We can always check to see if we get a parking pass.

Ankur,

GCS will reach to us probably in the next 2 weeks with the standard resume template they want us to follow. The Krannert Launch is on Aug 6th. So, those first 2 weeks are for the orientation and team building activities. They didn't tell us about the companies visiting the fair. So, guessing they will be coming to us as time approaches.

The career fair is in September. Since the time is really short, it is better to prepare a one page resume right away. There is a format and you will be contacted by GCS. The whole plan is to be prepared well before the career fair. Decide on the companies that you want to get into, rank them on priority and then work towards that. When i say work towards that i mean things like interview preparation, trying to find a contact (through friends, seniors, relatives etc) and resume modifications that suit a particular profile. When Satish mentioned portfolio, this is what he was talking about.

The career fair will be for getting an internship. If you're a second year student, it will be for securing a full time job.

1) Resume : Is this the requirement of a specific department and what exactly will be done with it at the start of the classes. Is there a specific format they have suggested ?
2) Portfolio : Do you refer to photographs or something else ?

Also, 5th Oct Career fair....what is expected from us there ? interns something ?

Offcampus is pretty much cheaper than oncampus obviously. There are couple of things you need to consider before making a decision.
1. Oncampus costs are $300-500 per person excluding electricity bills, at a walkable distance to Rawl's hall where our classes will be held. They lease single bedroom for 1 person in a 3 BHK or 4 BHK apartments. 1 BHK are rare, but you can find them around $450. It is suggested to stay on hill as it gets very difficult in winters to walk uphill in the cold and snow.Offcampus costs are cheaper. You can get a 1 BHK at the same price. The cost of 2 BHK and 3 BHK flats depends on the distance from the campus. It is preferable to stay to the west side of the river.
2. The last bus from the campus to the city is mostly around 7PM. You would be staying in the campus till 9-10PM most of the days. If you have other option for commuting (car or car pool), you can choose to stay offcampus.

Coming to NOI, I haven't filled it yet. I'm planning to fill it this week.

We need to report for Krannert Launch on Aug 6th. Krannert Launch is from Aug 6th to Aug 17th, the second week being about Team building activities. Classes start from Aug 20th. The first Career fair is on Oct 5th. So, it all going to be sitting on your head right away. Do not worry. We would get support from GCS (name changing to LGL - Launching Global Leaders) and Clubs (Operations Club, Consulting Club, Finance Club and others).

But I also have been given an admit in NUS. But the scholarship decision is still pending.

Can someone please guide me? What is the value of NUS brand outside Asia?
I want to major in HR (NUS has something known as Strategy and Organization); so is it really the case that I need to know Mandarin if I expect to get a job in Singapore post MBA??

I am quite confused.

Just back from the Krannert weekend. As Satish put it, its an incredible experience. I dont think i can capture the entire set of events in one post because we did so many things during the 2 days we were there.

I think Krannert should start an official facebook page for the 2014 batch and invite every admitted student to be a part of it. I met some wonderful people during the event and i would love to stay connected with them.

Let me know if i can answer any questions that you might have. But more importantly, email Brian/Andre with any questions you might have. They might take a day or 2 to get back, but they sure will.

Krannert Weekend:
Day 1 : 13th April, 2012.
My visit started with a class visit. I attended Manufacturing Strategy by Tom Brush, where they continued the discussion on a case from last class and then started the discussion on a new topic. This is an elective in the 4th Module it seems.

After the 1 hr 20 min class, we went to the Ad com office for the Krannert Weekend registration and met so many admitted students and the Ad com - Brian Precious, Andrae, Brenda and GA students. We were escorted to the Luncheon where few representatives from each department were sitting with us at each table. We got to understand the functions of the respective departments and what they are expecting from GA students. After the lunch, we got to meet for just 5 mins each and every department which had GA's. It was kind of unofficial interviews. If we had specific questions, we got appointments to talk to them again after 3PM. We were lucky to go onto a campus tour by a current undergraduate student who would be joining us in the Fall. In fact, there are couple of American undergraduate students completing their undergraduation this summer would be joining us in the Fall. We dispersed around 4:30 PM to meet for Welcome Dinner for all prospective students, including those who didn't get GA's.

We were assigned a Student representative/Mentor from 1st or 2nd year and that student took care of clarifying all our questions regarding concentrations, courses, professors, clubs, interns, jobs, housing etc. We got to meet Tad, the new Dean and the Dean from the University.

Day 2 : 14th April, 2012.
We had a hectic schedule for the 2nd day. The day started off with a Faculty round-table where the Faculty Head Ananth Iyer introduced the faculty members and each one of them had a quick self-intro. It was followed by break-out sessions from each faculty and we had the option to choose 3 out of the lot. I chose to meet Mathew Lynell (ELI and Management Consulting), Suresh Chand (Operations, GSCM) and Tom Brush (Strategy).

After lunch with our teams and team mentor, the mentor took us for a tour of Rawl's Hall, followed by Team photos. We then attended presentations from Graduate Career Services, Student Services & Development and Krannert Graduate Student Association.
The last event for the afternoon was Club Information Roundtables, where we got a chance to go to the kiosks of each department to understand their functions, membership T&Cs;, activities etc.

We assembled for Celebration Dinner at the Ross-Ade Stadium (Purdue Football stadium with 60,000 capacity) in the VIP Lounge. I was again lucky to sit with Tad and two Alumni, the speakers for the evening. I've been working in US for last 1.5 yrs, but never got a chance to experience the corporate gatherings like this. I feel privileged.

The event was well planned and well executed. Outstanding work by the Ad com and the GA students, with an excellent support from the current students.

We got to know about so many other things. So, please let me know if you have any specific questions.

Attended Krannert Weekend on 13th and 14th April. An awesome experience. One should really attend it. The visibility of Krannert is very very less to what it appears now and to what the programmes are offering. So, we can expect a steep increase in the rankings in the next couple of years now that Krannert has new Ad com and new Dean.

We didn't get a clear answer from the Ad com about the number of Indian students this year, but everyone kind of hinted that the overall strength for the batch would be close to 140. From the discussions with the current students and alum, I got to know that they are planning to reduce the count of non-Indians from Asian percentage and compensate that reduction with the number of Indian admits - ultimately to enhance the class profile. Not sure if it is true.

I will post in detail about my experience in some time. But, something important that we need to start working immediately would be on
