If you are dead sure you want to go in for an MBA this year, dont bother yourself with the US offer...on the other hand, the US experience might well add some value to your profile and you could apply possibly next year or so. Its the timing.

As of right now, I have given some b-school interviews, am awaiting results and have nothing concrete on my hands yet. Just giving up the US opportunity at this point is a bit tough given that the profile offered to me is tempting...

Here is the deal - Its pretty easy applying for Canadian Visa from US. It usually takes less than 3 hours and usually there is no interview as such if you have all your documents in hand. In fact you need not even go to the consulate. However I am not sure if you have to stay in US for a minimum time to apply the Canadian Visa. I was in California for 3 years prior to applying. The legal way to procure a Canadian Visa is to always apply in your native country. I would check the Canadian US Consulate website for more details. To the best of my knowledge you should not have an issue applying for Student permit, however please cross verify.

Vivek, Cheryly is the Director of Admissions. I won't be surprised if she is interviewing candidates but passing on the file to Associate Director's like Claire for a through review. Its a perfectly acceptable scenario. I would not read much into all this. Just keep your fingers crossed and wait for the good news.

i'm having the same problem..my referees are not receiving the email....i've even posted this problem on their facebook admissions page...i sent in my application on the 27th of dec for the part time evening program at rotman....

Thanks Spartan and Ravshri..I did ask my recommenders to check their junk/spam mails..they hadn't recieved the mail..I have tried resending the invite 2-3 times..I guess the only option left is to mail the adcom about the situation..

My understanding is that the reco mails are sent out by the system and not the admissions staff. Try logging in and see if there is an option to resend the reco mails. If not, the only option is to drop them a mail..

RBC would not pay the entire 40K in the first year rather they woukd pay 20k each year and you can tell the Indian bank that you had paid that amount with your own savings. I guess that is how it works.

I am not sure that's the way how it works. None of the banks will pay the money to you directly, they always pay the school tuition. If your first year fee's is paid by 40 K CAD from RBC then Indian banks will ask how you funded 1st year fee before offering to the pay the 2nd year fee. These are my understanding. I might be completely off the track here. Even I am new to all this. I would be meeting the RBC folks and SBI Canada folks personally in the first week of Jan to get these facts right. Will keep you all posted.

@naveen09: As per Teresa from RBC, if you have any other loan in your name and especially an education loan then your loan application for 40000 CDN would be rejected by RBC. So, the money in your account should either be a gift from your parents or relatives or your own.

Thanks for the info. Just a follow up question: If at the time of RBC loan processing I dont have any other loan and I have rest of the funds, I am assuming that I will get a loan approval. However can we take an 'education' loan later if required without bothering RBC at all?

For the benefit of fellow puys seeking a Canadian loan of 40,000 for internationals...

I talked to Teresa today of the Rotman Loan committe and learnt a couple of things -->

1. The repayment period is 10-15 years and interest rate is in the range of 3 % - 6 %. Also the university pays your interest while you are in college which is around 3%.
2. You shouldn't have any other loan otherwise you won't be able to get the Canadian loan.
3. The loan process can start as early as January. It can be used to show as a souce of funding during the visa process but the loan amount will only be disbursed towards the tuition to the university directly.
4. You should be able to show liquid assets equal to the cost of attendance minus 40000 CAD in order to get the loan.

And one more thing...

The initial deposit of 3000 CAD can also be deposited by calling Lynda Paterson on phone and giving her your credit card details. You get a confirmation email right after that.

I have already sent 3000 CAD draft to U of T . You have two options first is to call them up and pay it through credit card for that you would be charged 2.75% extra .

Second is you can get a DD and sent it through DHL . DHL will charge you Rs 1000 for courier.

You need to send a DD of 100CAD as an application fees for the grad house . Once you get the room you have to pay another 400CAD as your conformation . This will be deducted from your rent. Rent for single room is around 800CAD subjected to increase. I would suggest you wait till you get the admission packet and that will answer a lot of your queries.
