Hi Everybody,

I got an offer from IIM-C in second round.

Now I am even more confused

Sometimes choices put you in more dilemma.

Guys....Any idea when the waitlist will be moved ? I mean when will the second list of admits be announced. IIMB being little late in the first list as compared to IIMC has already announced and moved with the second list i.e. wait list has been operationalized.

The housing bubble burst bringing down many so called hallowed financial institutions with it but myth of MBA continues. Let us talk about first one year full time executive MBAs. They are turning into nightmarish exp for most but people don’t have intellectual honesty to admit it. That is understandable as who would want to portray that whatever investment they have made has made no difference to their careers. Rather for most it has made them worse off than candidates who didnot fall into trap of transformation, MBAs are supposed to bring. As those folks saved at least 35 to 60 lacs. Having witnessed that most of the students getting into same role with similar salary they were drawing prior to the course was truly a revelation. The opportunity cost of these courses is close approx 35-60 lacs ( Tuition fee 15-20 lac+ interest of 6-10 lacs, foregone salary of one year, living expenses of close to 3-4 lacs) . The harsh reality is that people struggle to return to their organisations as well if positions are filled.As we progress in our career, the only thing that matters is relevant experience and domain knowledge . Market believes competencies can only be acquired by performing that role for min 3-4 years . Studying a few modules of finance, strategy , marketing or operations may provide some theoretical knowledge but it doesn’t add much value at least as far as employability in a different role is considered. 70% of folks in these courses are from IT most of the time whose expertise is in Delivery which is already in excess in market. Even for other roles in IT or Manufacturing , it is turning into graveard. IT folks are driving these courses in their misplaced zeal to change their career as growth has subsided It changes almost invariably for worse. Almost all from PSU and Govt have been returning continously to the parent orgainsation after the course.Very few share the true picture and worse when at least some do, people dont believe it. we have to pass this message to all experienced colleagues if they are thinking that one year MBA is the path to glory.
