I can never forget the hot after noon of 1987 when i was a kid travelling with my family by bus from delhi to amritsar for our anuual trip to golden temple. There was a road jam somewhere in the way and villagers had arranged food and cold drinks for passerby. I came down from bus with my dad and saw a tall man walking towards us. He came to us and took me in his lap. Kissed me and gave me a toffee.He was Sunil Dutt - the legend

Those were the days when terror ruled whole of punjab and nearby states. No one dared to come out after 7Pm. Newspapers had everyday score cards of people killed by terrorists and police. stories of fake encounters, human rights voilation by police and killing of innocent peoples by terrorist were all around. every now and then, one could hear the noise of bullet firings and bomb blasts. me too had experienced a sight of bomb blast explosion in one of theatre in Jallandhar which killed 18 peoples and numerous others were badly injured.

All these were actualy a after-math of military attack on golden temple in june 1984 and massacre of sikhs in nov 1984 after killing of indira gandhi. My own play school in delhi was burnt, few of relatives got killed,homes were burnt and many lost their livelyhood as shops/vehicles (tourist buses, trucks, taxis) were burnt to fire. we had to abandon our home and live in refugee camp for few months.

There was such a tension prevailing among people of these two communites who had lived like brothers and family member since last few centuries. infact sikhs were considered as protective brothers who saved hindus from numerous attacks by moghuls and other muslim rulers, same happened in 1947 partition when sikhs saved numerous lived of their hindu brothers who left west punjab ie newly formed pakistan and came to india. Among them there was a youngster named SUNIL DUTT who settled in Ambala in punjab(now haryana).

He was leading a successful life as veteran film actor and budding politician, when he decided to walk all the way from mumbai to amritsar along with his daughter. This was no easy task. Congress leaders were not actually safe in their own house. there was always a fear of terrorist attack due to involvement of few congress leaders in 1984 massacre. All this tension among two communities made him decide to bring peace among them as earlier and he dared his life for this cause. And he was pretty successful in this. He had a huge welcome at Golden temple and there was no single incident of terrorism or killing in whole punjab for the days he was taking a walk. And few years later there's actually no tension prevailing in punjab or people of these two communities.

This was just a single case. He worked hard for various causes and dedicated his life for betterment of common people. He never lost a election in mumbai and one can actually experience the change in mumbai he brought and work he carried from his MP fund.

Long live Mr Dutt. you were a real hero for me
