I know this is a MBA portal but lets take a survey.....

Guess if u r selected for any top B-school (such as IIM, XLRI etc) & in addition u r also selected in any one of the UPSC exam (IAS, IES, CDSE etc) . so which way will u go. whether you will enroll for MBA or whether u will go with a UPSC : : : .

So poll & post here guyz :!: :!: . lets know wat junta is thinking. Also don;t forget ot post the reason behind it. :!: :!: :!:

UPSC is not a exam to crack, its only a way to lead the born quality for the welfare of society its another thing that person after selection indulge himself in corruption.
i think IAS persons are not made by exams they are just born.There is no comparison between IAS and any MBA exam.

Good analysis 666evil!! By the way is anyone going to prepare for UPSC after doing MBA frm IIM's say IIM-A

Thanx .U got an intresting point.Guys who get into IIM-A will be influenced by the lure of money I guess.They are not going to get into IAS and spend 2+ years of training after spending a year writing CS Exams.(If I had a call from IIM A B C or L I definately wouldnt) One of the main reasons that people from north and central India(esp-UP and Bihar)crack IAS in such high numbers is that they are not really intrested in other courses (or maybe they dont have that option if they are livin in remote places).PPL from metroes do Enggn,CA ,MBA and medical etc whereas they more or less are intrested in UPSC only.

I got into medical after my 12th but decided to chuck it as couldnt see myself cutting corpses.(also I am a little afraid of them )Switched to commerce after a year and then decided to do an MBA.Got a couple of calls after CAT 04 but I think its better to do IAS for the following reasons-
1)You weild enormous powers.Something that even an IIT/IIM wont give you(your car doesn't get towed away)
2)You can start a business in your family member's name and rest assured you wont have any bureaucratic red-tapes for getting any clearances.
3)You can resign and opt for employment in private sector.Many IAS officers have done that.
4)You can do an MBA after being an IAS /IPS officer.IIM Ahmedabad will give you a call at 96%ile.(and they wont mess around too much with you during PI).
5)The syllabus for UPSC is damn intresting.Especially general studies.
6)you only live once .why not experience this as well?
But I think it is better to have MBA as a safety net just in case one doesn't clear UPSC,

i am in final year engg and have also got calls from IIM .

but on my priority list IAS is way way above than MBA even from IIM A.

if i were to get the oppurtunity i will first choose for IAS work as district collector for 3 yrs,resign and do my MBA.
ahh..knowing that i will quit the job after 3yrs i can take decisions on my own without the fear of the future..
An IAS profile for IIM-sure to get selected in in GD/PI...

Definitely the MBA - not for reasons of shock of how it has hit the trends!!! But, I have a passion for management.. in its real sense..

Bureaucracy has always had its own massive share of issues to be engrossed in debate from time to time....
I jus cannot tolerate a 4th standard + kushti specialised fellow to intervene with things relating my job.. The career has a lot of glamour.. true.. me too used to applaude those glamorous district collectors on silver screens who used to deliver dialogues on sense, sensibility and sensitivity an Indian needs..deep from heart...
But only for a few hours in the darkness of the movie hall and a few more days until I remembered those dialogues... Life's not a movie.. atleast for the major lot.
Of course, an IASman is more respected than an MBA - the public opinion... but that was wat the earlier generations used to think like... Life has opened up and market econonomy has taken in its toll... Globalisation.. corporates... and competition..

Why do u still want to be a souvenir of the age old British system of governance???
Think, Innovate and Accomplish... or else u can Surrender, submit and regret!!!

i feel that IAS is for ppl who want to do SERVICE.they need to sacrifice their time and energy for the sake of welfare(IAS,IPS).And its the most respected
job guys.And someone was talking of POWER. See POLITICIAN may be on IAS fellow's head for 4/5 yrs but it is he who weilds power long after his exit!!! Its basically the SPIRIT & PASSION these guys have. Yes they have the power to REFORM


MBA--Its the same thing SPIRIT & PASSION but work isnt that much
I guess vis-a-vis IAS

i ll go for MBA I cant handle that much stress!!!

I personally feel there is no point in comparing MBA with UPSC (or) CAT with GRE.
It depends on one's goal... what one wants to achieve in life...!
A few people are evaluating careers on the basis of monetary benefits and a few people are undecided on what their goals are. The later section, I believe is satisfying itself by following the biggest wave hoping that they are doing the right thing (since everyone is doing it).

Guys I know I am making motherhood statements, this may irk a few; but it's my sincere advice that u decide on what you want to be... decide on what suits best your personality... decide on a career path which you wont regret later in life... then take appropriate steps in achieving it.

Yeah, fruskee, you are absolutely correct. Such questions shouldnt come in mind in the first place if one knows what he/she really wants in life.
And regarding power, its the politicians who have all of it. so why not enter into politics. i think thats the real challenge if someone is just looking for challenging fields. Correct me if i am making any wrong statements.

CDSE is my dream..

Cleared CDS I 2004 and went ro Bangalore fro SSB.

I erached the station at arnd 1 pm and the army bus arrived at 3 pm.

So a long wait for me.

Just entered and was provided with some light refreshment.


After a scenario of 5 days. and tough evnviornment couldn't make it..


ANd surprizing result for CDS II 2004 held on 19 SEP is out. ANd i have once again cleared the Written exam..
(EMPLOYMENT NEWS) this week wala.

BUt this time i am sure i will make it through.

I will smash the walls of the whole CANTONMENT and kill (JUST JOKIG)

An ias is more challenging than mba or mba is more challenging than ifs...... i wonder how can we come to such conclusions? it's like asking whether sachin is a better futball palyer or ronaldo is a better cricketer....... the two exams r equally tuf to crack and both promise lucrative and challenging career.but i think the similarity ends there.and wats the point bout more power in ias......wat 'll do with power wen ppl like lalu or mayawati will transfer u thrice in a day(yep it has happened).


neways i dont even know wats the course for ias i hope u ppl will forgive me for that so i dont have much choice...it's mba for me...

IAS - simply for the power it endows you with. An MBA can never wield as much power.

having said that, Im not going to write the UPSC. Ive gone through the syllabus and after one look at the process I realized I didnt have that much stamina in my a$$ to go through all that pain.
