as for selection i have got the confirmation email for msc in computer engineering from University of Duisburg-Essen. I will post in more after i get the confirmation letter. I do not have german language skills so i will be doing the german course at university only.

Ah norms vary from univ. to univ. in germany whether u need 15 or 16 years education plus some univ. do not even ask for either toefl or gre or gmat

but some ask for toefl plus gre

some ask for ielts or toefl plus gre

some only ask for ielts or toefl

All permutations and combinations exist

Regarding ur doubts on german univ. recognition they r world class and are accepted everywhere

Starting Jan 2005 visa regulations are relaxed... if u study for 2 years master course u get 3 year visa.

Problem is if u r planning to study in germany pick up german fast either from goethe institute at max muller bhavan (it is a good one)
Course starts from Jan 2005

Sweden is advantageous b'coz u dunn need to pick up swedish coz swedes are good at english like we r at hindi and english ...

Plus when u stay at sweden for more than 3 months then u get automatically a residence visa so need for work permit (But it is other matter that jobs r rare in sweden)

Infact u can say no chances after course to work in sweden and do not think of bearing ur living expenses by part time job.

Sweden is giving u free education think as if u r going there for studying .. do not bother about jobs once u pursuing ur course studies... b'coz it will spoil ur studies

and yeah since u r from delhi.... i would suggest u to make a visit to daad's office in delhi

Well all those who are thinking that Germany is charging for MBA is a misconception that is it.

The material which i have posted via yahoo group is mainly about Indians aspiring for Germany

now a few points which dunn work in favor of Germany are that u really have to learn German inorder to get a plum job and Sriyukta as far as your concern regarding jobs are concerned i feel in the it all comes down on an individuals abilities to get a job. Without hard work u really cannot make a name for your self.

And this question regarding fees i dunno why this is being posted up i will repeat in 85% colleges fees are free i say again they are free exceptions are Sttugart Institute of Management Technology.

One Fact which is true is that IT is in Boom in Germany but on the same hand if an individual is willing to struggle then jobs are hardly a worry

Admissions in Germany are done 2 times in an year in April/October but mostly colleges go in for October intake.

which is in all the major cities in Delhi.

I have asked some guys who have gone in for graduate studies all are of the view that hard work has to be done yourself.

Fact is it is in the mindset of Indian Students that Foreign Studies are Expensive and not affordable.

Even i am in the stage of shortlisting some colleges and cannot afford expensive stuff.

Further more for Visa u need to show maximum 3.5 lacs that is it .

Hey, MBA is not free in Germany. It is cheap though (nothing when compared to US univs). Masters in Industrial Mgmt is free.

once upon a time , i too wanted to go to Germany for an MBA but as u say, the rules weren't clear then, and with the lack of counselors , i cudnt get proper guidance. However, one point that i wud like to bring up... how viable is an MBA from Germany , i mean the job prospects , as far as my enquiries revealed , a German MBA doesnt really ring bells here in India, and for working in Germany , its really tough finding a job, wat with all the 'anti foreigner feeling' prevelant there !!

I wud suggest u to find more abt the job scenario , that was the only factor that deterred me , otherwise being a PG scholar in German , and given the cost effective education.. it was a great choice !! hope u reach a more positive conclusion..than i did .

Hye these are the nes immigration laws in Germany w.e.f 1Jan 2005 and read those lines in Bold properly..

I am sorry i am using a sepatae post for this b'coz i believe mentioning these in that post would have made it confusing.


The German government and Opposition have finally come
to terms on a new flexible and effective immigration
law that would allow highly skilled labour into the
country unlike the terms offered under either the
current immigration or the Green Card scheme offered
to foreigners four years ago.


After 4 years of negotiating the terms and conditions
with opposition parties the German government has
finally won support for its final draft version of
immigration laws and is happy about the proposed
changes.

The new immigration law is the outcome of the current
state of the German economy and its demographic
situation. Currently, Germany has 82 million people of
whom there are approximately 7 million foreigners and
about 4 million unemployed people. This new
immigration law will be a major attempt on the part of
the German government to allow a major influx of
foreign employees since it closed it doors to guest
workers from Turkey in 1970.

Demographers have been wary with reference to the
rapidly aging population and falling birth rates that
could at some time in the future trigger a major
crisis in the country's overstressed pension and
welfare systems.
According to an article in Time:

Without an annual influx of at least 230,000 people,
Germany's population of 83 million will shrink to 51
million in 2050 and 24 million in 2100, according to
Reiner Klingholz, director of the Berlin Institute for
World Population and Global Development.


With the implementation of the new law the German
government is expecting an influx of approximately
200,000 people a year as opposed to the Green Card
scheme which had a total of 16,500 participants over a
period of 4 years.

Taking everything into consideration, especially the
fact that all the political parties have agreed to
this change, the new immigration law still has to be
approved by the lower and upper houses of parliament,
respectively, on 2 and 9 July, 2004. If approved, it
shall come into effect from the January 1, 2005.

The new immigration law will allow for the following:

Reducing the number of different residency permit
titles from five to two: the limited resident permit
befristete Aufenthaltserlaubnis and an unlimited
resident permit unbefristete
Niederlassungserlaubnis. The new laws regulating
foreigners would be more focused on what
qualifications the foreigners have to offer.

Highly qualified people would be able to receive an
unlimited residency permit for themselves and their
families to either set up their own business (with a
minimum investment of 1 million Euros and offer
employment to ten people) or be employed in Germany
from the very onset of their relocation to Germany
instead of going through a very tedious process
involving two to three different residency permits.
This would also allow highly qualified people to come
to Germany without having a job based on their
specialization and the requirements.

Foreign students who are completing their education
in Germany will be allowed to live in Germany for a
period of 1 year after completion to search for jobs.
The concept of a one-stop government is to be
followed whereby the foreigners office and the
employment office will decide via an internal process
to offer one of the two residency permits instead of
applicants having to go to one office after another
for a residence permit and a work permit.

Some of the old laws shall be maintained for example
people with not enough qualifications shall not be
permitted to enter the country or the rule of priority
which states that all jobs have to be offered to
German first then Europeans shall remain in force
In addition, the law also provides for language and
integration courses to help foreigners integrate into
German society. The integration courses shall be paid
for by the German government. These costs have been
estimated at approximately 188 million Euros for all
new immigrants and approximately 76 million Euros for
the existing 70 to 80 thousand foreigners in Germany
who need to be integrated.
The new immigration laws also allow for immigration
under other circumstances like humanitarian grounds,
asylum seekers etc. It has special provisions that
cover national security and allow for deportation of
immigrants under certain conditions.

Once the law is passed it still has to be seen if this
is what can kick start the largest economy in the
European Union

ya i have feedbacks and believe me all of them are positive.. infact my engg. batch classmate is there in germany also.... all of them are really in favor of germany ..

Best thing is these institutions of higher education in germany do not want money they want standard quality these are things that is why they are not having any tuition fees.. IN my opinion except USA Germany is the place to be for higher studies now that new Visa rules will come into effect after big debates b/w opposition and ruling party... and according to new visa rules foreigners are allowed to stay back in germany for one year for finding a job...

No standard of educ. is world class and one more thing as far as language is concerned Germany calls international students for masters programs only reason is that only they are offered in English..

I know of a couple of ppl who went to germany...from wot i have heard it was very good before.The study was in English and also they even made provisions to provide the students with indian food.But of late,I have heard that its not the same anymore...
