Dude what is a very good profile?
I think we should use this forum to try to find this answer. We already applied to R2 and got dinged with(out) ping.....
Ah.. a good question there rahul. Let me corect myself then. Good gmat, good experiece (quality of work ex), EC's, Good Essays, good application results into a good profile.
Delving a little deeper
Gmat - there has been innumerous discussion on this... in short a higher Gmat score always the better. But I think 700 is good enough if you have a higher work ex say in the range of 5+.. else I think you gotta score higher..
I know many will disagree with me on this, but this is my take.
Experience - taking the most common industry IT.. Intl exp is very common here basically client interaction. And you will find many ppl in the race with really high exp.. 5-8yrs from IT.. and very competitive gmat scores. Again the quality matters here.. if you have 5-8 years of Work ex then what exactly have done here.. you will need to show some leaderships skills etc. So inshort QUALITY matters a lot.
Good essays - nothing much to say here... to the point and well articulatd essays which ansers the given question in the best possible manner.
ECs.. Have a look at the admissions director's blog. Looks like everyone had done some kind of Social Work but could not justify it in their interviews.. But I think here even genuine guys who have actually worked for the sake of working rather than to get into ISB might have lost out bcoz they couldnt justify well enough in the short duration of the interview, which generally lasts around 15-25mins.
just my opionion ... you are welcum to agree or disagree with me here..
hope this is of some help to give the general idea.. what constitutes a good profile.. but in the end for CO2011 I have seen just amazing profiles rejected without interviews.. so in the end it boils down to the ISB's magic formula for shortlisting....

And trust me it can sometimes drive you absolute nuts

if you are at the recieving end.
