are you in Canada or India? I am also a Canadian PR holder but for last three years I am in Singapore. I have never been to Canada. I contacted RBC for loan, they told me that I am eligible for loan but I dont have any credit history in canada so I will need a co-signer. Getting co-signer from Canada is bit difficult for me.

So if you find a way to take loan from banks in Canada do let me know also. In the mean time I am getting approval from India and Singapore for loan. It will be better if I can get loan from Canada .

Yeah, I'd say you summed it up quite well. In my opinion, the big difference between the two is the 1 year vs. 2 year format (although I guess the Case Study vs. Integrative Thinking thing is important too). Like you mentioned it all seems to be based upon personal preference. It's funny, I did my undergrad in Vancouver and there were a ton of Rotman MBA's out there. I'm out in Calgary now and i've run into a really high proportion of Ivey MBA's here. Can't lose either way.

On another note, did you end up posting your interview experience somewhere in this thread? I've got mine next week and figure it's probably in my best interest to do some prep rather than winging it.

I agree that the line between Ivey/Rotmans is VERYYYY thin. I would prob. give Ivey the edge in regards to consulting and Rotmans the edge in finance. But as you mentioned, both top notch schools. Every year they are either 1st or 2nd in Canadian rankings...and you cannot go wrong with either. It is all all matter of preference.

I personally feel strongly that Ivey's career centre is very good at placing ppl without an internship, especially in the consulting field.

Ivey was the first established business school in Canada and has a long-standing network within the Canadian market. Rotman's brand has really started to come up ever since Roger Martin became the dean of that program. U of T is considered the best university in Canada and that's something that has played into Rotman's rise. I do agree that Ivey probably has the upper hand on Rotman for the time being, but that gap has narrowed significantly over the years. Rotman has started to build some really close ties with the financial sector in Toronto (hence why there's the notion out there that Rotman is a better option if you want to head into finance).

Regardless, you can't go wrong with either Ivey or Rotman. Bay St. is littered with alumni from those two schools.

While this is all true, Ivey is still more "recognized" in Canada and seen as being more prestigious than Rotmans. It also places more people and the avg. salary is higher. I have been living in Canada my whole life and Ivey/Rotmans are by far the 2 besr schools in Canada, but Ivey seems to slightly edge them out year after year.

guys...i m also waiting for a response..had my interview on october 5th.THe point is,even if you do get in..the problem would be to arrage the cost of the MBA,around 43 lakhs.At the end of the day,I feel that Ivey is the costliest MBA in canada,almost same as that of rotman...the tution fees for rotman is arounf 89 as against that of ivey ( 74 ).But again,you have 3 months internship at rotman and manys tudents get schlorships in the second year,bursalaries and as it is a 2 year mab,people work on campus too...however for ivey none of the above options are feasible...just my two cents....

well..I think i should elaborate...onw of the main points that a college boasts about is diversity of profile,because having diversity during the MBA class in itself means that the students graduating from the program are very much attuned to working in multicultural team,which is paramount for businesses today...so in a class of say 75,Ivey traditionally has got around 7/10 % Indians who r coming to Ivey on a students visa..dunno whether this includes landed immigrants...pls check the placement stats for tht....hope this helps...

i submitted my application in first week of september and got and interview invite on 28th i guess..but again that time was not the peak season..now a lot mabny applications are being sent..try and work on the other apps...take your mind off..as it is,theres nothing that you cud do now than waste precious time,which could be used to complete ur other apps..

coming to my question,incase you do get it,how do you plan to pay for the MBA ?

I got an intrw invite. My app got completed on Nov 2 and I got an email on
3 rd. Surprising. Anyway its a direct intrw in December, when Ivey is visiting bangalore. Any of you folks got similar invites? aslo can somebody direct me to some interview prep.

Well, I got a call from a London based number... so I'm just going to assume that was somebody from Ivey. I was stuck in a meeting though and missed it. Got an email a couple of minutes later.

For what it's worth, I've heard that while Ivey is really good about maintaining contact with students during the process.. that they are notoriously slow for processing applications.

I applied on October 3rd (although my second reference didn't show up until October 13th) and I just got an interview invite today. I wouldn't give up hope yet.

thanks man. when did you submit your application? I've read somewhere in this thread that someone had to wait for almost 35 days until he received an interview invite. I don't think it's a good idea to call them because it will irritate them. Better to show understanding than being a nag

Yeah i think i will feel more safer by doing an MBA from IVEy/Rotman/Queens rather than Schulich even if it is cheaper.
Cause MBA is an investment for life and the returns are definitely higher after graduating from a good college

If i had applied to Richard Ivey and got through, i would not worry as it is the premier business school in Canada (for consulting and general management) and consulting firms will come to recruit.

As for Schulich, its is much cheaper because you are more likely to get a 20 k scholarship out there on tuition plus staying in Toronto, there is more opportunity to work part time. Plus, throw in a paid internship. But there is a difference in class between an Ivey/Rotman MBA and a Schulich MBA. So, weigh your options.

That is true for every country. I mean the scene is same in US, europe , Canada, but i think getting an extension on visa/WP is easiest in Canada

and once u get PR in Canada, US is all open for u :)

Yea mba@10 , you got a point there. Schulich has a 20 month program including a 4 month optional summer internship/break.

I guess if you get into Ivey, it does not make much of a difference because, you will get a top job most likely and then the work permit can be extended, isn't it?

weel if you consider Ivey..the total expenses inclusing stay n all will come to $ 100000...you will get a 1 year Work permit upon completion of the program...incase of schulich...the tution is 60 + 40(living) = 100..so in this repect both are same...however because its a 2 yr mba,you get a 3 years open work permit upon completion fo the course...which is lucrative..in ivey it would be 1 year...which is a little less for getting your PR...

you can request queens to waive toefl if your undergrads was in english...thts what i am planning..also application is free there...so i would adise tht you apply to queens..its better placed than schulich in terms of reputation...

well see at ivey and queens both colleges have one year MBA so ROI is great

total cost will be arnd 90000 CAD but in Rotman it will be around 130,000 CAD

I am not sure abt schulich , but i think its also having 2 year MBA

My main reason of applying to Ivey was one year MBA and no requirement of TOEFL, queens requires toefl so i am heading to other colleges.

The primary reason I want to apply to canada is because of the liberal post MBA work permit policy there....so decided to apply to the top 4...

Schulich is obviously a couple of notches below Ivey/Rotman and queens but I wanted to keep it as a backup college incase I do not strike the other three...the fees at schulich is manageble,but m not syre ablut Ivey/Rotman/Queens...

Oh seems like you are only interested in doing MBA from CANADA
can you please share the reason for the same?

And I was also thinking of applying to Schulich, How is the reputation of the college? And placement scene for intl applicants?

Congrats man. You finally made it to Ivey (I am not sure if you remember me, but we ar ein touch via Facebook. I remember we had a looong talk while you were planning to apply to Ivey).

Alas, I shall not me among your fellow classmates. I couldn;t get the finances in place so had to ask them to cancel the offer as I couldn;t join them.

Let'see where my GMAT sojourn takes me from here..
