Hello & thanks for this proactive initiative. I would like to introduce myself as an engineer with a post grad degree in product design from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. I have a total of 9 years of professional experience working as a self employed consultant in new product development and strategic design. I hold a couple of design patents and have handled projects for Eureka Forbes, WWF, Whirlpool, ONGC amongst many others. I have also initiated global linkups in healthcare design with academics from Johns Hopkins, Caltech, etc to foster innovative product development in healthcare for indian markets.

I am looking for a slot at the IIM in 2013 (missed this deadline) as I believe that it would take me to a bigger orbit of professional consulting. I see a further career in business consulting especially in companies / sectors that foster innovation. I plan to take the GMAT in first week on November 2011. I would love to get a feedback on the possibilities with this professional & educational background. Thanks.

Would appreciate if a few queries can be addressed which will assist me in identifying my next steps from an MBA Perspective

Background:
Total Work Ex as of March 2011 - 92 months ( inclusive of 19 months in an entreprenuerial venture)
Education - BE and MBA ( 2004 passout) ( 2 yr Regular from MDI)
Sectors worked in - IT ( Oracle and CEAI) , Exports ( Entreprenuership Venture) , Corporate Trainings ( Current Role)
In all sectors have mainly been handling the BD and Sales Role at various managerial positions

I am thinking of applying for the 2012-13 batch of IIMB EPGP.

Objective for applying: To have a platform to assist in switching sectors from BD and Sales to more of Consulting ( my reading of myself of the sector which would probably suit my career) ( As in India, offers are there from similar sectors and industries for Sales and BD only)

Questions:
1) Does the current batch/prior batch have prior MBA students on rolls
2) Does having a prior MBA from an good institute reduce the chances of admission at IIMB 1 yr course
3) What would be the average range of the GMAT Scores of successful Participants
4) From where can I get a list of companies that are a part of recruitment for 2010-11.

Would appreciate if I can get a revert on the same.

1. I dont think there are any MBAs in the current batch.
2. If you can justify the need for a second MBA I see no reason why you cant get in. I do know that IIM-A and IIM-C do have people who already have done a 2 yr MBA prior to joining PGPX and PGPEX respectively.
3. GMAT score average is around 710
4. This will be available only in a few months' time.

The learning, starts not by joining an institute but from the application process itself, where you dvelve deep into your own strengths and weaknesses. Suggest you go thru a few pg threads for good schools, you will pick up many things.

Job profile for what you have asked - perhaps something on BA side, Senior BA etc. If you are doing MBA, you should also look at other platforms, outside of IT. This will be your only chance at that, and there is a lot lot more out there besides IT. Just a thought though!!!

There are 3-4 major factors one has to work on:
1. Acads- ur ACADS are average- so ul be better off having a higher GMAT score > 700

2. Work experience - U ve been working in industry which is not related to ur grad qualification, so need to prepare well on those areas for any MBA college interview

3. Your overall personality- This is very individualistic and comes accross very apparently in any selection process.

Chances - Can't commment without GMAT and more details abt ur personality. But since it is still time for next years apps, if u strt early ul be in a good position. Holds for all who want to strt early

you can certainly meet us sometime later, we would be starting our journey soon. But it depends upon you, whether u wanna go for a class or can manage learning alone. OG is good enough to make it if u are dedicated enough.

I am assuming you asked about GMAT preps

1. Classroom is better as it gives a competitive feel, but it finally depends upon how motivated you can be. There is nothing special tht can be taught in the class apart from stress busting techniques.

ask if any specific qs in this regard

2. We wd be in Bangalore post 6th, but donno about the time availability.
3. Refer only the OG for each topic. Dont waste your time with other material.
4. 3-4 hr/day is enough for 3 months and 5-6 hrs in the last 15 days

Did any one between WL 9 and WL 12 get a regret letter from IIMB.

I called up epgp office and they said that admissions for this year has been closed and waiting list till 8 has been cleared.

I was WL 10 and have not received any regret letter from IIMB. Was wondering if they have kept some of WL's as buffer for later while closing the admission.

I am an aspirant of the EPGP programme in IIMB . I am sure the information does exist in the institute's website but I could not find how many recommendation letter(s) would be required for gaining an admission to IIMB . Kindly let me know the number of the recommendation letter(s) .

You need to provide 2 recommendations/references. This needs to be filled online. It is highly preferred that the recommenders be previous or current manager.

I am yet to receive regret letter. Has all waitlists received it? I am waitlisted @ 12. I called up adcom to check and they told "Admission process is closed for this year and regret letters are sent".

Dear All - it is true..we have till Feb 15th to withdraw. IIMB has provided that option. But then, it would have to be a really fabulous school for someone to choose that over IIMB - the likes of the Ivy Leagues in Amrika or closer home, perhaps for some, ISB which declares its round 2 results during that time.

Those who are wait listed or got regret letters, can hang in there, maybe if you are enterprising enough to show interest then they may choose you over someone with a better waitlist num (not much point in making this info public though!!!).. can you generally share your profiles please? Just would like to know what IIMB missed out on. I have an admit.. mine is 710, and I have about 8 years in a product firm in banking, and I also ventured into entrepeneurship in between. I do have quite a bit of extra curric stuff as well in my kitty.

To those who got, anyone from Pune or Mumbai? We can think of some get together over drinks/beer/cocktails etc.. we have a year ahead. Let's start early on?? Cheers.

Me too, regret letter. Waitlisted at 16. Funny thing, since i read somewhere that admitted candidates can withdraw their admissions and only Rs 10,000 is deducted....which ideally means that some WL candidates could be made an offer.

Dunno what to make of it.
