Only a few days left ISB (2011 class) so thought all those preparing for the next year should get together to start our race to make it next year.
My Profile -
Work Exp - 3.5 yrs IT. A problem here is I don't have a exp certificate for about 10 months of exp as I left Infy and broke the 1 yr bond. GMAT - Yet to take. Acads - Very Good with a few awards at school and college level. ECs - Good. Have conducted and been a part of many events at school, college and work. Additional - Have been recognized a few times at work as well.
Please suggest me as to where I need to put up more effort to increase my chances of making it to ISB. Also what are the GMAT scores I should be aiming at?
Thanks in advance. I hope this thread will help everyone aiming for ISB and other schools as well.
I remember I did not work for quite sometime after I did not get selected last time. Hence ,selected or not selected ,its OK to stop working for a while
Huh..!!! Thank God you spoke up. This silence was scaring me...
I plan to go n stay with my parents for one month...
One more random question: If selected, is it okay if you stop working?

Some US B-schools, as an ice-breaker, ask students to make a presentation about what they did the few months before they joined the course, and some amazing things come out there. One went to Mongolia, another went to Everest Base camp (from US), and one took up a job as a bartender!

I disagree brother, I also had my i/v on 3rd Oct. But since then, I have had each and every word of my i/v echoed in my mind like countless times. Hence, it still feels very fresh to me Although the wait has been real tough and breathtaking...
seriously sums up the emotions!! and I had my interview way back on oct 3.. the waits endless..n the interview seems like a distant memory

Another random question, just to kill time while we wait for results.
You get your seat at ISB, what plans for life before classes begin?
Still have my commitments at my present org, if and when I am done with that, I am going on a road trip: Bangalore (Bandipur) -> Kanha -> Ranthambore -> Gir -> Bangalore
The only way to get through this time, is to fantasize about the awesome plans after it is over.

i think, probably, i am the last one to be interviewed for R1. my interview was postponed from 7th to 9th duration : 30 min type : telephonic/ conversation having deduced questioning and a very little cross questioning
1) speak for a minute on a phrase (a phrase from my application) 2) don't you think applying after 2 years would be more suitable. how do you justify that this year is the correct timing? (i've little above 3 yr. of exp till date) 3) give an instance where you have shown innovative capabilities. (i am working in R&D; division of my company, have few patents and have submitted technology based buisness ideas in my company. and a lot of innovation ideas in other areas of work such as a corporate social club activities) 4) What are your post mba goals? 5) what if ISB does not happen? how are you going to achieve your goals? 6) questions for us?
All the best to you buddy. The wait is shortest for you... Lucky you

How could it be that you are from IIT and score below 700 in GMAT ? Were you a quota candidate?
Man.. whatever you said was not correct. if you think you are the best judge in this world then go sit on the roof of mount everest and give your speculation about who can and who cannot climb it.
otherwise if this is a sadistic pleasure you are deriving then you are not welcome in the community.
finally don't try to be popular by being cynical. This is not an advice because, I firmly believe that you will take my words cynically.
trust me that you are not doing any good thing by putting your not-so-intellectual-comment.

A quick question. Do you think it'll be a good idea if I mention in the essay a fact (related to my work experience, can be categorized as an achievement), which better could have been mentioned in the reco by my current manager. The problem is that I'm not sure if she's mentioned that or not in the reco and she's already submitted it !

please go ahead and mention that fact. After all nobody knows u better than urself...so if u think something is important then mention it... One suggestion, once u are done with essay...share it with ur recommendar and ask her to jst read to check if the essay is in sync with what she has written. That will give u a fair idea....
I would say the 16 parameters are the overall parameters of which 25% are judged in interview ..that is 4 parameters ... and varun i think you have listed them all
I say this because i belive there is no way a person can be judged on 16 parameters in a 15 min interview :)

Arunsundar sir, mckinsey ka kaam hum se karva rahe aur wo bhi free mein
Well irrespective of the question i can think of these 4 parameters:
1. Articulation skills 2. Clarity of goals. 3. confidence. 4. under pressure performance...
puys can add on :)

@Arunsundar: Too many people force a question in there, just to sound intelligent. This is one of the few questions which actually had some value to you (and to us). Good on you sir.
thank you dheeraj.... it was a genuine question... ive lost so much hair "speculating" and waiting on PG!!!

Interesting incident from my interview experience at ISB ( I havent posted it yet since i had other b schools aps to finish till yesterday....and now it seems rather pointless) ....
When they asked me "any questions for us".... I said something to the extent of how several online forums are discussing the admissions process to death!!! I asked them how they managed to keep their interviews and selection process objective and not subjective....with so many different panels etc.
The alum went on to explain how McKinsey spent 2 years framing their selection process and structured certain standardised parameters (16 of them if i remember correctly) on which to assess candidates. All candidates are assessed on these parameters on a common scale. and to keep the overall selection process objective....the interview is only 25% of the entire selection criteria. the other 75% are broken into 3 other categories of acads, professional background / competency and application. At this point the adcom member retorted something about how he hopes i am not an avid contributor to pagalguy when the alum stepped in and said...pls. share this on pagalguy...its important to get the correct information out. so... there.... let the speculations continue....

hmm interesting point.... well i think most of the alum are just part of i/v panels, they evaluate ppl on some parameters and share the results with the adcom to make the final list. there may be a few alum who are involved in final evaluation of the candidates.... Btw with ankur suggesting that the results will be out on time and gng by the trend of ISB giving the results on friday, i guess the fate of many of us are already sealed....:)

I think it shouldnt be difficult for him to get a call 8.63 CGPA in electrical that too from IIT-Kgp is not an easy task (i have frnds at IIT kgp and i knw how difficult it is to score good marks in electrical engg). plus he has good amount of work-ex. I suggest he focus on his essays
Thank you guys for your valuable suggestions. Here is my course of action accordingly:-
1. Applying with my poor GMAT score :-(.
2. Nonetheless, I will retake GMAT which may be handy in case I get short-listed .
3. In the mean time, I will ping adcom on this.
4. I am not sure but I guess that even an admission with 640, though a distant reality, may take a toll on my placement.
Lessons that I have learnt: Don't be overconfident in life when everything is going perfect and don't leave something for the last moment though hard to avoid unless u r highly methodical

Done with my telephonic interview! Short and sweet (only 19 mins, scares me a bit though!!)...I was asked about the following: 1. My job profile in detail 2. One of the achievements from my recent job, few Qs on hobby and Switzerland 3. Questions on my future goals and aspirations 4. Post-ISB goals, any particular companies to work for. No cross-questioning and no offer to ask them a question! Overall went fine, good that wait is not gonna be very long.
Good Luck to all
Cheers! Sourabh

Do our interviewers also be part of the team that evaluates the final list? From Ankur's blog it seems so.
Or are they done once they complete the interview and mark their comments?
