Nice compilation of some good managment books.I have not read any of them but from the name of these novels it seems all talk about
how to manage other ppl ,none talks abt how to manage urself.Before we take over the responsibility of managing other ppl we shld manage ourself so i would like to include one book that talks abt the same .

It not only talk wot we shld do to manage our life ,time but also how to so it by giving nice example.

Khalid Hosseini's--The Kite Runner.
A review

Khalid Hosseini has produced a splendid work.The author who is currently in US flashed back to his memories. The story revolves around A who is Khalids childhood friend. Khalids father being a typical Afghani wanted his son to be brave and courageous like him. But Khalid was most of the time busy with his intimate friend A. His friend was the son of his servant B.
Khalid did not protest for any kind of oppressions done to his friend by the local boys. His feeling that his father loves A most had made the conditions so that A along with his father has to leave the house.
Khalid repented by remembering those moments and in order to apologize to A he went in search of him to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The story took a saddest turn when he came to know that A was his Brother.
The writes very profoundly casts the plot of the story keeping the language simple enough. His style creates the scene for the reader to deliberate on to the vagaries of life which a person has to go through and it really touches the core of ones heart.

Read the transalted version of Parineeta by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhaya.... Its considered as a classic in Indian literature... One of the reason maybe because it questioned the relevance of caste system in Indian society, and was written from a woman's perspective in the early 1900s... The story may seem amauterish when compared to today's books and movies coz we've seen the love story depicted in this novel so many times..... But at that time, it was an innovative story and should be read keeping that fact in mind.... Read it to get a taste of our own great Indian writings ...

the curious incident of the dog in the midnight by Mark Haddon..very strange book... u will know once u read it... anything by wodehouse... nothing by sheldon.. i wud also recommend atlas shrugged by ayn rand... agatha christie to kill time.

started reading that book 2 months back.gave up after fe pages.not bcoz it was not interesting,but bcoz i was not in that type of mood then.will pick it again sometime later.

its different from founatinhead and atlas shrugged, in the sense that it begins much like a normal novel(like say a ludlum novel describing the day-to-day misery in socialist ussr).can't comment what happens later.and yes it has a female protagonist.

well i have read the book. the book is all about what a bschool education can't teach us. it says all business problems come down to people problems.it tells how we can read people and develop shrewd insight into people. it also gives some fantastic fundas to overcome common business(read people) problems. overall a must read.

Siddhartha is good...

Read My Feudal lord by Tehmina Durrani. It is an autobiography of a Pakistani woman who was married to a promiment Pakistani politician. It gives an insight of the role of women in a muslim society.
Well written though sometimes it does get gory as the author explicitly describes the physical and emotional torture inflicted upon her by her husband.

Theres one more 'The lost Horizon' a very good story with the background of Tibet.

I was desperately trying to get this short story after watching the movie, which has found a place in my all-time favorite movies list. Its a part of the book containing short stories named Closing Range: Wyoming Stories. At last found an e-book copy and finished it straight-away in just one hour. For those who don't know about the story: Its a story of two young men - Ennis and Jack Twist - who meet unexpectedly on Brokeback Mountain and a form a relationship which turns into deep intimacy. After the season they go back to their respective lives and marry their respective wives... but their love for each other never ceases.... Its a poigant and epic tale of these two doomed lovers which spans over two decades.

Since I had seen the movie before, I was bound to compare it with the movie and honestly speaking I can't decide which one is better.... Once u get over the uncomfortable feeling that u r reading a gay love story (if u have one), it touches ur heart so deeply that u want to cry..... It amazing how Pultizer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx gives the story a feeling of an epic in just 26 pages. The best thing about the book is that it doesn't say anything at all about gay rights or something like that. Instead it concentrates on the pure love between two human beings, irrespective of their gender..... giving the message that love is a universal emotion....

I guess this story is also going to find a place in my all-time favorite books list.. Amazing read!!!!!!!!

SANTARAM a unique book depicting a story must to cherish thn to read....

Nice book. It will come in handy if you want to read something quickly and get it over with. However, the business learning will carry you far. There ain't no fancy terminology in here. Just plain and simple words from the minds of the great business personalities of India such as Dhirubhai Ambani, Rahul Bajaj, Aditya Birla and Sam Pitroda. And yes, Sumantra Ghoshal is also there.

Read Eragon few days back....
and honestly it looked as my Harry Potter days were back again....
The book is good just took three evenings to complete it amidst football and Wimbeldon...
The book's been nicelly written interweining secrets and plots...The hero Eragon is just like Harry gifted yet unaware of his powers , brave yet makes mistakes...
One quite a beautiful aspect of the novel is the relationship b/w the boy Eragon and his Dragon Sapphire....
Just waiting to lay my hands on the next part....

ps:Is the name of next novel "Eldest" cos Murtagh is Eragon's eldest brother....just speculating:neutral:

Another interesting thread hmmm!!! Couple of my favs are : 'Mayada' by Jean Sasson. This book binds you because it is a real life experience of a reporter who had covered atrocities on women in Iraq under Saddam's rule.

Another evergreen book would be Lee Iacocca's Autobiography and yes of course Danielle Steel's ' Answered Prayers '.

heyy... did read Mayada.. very contemporary... amazin insight on the world under saddam... wudnt be surprized why people r pushin fr a capital punishment to saddam....!!

The last book i read was 'Zen and Art of MotorCycle Maintenance'- very slow read(atleast for me) as it is complete philosophy. i felt like...:2gunfire: But its a real good book if u r preparing for CAT- must read if u run away from philosophical passages.

Well....the books I've read in the last couple of months....

Maximum City by Suketu Mehta is a well
written book.Thoroughly researched and detailed...its about
Mumbai....different aspects covered....from bollywood to
the underworld to the geography and so on.
I personally enjoyed the book.

Class by Erich Segal is another superb book .... fast paced
and enjoyable.

Q&A; by Vikas Swarup was ok... a page turner....

after lot of pgites review.. i read "inscrutable americans" by anurag. Actually i did not find it very hilarious. Its a story of an indian who goes to america for studies. i mean we have seen enough and more of movies on this. Not a great book as i thot it to be. it would ve been hilarious in 90's(whn it was published):satisfie: .. not now!!

Its about a serial killer (female) who kills people at regular intervals connected to the biological phenomenon in her body. Strictly okay. Its reasonably well written. Breezy read, 'go through it in a couple of days' type

Just picked up 'A Beautiful Mind' by Sylvia Nasar. It is a biography of John Nash Jr- Nobel Laureate and student of Carnegie and Princeton . His early life and his rise to fame and drop to mental illnes.

The NY Times columnist author is superb in her portrayal of this 'crazy' genius.

I hope many of you would have seen the movie of the same name, but I havn't, so this is a icing on the cake.

out of my comfort zone is one of the best cricket related books that i have read recently. Steve waugh describes his early days vey well. He has a real knack for creating portraits of fellow cricketers...his description of the tied test , the 87 worldcup, the series in india is superb.....Woven into all of this are the ins and outs of everyday life on tour - the boozing, the bonding, the flare-ups, the issue of sledging (the ugly side of things), the on and off-field confrontations, the sackings (and being sacked), negotiations with the Australian Cricket Board, and meeting inspirational figures such as Mother Teresa. A must read for every cricket fan..... but my favourite cricket autobiography is the triology by sunny gavaskar- sunny days, runs and ruins and one day wonders...

I have just finished The Last Legion by Valerio Massimo Manfredi. Its actually a translated novel coz the book is originally written in Italian language. The novel is set 476 AD at a time of huge turmoil in the Roman Empire. Certain incidents do correspond to the life of King Arthur, but the novel still provides some innovation. So those who have a keen interest in Ancient history or fantasy fiction like I do would love it. All in all a good read.
