Only a few days left ISB (2011 class) so thought all those preparing for the next year should get together to start our race to make it next year.
My Profile -
Work Exp - 3.5 yrs IT. A problem here is I don't have a exp certificate for about 10 months of exp as I left Infy and broke the 1 yr bond. GMAT - Yet to take. Acads - Very Good with a few awards at school and college level. ECs - Good. Have conducted and been a part of many events at school, college and work. Additional - Have been recognized a few times at work as well.
Please suggest me as to where I need to put up more effort to increase my chances of making it to ISB. Also what are the GMAT scores I should be aiming at?
Thanks in advance. I hope this thread will help everyone aiming for ISB and other schools as well.
am from Chennai. Waiting for a call. Will keep you guys posted if I do. Needless to say, you guys do the same too. Anyone wants to do a MOCK in chennai (After we get a call?)... would love if an ISB alum is in Chennai can guide us.

"Your application has been verified and found complete.
Further update on short-listing will be available approximately 5 to 7 days before your interview, if shortlisted, for the interview location you have chosen.
You may also login into your account to check the status."

So the wait is still on....am from Hyderabad, how many Hyderabad guys already had/recd their i/v calls......I have my IIML i/v on 20th....I wish I get my ISB I/v call soon (if shortlisted) so that I can be relaxed and be more optmistic for the IIM i/v...I feel it definitely helps to receive calls from 2-3 institutes...

I hope they should increase the share of energy sector to 10%...many nuclear deals happening these days It is just my wish with all due respect to other sectors.. You are right vivek, the competition is really getting tougher day by daysometimes I feel I should have applied in R1.

4% figure is for Energy industry professionals which mostly includes oil & gas folks. I guess u'd be the second person (after me) in the co2012 with EPC-power plants background. I wont mention it explicitly, but yes this would certainly work in ur favor as ur profile is different form the typical ISB applicant. But you have to present you case in the right manner. So more than having a different prfoile, its about presenting it differently /selling it to the adcom
btw, u have worked in which funtion of the EPC industry?

I asked two specific questions about Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurship Development - whether they are interested in whole together a new venture only or they also support a new diversified project in an existing business?
All the best this was helpful. I am a little unclear about the questions I would like to ask them, so could you tell us what did you ask them?

Does ISB send interview invites only on weekends or they call over on weekdays also?
I have to go to Singapore in 2 week for 4-5 days. My interview location is ISB. Incase i am called for an interview, isISB adcom open to a rescheduling of the interview. (As it is for the ISBhyderabad center, the interview window is pretty big so i hope they would be understanding enough :D)
Yes they are very open with this. Just keep a tab on your email etc. and let them know if the dates clash.

I would have never thought about putting my PC on mute during telephone call and maintaining eye contact with the webcam was another bit of info which can be quiet useful.. Can you suggest some typical questions which you might have prepared( apart from why MBA,Why from ISB, What After MBA).. One more thing, I have also heard that one should keep his/her answers precise and to the point in a telephonic interview..do you also recommend the same?? ATB Ash
@ash 16.
They give you around 30 seconds to think about it and then talk for a minute. They dont tell you about any structure that you need to follow. They just want you to talk about it. But it is a good idea to follow some general structure about the word to show a clarity of thought.
I kept talking till they stopped me but I think its a good idea to keep track of time when talking about your word. As far as content goes, its hard to prepare since they can ask you about anything. So just try to be aware about current issues
As far as rest of the interview goes, make sure you check you phone and skype connection and test it before the final interview. If possible test the entire setup with someone beforehand. The use the phone for audio and skype for video so make sure you turn your computer speakers off( or it will echo). Just try to maintain eye contact with the webcam and be confident throughout.

Great! I guess you stand a fair chance if you can tackle the reapplication part well! Would also be further useful if you can share your last experience with ISB App process including interview if you were through!
I am re-applying after 3 years, I think I am the only reapplicant here with that much of a gap, so I am expecting the panel to surely question the long gap :)
My only strength is my work experience because I have worked in IT Product for 6 years in a niche domain (wealth management) and have had considerable consulting experience since the space has evolved a lot. I also have international exposure concentrating on emerging markets of about 2.5 years.
My GMAT is pretty low : 690
My PAP (Past academic performance) is actually just about average 12th 72% and B.com 68%, I see academic performances here and feel like burying my head in the sand. So am not sure what are my chances but I won't go down without a fight :)

True, have experienced that myself. Spent ~4 years in a startup and the reactions have been, to say the least, pretty interesting But nothing beats the amount of learning and the experience. Would be great if you could share the questions set! PMing you.
Ok. Besides the fact that being an entrepreneur is fairly acceptable what is more important is the fact that failing at an idea is not being looked down up or is not being considered as the be all and end all of your career :)
Let me know if you need a ready set of questions I have compiled based on inputs of this thread I have added questions relating to my domain but I guess that should be interchangeable.

More than optimism, there's a big push needed to start working towards the interview. Now that I have got the application completion note, I will begin in the right earnest.
Yes, there's a lot of activity in the angel and early stage investment space. In India, there's a set of successful entrepreneurs who are now actively investing in other entrepreneurs. Founders of companies like Rediff, Naukri(InfoEdge), MakeMyTrip, OnMobile with great exits are backing startups now. There are also a lot of incubators in colleges and independently as as well. For the entrepreneurs, raising money at seed stage and getting the right mentoring are the pain points. Overall, lot of interesting developments happening in this space. Moreover, being an entrepreneur isn't looked down upon anymore and is fairly acceptable socially.

:) show some optimism here. Don't wait till the call actually comes in, because if he call comes in say 5 days in advance that may not be enough to find time and co-ordinate for mock interviews properly. Hey related to your domain, I recently read that in VC there is this angle financing coming up in big way, is it so?
App submitted on: 28-Nov-2010 Confirmation received on: 3-Dec-2010 Interview Call received on: 6-Dec-2010 Interview on: 12-Dec-2010 Interview Location: ISB
Panel-1: 3 members
As per the instruction, I reported 1 hour before my interview. There were two more applicants waiting for their interview. I noticed that there were approximately 12 interviews scheduled with panel-1 on that day (I had to sign a paper which had other names as well :)) and mine was second-last. Panel-2 was taking phone interviews. Another applicant told me that there was panel-3 until afternoon
I was given a word Goal and had to write 100 words. The panel was taking 10-15 minutes break after every interview (probably to write some comments about the previous interview or to go through the application of the next). They invited me in and introduced themselves. All of them were quite courteous and friendly. All three of them took turns to ask questions.
Some of the questions asked: 1. We started the discussion from my city and the developments going on in my state, etc. 2. This led to an informal discussion about Indian politics (I guess for ice-breaking) 3. Why did you move back to India? 4. India to USA to India how was the journey? What were the challenges you faced upon each move? 5. What is your role in your family business? 6. What sectors do you cater to? Who are your clients? 7. What are the 3 value-additions you have done so far to the company? (some related questions with each point) 8. Why MBA? 9. What kind of camera do you have? (I was a bit surprised I think they were trying to see if my hobby of Photography is not just to fill-up the Hobbies section but I know my camera and the lenses pretty well.. so I was happy to answer :)) 10. What is Scuba diving and how can one learn it? (again question on my hobby) 11. Couple of questions about a youth organization I have co-initiated what do we do, what impact have we made, etc. 12. Any questions for us? (I asked 2 questions)
Duration: 25-30 minutes
All in all, I felt that the interview was quite relaxed and conversational. I dont like/want to judge my own interview.. so I will just wait for the D-day. :lookround:
My 2 cents to the fellow applicants: I dont think the interviews have started in the full swing (I have heard typically there are multiple panels and atleast 10-15 people waiting in the lobby) so dont over-speculate you will get a call. :)
Be prepared about each section of your application. If you have mentioned superior analytical skills then expect case-study/guestimation questions if entrepreneurship is in your goals, have some fair idea about the segment you are talking about. Know your hobbies!
For me, a very long wait starts! All the best everyone!
All the best this was helpful. I am a little unclear about the questions I would like to ask them, so could you tell us what did you ask them?

Oh, good that you have some previous experience with ISB interviews. Maybe you can help some of us here!
I haven't started doing anything very specific for the interviews. I come from a startup background and looking to get into the venture capital domain. Though I'm fairly well aware of the developments in this space, doing some general reading up and trying to put together some numbers.
Hoping to do some mock interviews once (if at all!) the call actually comes in.
