Any body planning on taking GMAT before may 12,???(The exam format is changing starting june 12.)

Anyways apart from my worries it will be gratefull if guidence is provided to prepare for a good GMAT score first.

Both the websites pagalguy.com and beatthegmat.com can provide you good insights into gmat. Pagalguy has experience of folks based in India mostly while beatthegmat has details of international candidates. I have shared my experience at From 610 to 760(q49,v44,5.5) - still can't believe it!

I am working with a leading software firm, having 7 yrs of exp with 9 mnths Intl. exposure. I have done technical certification as well. My acads are average, holding bachelors degree in Computer science. But I am doing fairly well in my organization have won accloades and recognizations in organization. Demonstrated leadership quality's by handling many projects & team of peoples.

I am aiming for a good GMAT score 700+ & 2014 IIM Batch but still I worry whether I stand any chance of admission to IIM as my X & XII are not so good.

Anyways apart from my worries it will be gratefull if guidence is provided to prepare for a good GMAT score first.

The IIMA app doesnt require you to mention X or XII results. focus on GMAT and other strong points of your profile.

Thanks for the quick reply. Well there are lot of reasons. The kind of work I'm doing is not the latest tech work and I want to work on something challenging. Also I have ard 10 Yrs exp want to skip or jump couple of roles quickly so I was thinking IIMA - PGPX would help me. Is it the right course to be say for eg a product manager in Microsoft or Oracle or Google for that matter? (The companies are just an example of what I am aming after my PGPX and please don't mistake that I am trying to get into one of these companies after PGPX)

A "Product Manager" role is not as much a technical role.It requires domain expertise of the business function to which a product is catering , and the Job includes (not limited to ) constantly evolving the product so that it serves its customer/business area better and is more "sellable".If you enjoy technical roles you are better off joining a product startup(more money as well):)

I think the basic question that you seek an answer to is if you need to go for MBA and need to reach out to folks on that forum. Do you have a masters in engineering? Personally, going back into technical work after MBA defeats the purpose of MBA for me. If you desire to go for MBA, then IIMA credentials will not let you down.

Not sure about offers for technical roles at IIMA... but...
If you are already doing what you want to be doing post-MBA then why do want to do the MBA? I don't suggest a residential program in this case.

I did not mail to adcom for my AWA score as I got the score report on 13th Aug 2011 ( AWA score =5.0). Also IIM A had indicated that one can take the GMAT on 10th and fill the application on same day and did not indicate to send the score later on in mail.
Do u think that i went wrong by not sending the AWA score when i got it on 13th ?

For next year app. is 680 ok or should i plan for taking Gmat again? cos my work schedule is hectic and i may land up in a low gmat.

My GMAT AWA score was unavailable at the time of application. I had put in 5.0 as a conservative score but managed to get more. Noticed that IIMA had updated the score to 5.5 in the online app for me down the line when they got Official Score Report. I did not notify IIMA through email. So this is not a factor in case you couldn't make it.

GMAT of 680 is the minimum they went for this year, so unless you are Senior Executive or an IIT topper or have helped Red Cross in Haiti or captain your county's soccer team you have a slim chance. Some folks may disagree but that's how I feel about 680 GMAT. 690 is the "tipping point" and you are just below it.

I would l introduce myself as an Avg IT male, working as a project lead in US for an mid sized indian s/w consulting firm for a fortune 500 client.I have had decent Acads and hold a bachlores degree in Marine engg. from a renowned college . I have around 9 yrs to total exp out of which 3 is international (8 in IT and 1 in shipping).
What are my chances if I can secure around 700 in GMAT? And since I am currently abroad,can I face challenges in ,say ,attending interviews (such as conflicting dates etc)?

i am sure IIMA would have seen your official GMAT score and AWA score, but if i were you i would have still sent the email. Nevertheless, its history, lets focus on next year app.

re: retake of GMAT, my personal suggestion would be to retake since you have almost 9 months in hand. if your schedule doesnt allow then its different question but just to make sure that you dont leave any stone unturned. good luck.

Shrisachin, i dont think IIMA has any defined GMAT cut off, even if there was one, i dont believe its 680 because there were people with that score who got interview invite.

i checked the current admit details on the google group and out of 65 people who have put in data we have people from armed forces but none from Govt/PSU background. Not sure about other 20 admits.

Looking at your details, you surely have very strong profile...no one know what admissions committee looks for but i suggest you read previous years threads to get finer details about writing your app. There are very interesting posts by X5 and X6 admits on what to highlight in the application.

if you decide to re-apply for 2013 then its worth reading those threads.

re: your AWA mistake , IIMA checks official GMAT score so they would have seen it there. i hope you did send email to admissions office higlighting the mistake.

Work ex - 8 years into SAP consulting( from Tier one companies ) ; Double certified in SAP with a 9L package.Working with IBM for 5 years now.Currently serving as Delivery Manager.ITIL certfied now.

Extremely active since school.

EC's - Have rapped in 2 albums , ( one movie and one album ).Numerous certificates in games and every other activity i could lay my hands on.
Have hosted many shows as a MC.learnt French for 4 years.( although forgotten a lot by now.

Intl Work exp - 2+ years in Denmark and Manila.



Worked with NGO's in the past to raise fund for blind children( in school and have a certificate for that as well ), have been assosiated with an NGO to teach children who cant afford much.

leejoule, if you look PGPX admits for various years have average of between 710 to 720 every year, so target that score but off course we all know that GMAT is not the only factor, admission office looks at the whole application, which has many other aspects.

1. you can find many resources on the internet for preparing for GMAT, official guides from GMAC shall be your starting point, please write back if you need to talk more about that

2. deferral means you get admit in year "n" but due to some reasons you decide to join the "n+1" batch. it requries approval from IIMA admissions office, once granted you can defer your admit.

circuit76, not sure what you call a bad score. general belief is that a score of 680+ is a "hidden" must to get interview call....off course other profile factors play a major role...but in our current admit batch, we dont see many people with a very low gmat score. number of attempts doesnt matter, may be its worth giving one more try.

8 yrs work ex (ITservcies / top I bank Captive)--engineering graduate--decent acads--GMAT 720 / 2.0.
Please suggest if it is wishful thinking on my part to even think of applying for the IIM A PGPX program with such a low AWA score in the GMAT.

Check out the IIMA average student profile. Personally i feel that IIMA compares you against that profile. So in case you dont match on one of the parameters, then they expect you to make up in the other one. For example, if you have less international exp, then probably they expect you score better in some other parameter such as GMAT score, or a girl student, or a non IT guy, or something else.

at the bottomline, either you should have a USP ( unique selling point) that will show you aside from the lot. Or you should exactly fit the average profile.

Based on my experience with IIMA and IIMC.

for all 2014 aspirants- Few details regarding app process of 2013,

GMAT cut off score- 690. For 2014 expect it to be in the same or higher range.
No of applications- Approx 960
Interview call- Approx 250
So application to selection ratio is in range 1:12
Interview to selection is in range 1:3

hi . i am an admit to pgpx 7 class of 2013. would definitely assist you guys in case you have any queries. however a word of caution please dont ask to evaluate your profile as i am not competent enough to do that, secondly there is no point of getting it evaluated as our evaluation has no bearing on your chances of making it or missing it.
also in case you guys wish to compare then there is a spread sheet somewhere which has the details of guys who have made it to pgpx 7( you may get in the thread of class of 2013).

I am working as Legal Counsel for Reserve Bank of India. I am having around ten years experience in the field of law. My experience spans from being a practising advocate in High Court to being in academics (Asst Prof in National Law School) and finally as Legal Counsel at RBI doing a regulatory job.
I am aspiring for doing an MBA (IIMA PGPX) so that I can break into General Management and Strategic roles in MNC banks. In this connection I would like to know:
1) How many legal background students have passed out from PGPX (IIMA) and what roles/jobs post qualification have been offered to them.
2) Whether in Indian circumstances a lawyer with 10 yrs experience and 33 yrs of age can start a managerial career and achieve success. JD/MBA is a successful programme in US, but in India whether doing MBA (IIMA -Pgpx) after 10 years experience of law, is it advisable.

3) Whether any alumni or current student of IIMA - PGPX is a lawyer or having legal background.
