Thanks. They asked me to call by their names. I called them by names then onwards although in few occasions called Sir by mistake...will that count as negative against my candidature?

Calling by first name of the panelist can never go wrong. But if you didnt catch the names or you forgot the names it is safe call them Sir/Ma'am.

Here goes my interview debrief. I am sorry to post it little late. The questions might not be sequentially arranged.

Interview date : 18th Dec (received a call on 12th dec)
Venue : ISB, Hyderabad
Time slot : 11.30 AM

Experience : Reached the venie by 10 AM. Was waiting in the lobby. A few guys were already waiting. i joined in. After sometime sausi came in. We three (me , Saussi, another guy Vijay from IBM, Hyd) were casually talking.

I was called in around 10.30 AM to the 1st floor. Was given the essay-word : SATIRE. Completed the essay in 10-15 min. After that was waiting in the lobby and sifting thru magazine/newspaper pages..

I was schduled at 11.30 at panel 1. I was called in at around 11.50 AM by one of the panelists of panel 3.
(panel can change...)

Panelist 1 - P1 (rightmost)
Panelist 2 - P2 (centre)
Panelist 3 - P3 (left)

All of them were alumni.

I adressed them with good morning (marginal case as it was still few minutes to 12 !!)
First I adressed them with Sir. P2 asked to call by name ..NO SIR. They introduced.
P2: Dont worry if you forget our name also....you can point as YOU.

P2: Askked whether I am from Kolkata as my permanent address is kolkata. Told them I hail from kol but based out of B'lore. B'lore address keeps changing hence gave the kolkata address.
P2: Started a discussion on biriyani. Hyd-biriyani. Asked me good biriyani shop in bangi. Told. Asked where do I stay in banagi. Told. Finally he told that he stays very near to my place.

(I messed up i guess! I said "I see" shhepishly. I could have said "I LOOK FORWARD TO MEET YOU" )

P1: Asked about write i named in my prfile. Asked why one should read him. Told.
Asked whether any other favorite author. Told that no other favorite authors...but named a few books and their authors.)
P2: Asked on my job at previous company. Told. Further questions. I asked whether I can use a pen and a paper. They said yes or i can use board. I opted for the former.
P1: Why did I change company? Told them.
P3: What compnaies I am looking at after ISB. Told a namewith its service line and where I want to see myself i detail.
P2: On trekking (it was in my profile). Told him. Thru one experinece made them smile also.
He gave a situation.Told him. Seemed not to be satisfied. Again told him holding my position...+ve reactipn from him.
P3: On photography (although it was not highlighted in my profile). I told my views.
P1: Leadership challenges. Told him.Tried to misdirect saying.."ISNT IT BORING?" I tried to hold on to my position.
P3:Came back to photography. ..asked few more questions. Told them.
P2: Gave a situation. Told. Not happy. Told again. Kind of OK..not that satisfied.
P3: Again photography...gave examples. P2 crossed but finally opined point taken!

Asked whether I had any questions. I asked. They answered turn by turn. Any other questions? I said No, that will be all. thank you. Shook their hands and expressed my pleasure talking to them.
While going out I asked whether I should send the next one in...they said it's alright.

My gut-feeling: I feel except some work related discussion, otherwise it was generic. I think they were predecided.They did not grill much. At that very moment although I felt nice , now in retrospect , I feel that my chances are ngeative . Beacuse : I feel that I did not tackle photography part well enough and I was not asked enough question pn my profile , goal , MBA etc...no grilling kind of thing. No guesstimates, case study , puzzles.
Please feel free to let me know what you feel.

My Advice:
1. Know each every line of your essays and profile. Photography was insignificant but was asked some good number of questions.
2. They will make you feel at home. But i feel that is a ploy. With that they try to put forward conflicting view-point. Be smiling and at the same time be very careful. I think I messed up in a few occasions but covered it well also.

So thats all from me. Now the waiting begins. Although I am no authority , if need be feel free to PM me in case you have any questions.

Adding to it the Indian psychology, most of the buyers prefer to remain anonymous, they won't chose to buy on the campus.

One of the alums objected that i am not taking into account some odd 400 single guys who might be having gfs outside the campus, and hence my guess is lower than the expected sales.

i replied that we are also not accounting that ISB is not the only place to buy C****** and they may buy them from outside also. @ this point the ad com started laughing heavily and changed the subject :)...I guess that they were judging how i react in a critical situation and how smartly you answer.
As far as the topic goes, yes it was offbeat, however it might also judge the confidence and maturity you carry with you.
All in all, when i look back, i think it went well especially with the cross question :)

Submitted my profile on 22nd Nov and shortlisted for interview on 18th Dec 10:50 slot.

Panel consisted of two alums and an ad com...

First 10 mins of the interview revolved around my enfield expedition to Leh. Things i learnt from the experience and how i contributed to the group. (I had mentioned this trip in my achievements essay).

They slowly shifted to my job profile. I believe none of them was from shipping and explained them in detail. Usual questions followed like;
1) Please state one failure in professional life.
2) What are the hurdles that you face in your daily job.
3) Please mention your 3 strengths.
4) What have you learnt from your international experiences.

Few questions on pencil sketching.

They finished of with a guesstimate question. They were more interested in the approach than the result.
Case: If you are a sales manager for Kamasutra and incharge of sales of condoms at ISB, kindly predict the estimated sales at ISB in an year.
A few smiles and laughs were shared while solving the case.

And ended with standard - any questions for us?

Interview lasted for 35mins.

My advice : The panel was very thorough with my essays. Go through your essays and hobbies in depth. Identify points where you may be asked questions and prepare for them. They will ask questions indirectly on the points that you have tried to highlight in your essays.

I am actually a little surprised..
You cannot answer this question without using the S-word multiple times and making assumptions on the frequency for various kind of residents on the campus, and all this would really sound weird in such a set-up and you could end up offending someone's sensibilities.

I guess, it would have been real tough for you to balance this one!

Additionally , before leaving ,as a courtsey I asked wheher I should send the next candidate in? (because they are coming out every time and calling out name ) . Opninions are personal.
However, having said that , I believe their decision is not based on that. They should not feel that one is being excessive polite. It is best to be in one's own personna ( i strongly believe all the puys are polite enough to maintain basic courtsey).

well here is what wanted to do

1. Go in the room and touch their feet since one of the panelist was quiet old.

2. Gift them an iphone since its the most desired gadget out there

3. At the end of the interview, i wanted to hug them for the insightful discussion i had had,
on second thoughts shud have hugged harder - jaddu ki jhappi to make them select me :)

4. While leaving the room ask them if they wanted any refreshments, samosa, chaat, tea and all

I wanted to do all this but only realized that mine was a skype interview, so the only pleasantries i could offer was 'Thanks a lot for taking out time and giving me an opportunity to present my candidature for ISB class of 2013

I guess you can also read about the hobbies you listed in your app. Although, they are just hobbies but occasionally someone in the panel will ask you about it. And it will impress them if you can tell them a thing or two that they didn't know earlier.

As you would have already noticed from the various interview debriefs, your app is the single biggest component of the interview. Know everything about it in and out. Also, try and gather info on your domain and work area.
Other than that, there is no hard and fast rule for preps, be truthful, i think this is the best thing you can do to put forth your candidature. Also, be ready to face non-standard questions, they will surely come up.

Folks, for people who's application status still reads as 'submitted online', I spoke to the admissions office today and they said they have too many applications and they have extended the verification of apps period by another week.

But one observation : The early call-getters (I met twoof them - sousnnn and one guy called Vijay) are experienced. However , the number of years of experinece varied...myself 5+ , I met 4+ and 6+...
But I am not bale to patternize yet...

I have submitted on the 25th , got an email asking for some clarifications, sent back a response on 29th and the status was 'completed' by 30th. The status field has not changed since unfortunately.

I am very very very sure that regardless of calls they give, they are going to mark every app complete by the end of December. As for the interview calls, well, you cant't patternize yet. I met 1.5+. 5+ and 3.5+ with me. I am 6+

What is that? And why will you send a thank you note?
You could say thank you to the panel at the end of the i/v. I suppose it will seem a bit odd to send personal mails to them even if you get their email ids.
