Age : 30
At 9 years of workex, I don't think you can either worry about or take comfort in your acads. At this point, it's your workex and career progression that will matter more than all else
X (DPS RKP) : 91% (CBSE)
XII (DPS RKP) : 94% (CBSE commerce)
BCom (SRCC) : University 3rd
Cleared CA in 2003 (2nd attempt)& CFA in 2007 (1st attempt)
GMAT : 730 (6)
Extra curricular : Strong
1) Represented Delhi University in Several Debates, Won
at NLS, IIT-d and FMS
This happened really a long time ago. What are your extra-work activities now? Resting on extra-currics of 9 years ago is quite a stretch. Are you involved in the community? Something relevant and recent is what they'd like to see - not a song of past glory...
2) Was part of a band and performed several times in the
GIR - Great Indian Rock Show
Thats pretty impressive! Again - is this recent?
Exp :
Working with a top multinantional IT company as Manager-Finance.
I have around 9 years of experience in Corporate Finance.
What kind of Corporate Finance? Fund-Raising / Structuring /etc? A lot of people attempt to pass off accounting / payroll / costing as Finance. On the corporate side, its only the CFO and his second-in-command who's the truly finance person, everyone else is just financial control.
Also, has your career seen promotions every 2-3 years? At 9 years there will be even more pressure on you to have shown rapid growth - unless you're in a nationalised bank / PSU.
Reason For MBA
I am Looking to getting into consulting companies at a Senior Consultant/ Principal consultant role and don't want to do an MBA for any other reason
Manager, Corp side, Corp Fin -> Senior Consultant / Principal? On the extremely rare chance that I might be wrong, I think you're gonna require much more than the ISB and your current workex to make it. What I think is that you require a strong reality check. Look at what placements are REALLY like all around the world - not in the rubbish that ET normally publishes about "record" placements.
Queries
1) Is my profile good enough for ISB or is there something I must
improve/add ?
You sound like you might be. Your goals, on the other hand, are very audacious. If you dare mention something like this in an essay, you're looking at an outright ding.
2) Do consulting companies like Mckinsey, BCG, Delliot, KPMG and E&Y; hire ISB participants from campus ? Which other companies come ? And
what are the exact roles that they offer ?
Yes, they do. They hire at Associate levels. If you're thinking about joining at Principal level (LOL), an MBA is not the program for you. (I don't know what is!)
3) Can a guy like me with 9+ years of exp make it to such companies ?
If you were already in the school - with your qualifications etc - you'd need to make the deans list.
4) If i get through this program will my dream of joining a top-consulting
firm come true?
You're a second-attempt CA. Remember, for M/B/B, you'd need to make the deans list. You'd be competing against the brightest minds from the IITs and a whole plethora of brilliant and accomplished MBA candidates - would you make it? That's a question that can be answered by yourself using only a reality check
I need the answers to these questions to make a choice on whether to apply or not. In case ISB is not the right school for me (or versa visa), I won't waste time applying.
The ISB education will not make you a Principal at an M/B/B during placements... if that is your only ambition, as you say, you would be well-advised that even HBS is unable to put a career jumper at something like a Principal!!
