Done with " The Immortals of Meluha " and its sequel " The Secret of Nagas " by Amish Tripathi. Waiting for the third and final part of the trilogy. The author has beautifully mixed mythology with fiction, one of its kind. The description is more like a visual treat. For everyone who is interested in mythology and looking for some freshness.

About EFCS, well I may have liked it because I am an HR guy..
For 2 years of MBA, I heard that things are changing, HR has come a long way and stuff and maybe I just found out a few changes through EFCS.. It has mentioned a lot of things that are idealistic but are practical..
And actually HCLT had come on campus and they had spoken about the things mentioned in the book, so there are chances that those are guys are really doing it..


P.S. I did not read it with skepticism, had I done so I might have found it to be unrealistic..

The things that have been studied are not out of the world but you will definitely wonder as to how easily we can identify the patterns in our behavior.

Apart from that if you want to read books that have interesting studies and findings you can read any title by Malcolm Gladwell..

there are a lot of options for that book. It depends on your current level of understanding of relativity. If you want intuitive basic understanding of relativity, i suggest michio kaku's books. you can find them on the net.
however if you are looking for more serious business, you could read roger penrose who's the mathematician friend of stephen hawking (Im sure eveyrone knows him). the relativity that you are going to read should be read in broader perspective to get the unified picture of the universe. For that you could read more on string theory by brian greene.

One statement from him which I like is:

I finished reading The Reluctant Detective this morning.
It was a refreshing read.
Good Job dont there actually

It is about how a housewife gets involved in a twin murder.
The story gets your attention for sure, pace of the book is fine.

I'd recommend - A TALE OF TWO CITIES by Charles Dikens ( ignore the spelling) .. Mindblowing suspense... Couldn't have asked for a more dramatic climax! Was really shaking when I completed it...

It is not bad but it is not as good as i too had a love story.... as you felt some part of i too had a love story is exaggerated you may find that more often in can love happen twice...

Two book i will suggest to read everyone, both are from same author Michael lewis.

Liar's poker - an account of his stay @ Solomon brothers, tells a story of how things work at Wall Street.

Big Short - much on technical side means contain a lot of detail of how bonds work. spread light on the 2007 recession.

its really gud 2 see people imparting so much imp. to reading in today's social-media-driven environment.....reading regularly is indeed one of the most imp. yet easiest way to improve your VA.......another way to improve ur sense of english usage is to listen to english music.......i know many people would snigger at dis suggestion and i've never heard any coaching institute give such advise but i've personally felt this to be effective........i've been a fan of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and Joni Mitchell since i was 17 and listening to them has made me very proficient in english without giving a lot of effort.......when you like a song very much, you constantly hum it in your mind and the words get internalised into your consciousness without you realising it........i didn't study VA at all during prep. for CAT 2011 and didn't even follow the techniques my coaching institute gave me for tackling the RC questions........just followed my instinct and my innate sense of english........went out out of the exam hall 2 times during the VA section.......attempted 29 questions out of 30 and got 99.97%ile...so frnds identify a few musicians you like and listen to their music......it can help you get more comfortable with the language.....

I would like to recommend "The Difficulty of Being Good" by Gurcharan Das.
In this book the concept of Dharma is explained using various happenings from the Mahabharata and historical examples. It shows the reader how one can lead a moral life even in the midst of uncertainities.

Please allow me to share with you how The Secret changed my life and in a very real and substantive way allowed me to overcome a severe crisis in my personal life. It is well known that the premise of The Secret is the science of attracting the things in life that you desire and need and in removing from your life those things that you dont want. Before finding this book, I knew nothing of these principles, the process of positive visualization, and had actually engaged in reckless behaviors to the point of endangering my own life and wellbeing.
At age 36, I found myself in a medium security prison serving 3-5 years for destruction of government property and public intoxication. This was stiff punishment for drunkenly defecating in a mailbox but as the judge pointed out, this was my third conviction for the exact same crime. I obviously had an alcohol problem and a deep and intense disrespect for the postal system, but even more importantly I was ignoring the very fabric of our metaphysical reality and inviting destructive influences into my life.
My fourth day in prison was the first day that I was allowed in general population and while in the recreation yard I was approached by a prisoner named Marcus who calmly informed me that as a new prisoner I had been purchased by him for three packs of Winston cigarettes and 8 ounces of Pruno (prison wine). Marcus elaborated further that I could expect to be raped by him on a daily basis and that I had pretty eyes.
Needless to say, I was deeply shocked that my life had sunk to this level. Although Ive never been homophobic I was discovering that I was very rape phobic and dismayed by my overall personal street value of roughly $15. I returned to my cell and sat very quietly, searching myself for answers on how I could improve my life and distance myself from harmful outside influences. At that point, in what I consider to be a miraculous moment, my cell mate Jim Norton informed me that he knew about the Marcus situation and that he had something that could solve my problems. He handed me a copy of The Secret. Normally I wouldnt have turned to a self help book to resolve such a severe and immediate threat but I literally didnt have any other available alternatives. I immediately opened the book and began to read.
The first few chapters deal with the essence of something called the Law of Attraction in which a primal universal force is available to us and can be harnessed for the betterment of our lives. The theoretical nature of the first few chapters wasnt exactly putting me at peace. In fact, I had never meditated and had great difficulty with closing out the chaotic noises of the prison and visualizing the positive changes that I so dearly needed. It was when I reached Chapter 6 The Secret to Relationships that I realized how this book could help me distance myself from Marcus and his negative intentions. Starting with chapter six there was a cavity carved into the book and in that cavity was a prison shiv. This particular shiv was a toothbrush with a handle that had been repeatedly melted and ground into a razor sharp point.
The next day in the exercise yard I carried The Secret with me and when Marcus approached me I opened the book and stabbed him in the neck. The next eight weeks in solitary confinement provided ample time to practice positive visualization and the 16 hours per day of absolute darkness made visualization about the only thing that I actually could do. Im not sure that everybodys life will be changed in such a dramatic way by this book but Im very thankful to have found it and will continue to recommend it heartily.

"The secret" is an excellent book...
the book tells you that if u want to achieve something then u should imagine that you have already achieved that destination and start behaving like this thing is part of your life....then universe will conspire to help you for achieving your dream..(alchemist theme ..)

That statement is scientifically proved also as just like every action has it's reaction ,in the same manner ,every thought of yours also has equal and opposite reaction.
So, if u have good and positive thought then universe will respond to you positively and will help you to achieve your dream...
and conversely if u think negatively then it will also hit back to you negatively

But the main theme of book is to remain positive and always remain optimistic about your goal..
will recommend to read that book....

i wont call it a must read coz it can act as eye opener for some and disturbing fr others ...
for me it ws an interesting one ...as i started reading with unbiased mind ..//

Today, i finally picked out ravinder singh's "I too had a love story" from the shelf. Reading it at one go,i felt it's an amazing love story between two strangers who fell in love first(thanks to cellphns and internet), before their eyes actually met (in real, of course they had photographs).. The novel is full of wonderful phrases like, "she died. i survived. i survived to die everyday", how looks and dressing senses don't matter once you fall in love, how you run out of time when you are with your better half and of course, the promises. Although at some point, it felt exaggerated, but then i feel supportive, as the author lost his love and he had all the reasons to let his heart flow and transform the same into words. I somehow felt connected to the novel,as i could envisage clearly the places mentioned,i belong to the places (both kol & fbd).
In the end, it's like reading a Nicholas Sparks' novel with some Indian touch.
it's a good read. Go for it(if you haven't already), you wont regret. :)

How? Read what you like. Whatever it be, Nandan, Champak, Tintin, Timbuktu. Read it for comprehension's sake. The words you find difficult, try to infer there meaning from its context. And then refer the dictionary for the exact meaning. Note the words down.

Slowly and steadily you'll move towards climbing the comprehension ladder. Doesn't happen in a day. Later in the stage you should aim for critical reasoning of the classics and books of popular acclaim.

I recently finished When Darkness falls and other Stories by my favourite of all times RUSKIN BOND.
He instills faith and good things in my heart.
Lovely read to say nontheless.
In fact I finished it in 2 hrs. Its a hardly 120 page book.

i have read three novels of salman rushdie .......the satanic verses ,shame and midnight's children .....reading his imaginary homelands these days ....

i do find him full of sarcasm ..he is full of criticism ..his sense of humour is just awsome..i hate him fr spreading negativity on every issue ...
the best thing in his novels is that he ends every story within the novel..at the end u donot have questions on any character or any event .
his main characterstic is magical realism ...which i came to knw after reading in wikipedia (after finishing 2 novels )
i also hate him using very hi-fi english ...i generally donot get his frst 10 -12 pages ....
