limitlesssky posted 08:21 PM, 24 May '06 AVN, take it from someone who has been there...do the Mcom even if you hate every minute of it. While some schools accept PGDBA, the choice is narrowed down by a big deal coz many want the Masters thing. Then add to it the fact that SCDL hasnt got the backing of any univ...leaves even fewer choices. -

bdsam posted 02:09 AM, 24 May '06 Hi All, This is my research on Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School. Though it appears on the Economist site ... surprisingly other reputed Rankings like FT Rankings, BW rankings and US news rankings completely forgot about it! I agree that these rankings are Pro American and they forgot our very own IIMA too :) However FT ranks this school among the top EMBA schools ... at 43rd rank ... but never in the full time MBA ratings http://rankings.ft.com/rankings/customProgrammes/rankings.html Even their site says this: "We are proud to be the highest ranked Belgian Full-time MBA (EIU - The Economist) and the N 1 Executive Education provider in the Financial Times Rankings." --- read carefuly words can be decieving here! Again they have ... "According to The Economist our Full-time MBA programme is N 1 in BENELUX (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg)." which is little difficult to buy ... with schools like RSM Erasmus University and University of Bradford/Universiteit Nimbas being ... bdsam posted 08:27 PM, 23 May '06 hi hanu! I am no expert aswel but here are my 2 cents on it Since you mentioned your Salary here ..... What is your idea of taking up MBA .... is it for More Salary or is it For a new Dimension to your Career .... Again dont think that your current work profile is not satisfactory, so you may opt for MBA .... Remember grass is always greener at the other side .... what if you dont like it even after MBA? and remember a huge % of junta comes back to the IT field from IIMs and ISB ..... So not may get the most wanted "career shift" in India .....You get a broader picture to look at in abroad MBAs .... with a huge percentage of people shifting career! So please make up your mind first .... on why MBA? Again academically india is a good option ... however the MBAs abroad are much more matured in terms of Industrial exposure they can provide and the magnanimity of the network they can provide! Taking CAT or GMAT cannot have any cons at this stage .... or for that matter at any stage... Read More » -

Crusader_1 posted 09:30 PM, 22 May '06 The Said Business School has generated a 5 million financial deficit, The Oxford Student has learnt. Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act covering the financial year 2004-2005 revealed a disparity of almost 900,000. Probably the school is going to generate more revenue by admitting more international applicants, who normally pay higher tuition fee than residents. This might not be major impact on the MBA grads in near future but if similar trend continues then the school might be in bad mouth again after its initial donor's(said) controversy. plkaushik posted 02:25 PM, 16 May '06 Desigirl, I don't know if you have made your decision or not. Evaluate your future goals, Do you want to work for Long term in US or do you want to be flexible to relocate outside US as well? First case go to the top school even without aid, you can take a loan and finish it in your stay there. In the second case if you want to come back to India or move elsewhere, go to Tier 2 with full aid. That way you will come out with less loan and reputation wise I dont feel the trade off would be too much. The subtle distinctions of reputations between the schools would matter more locally in the US than globally. Whereas being without a loan would really give you a lot more freedom in terms of exploring opportunities back home or elsewhere. Hope it helps!!! ALL the BEST!!! -

CaptainRon posted 09:49 PM, 13 May '06 Hi, I plan to work in the company where I am selected as of now. I will work there for an year and side by side prepare for CAT/GMAT. Now I wonder how many good GMAT affiliated colleges would let me in considering that I have only one year of experience. Can any of those aiming for studying abroad clear me on this? What all universities/colleges are you aiming? Which country? I hear Australia is the cheapest of the lot. What's your say about Australia? AGSM and MBS both require minimum 2 yrs exp. strictly. That means I should stop dreaming about studying from a good univ abroad unless i get 2 yrs work ex? thanx! Ron out! -

mba05 posted 08:50 AM, 13 May '06 1) The GMAT (unfortunately) is only one parameter on which your application is judged. A 700+ GMAT does not gaurantee anything. A good score will adorn your resume (esp. for consulting and banking) but there is much more to a successful application. 2) Most schools publish salary statistics based on certain guidelines which include salary details for international students. Get the facts from the school you plan to apply to. Caveat: The salary information is self-reported (read: expect some inflation of numbers) If you need to return to India immediately after your MBA and money is a constraint - better look at courses in India. I personally opted to earn some $ before school to reduce the financial burden post MBA. Scholarships can help. Internships allow you to earn a bit. You can opt for an on-campus job in the 2nd year. Certain industries / functions are more open to internationals - banking, consulting, tech. Its always useful to have some US experience to demonstra... Read More » -
