Does anyone know anything about deferring admission at ISB? Has it been known to happen and if so, what sort of reasons are acceptable? Would appreciate any iputs.

I got accepted :)

Am happy about potentially taking the plunge. Am sad about having to potentially leave Bombay and go to Hyderabad :(

I really hope it's not all work and no play at ISB. I keep hearing conflicting opinions on this.

Anyway, whoever didn't make it - I was a re-applicant this time - and can honestly say that I've had an Amazing Crazy 2 years since last time - so I can tell from personal experience that lot's of good things are in store - make the most of life before the MBA.

For those who did make it - let's catch up - especially the guys from Bombay. Any plan happening on this front?

I am sorry to know about your ding @ ISB.. I never expected that :shocked:
So this shows that.. In contrary to the 'Image' that has been portrayed for ISB.. that GMAT is the 'Most Important' aspect of application.. I think that ISB is not just Crazy for a higher GMAT but a complete package. I've been noticing cases/trend.. viz. a 610 (Dentist) who made it & a 770 (your's) who could not. :wow:

Waisae.. Gaurav what are the other schools you have applied.. I mean the Back-up plan? Please try to work on your shortcomings.. with the feedback you'll get from ISB.

Thanks Saurabh. Actually I did not give structure answers in my interview. I mean I could have done better. Being from a competitive 'IIM' pool, I should have done this homework. This is one thing which I learned. And yes, I would await a feedback from ISB too. Hopefully, it will be a more positive story next year.

Other school i/vs are happening. I'd tell you over PM. Would be irrelevant here :)

I was worried about anything else to be done before the money transfer,..like we did for the interview where we clicked on a link to confirm our acceptance...

That's my impression as well.

Those who are already part of the FB group, can you check? This point would likely have been discussed and if not, the R1 Admits would surely know.

I won't be able to get on to that group for a couple more days due to risk of people (who haven't been informed) finding out !

Anything else to be done to confirm acceptance?

Congrats guys.. I was beginning to feel insecure that my belonging to IT background was the reason for my reject.. I think I screwed up my goals essay(I wrote management consulting) .. it is a different thing that I was keen to pursue management consulting because I am not much interested in IT as a career.. but now I feel I could have done far better if I had written my post MBA goals along the same lines as my IT experience - that way, atleast I could have sold my self better.. But, I am kinda lost now and pretty confused and I thnk I have made a big blunder.. Next time when I reapply, I will have more of IT experience(I have no other option except to continue working in the same sector)....I dont think I would make a strong candidate then by bragging about management consulting in my goals with so much experience in IT.. would it make sense at that time if I say that post MBA I want to get into IT strategy roles? saying such a thing would make me appear a whimsical person who doesn't know his priorities (last time this candidate says management consulting, this time he says IT strategy)..

Dear akun08 , from my personal experience I feel that the best strategy is to be true to yourself... If you are able to connect your current accomplishments with your goals , the battle is half won!...It all depends on how well you connect the dots...It makes much more sense if you say u want to get in to management consulting / Strategy roles in "IT domain". In that case you will be better equipped since u can use your current skills in the new profile as well. .....Again I say- This is my personal opinion . All the best for the journey ahead!!

I think from whatever has been posted, for IT profiles, some amount of management experience is expected!!

I got a reject too. 690 GMAT, 10+ years of experience in IT, working as a Project Manager for last couple of years, many awards at organization and group level, more than 4 years of people management experience, 3 years of international experience. But all did not help. So you never know what they need. But I'm sure they have picked the best.

All the rejects are good too and may be the best for some other places.

Congrats to people who are in and all the best wishes to people who did not make the cut this time.

Now this, to me, proves that even if GMAT is an important criteria for selection, other parts of the profile are equally important.

Congrats on your selection. You must have put your business journalist skills in writing the essays and must have done a stupendous job. I am an R1 admit. Hope to see you in April.

Those who have been dinged, you should ask for a feedback. I wasn't even called for an interview so I wrote to MR. Kannan. This was the feedback I received

"Your essay 1 did not show enough maturity. If you had, after three years of work experience, to go back to what you did in IIT to show your uniqueness that is not a sign of someone who has really grown professionally."

I really don't believe this. I had two examples to support my leadership abilities. One from College and one from professional life. I thought it is better to portray my leadership skill in more stages of my life, rather than just professional. But ISB Adcoms think otherwise. The same essays has got me interviews in other top B-Schools.
Anyways, my point is that if you are going to re-apply next year don't hesitate to take a feedback as ISB unlike other B-Schools is quite different in judging the potential of a candidate.
