This track had more twists and turns than the straights in Valencia. Never predicted Alonso to be winning. Although he was helped by some luck as well especially with the safety car, but he was there to take it.

Disaster for Grosjean, Vettel and Hamilton.

Maldonado must be heavily penalised. He is a maniac driver. He got too close with Kimi as well. Twice.

Fernando Alonsooooooo!!! watta great dramatic race it was!!! finally schumi on podium.. and 3 world champions on the podium.. absolutely brilliant race from them... so sad for vettel n hamilton..

First double winner of the season alonso(starting from 11th,against all odds) and raikkonen 2nd and schumi 3rd. A podium to schumi after long time,vettel and hamilton must be cursing themselves :-P
Phew,Seriously no one could have predicted that top 3.

If all goes normal, this has to be Vettel's race. He will become the first double winner of 2012 if that happens. There will be a stiff from Lotuses though, if they don't get tangled at the start especially Grosjean.

Hamilton might go backwards in the race as McLaren has not brought any updates since the Spanish GP and he has no extra sets of option tires left. Also he might loose a position at the start of the race since he is on the dirty side and on this track, dirty side is more prominent as GP2 race showed.

Maldonado (if he keeps it clean, of course) might be a surprise package.

Ferraris will get into the top 10 but challenging for the podium is not possible since this track sees a processional race.

I watched SkyF1 during Australian GP and the Malaysian GP but I found it not upto the BBC standards.

Simon Lazenby is a bore and doesn't have the charm.

The 'SkyPad' is an utter failure and Georgie Thompson doesn't know anything about Formula 1. She just has a blank look all the time. That was an investment failure (even on a few other sites, the reviews were bad for SkyPad)

Damon Hill looks completely disinterested.

Coverage from Natalie Pinkham and Ted Kravitz is always very good.

David Croft cannot tone down his volume. Gets excited on minutest of happenings. "Oh!! Lewis Hamilton into the pits!!!" (wtf)

Martin Brundle is a class act! For him I watched the first 2 GPs.


BBC is having an edge over Sky and TRPs proove it that whenever BBC is live, Sky suffers. I believe that Sky would have improved now from the first 2 GPs with more experience.

I agree with you on Simon and Georgie. Both do not belong to F1. I always bitched about Jake Humphrey when I was watching BBC in the past, but after the experience this year with Simon, gotta say that Jake was way better in hosting the forum.
That dig at the dead princess was a bad one, hilarious :D

BBC is free to air TV while Sky is a pay channel. So the rating will obviously be high for BBC. But quality wise too BBC is good (only for 10 ) Sky is trying hard to outdo BBC... that gridwalk is refreshing.. but analysis-wise sky is poor. But I'm okay with it.

And yes the races (2hrs) are uploaded in 700mb MKV format by an awesome guy on warez-bb. Resolution: 720x406, source: Skysports F1 HD. I'll PM you the link of that thread on warez-bb. Check your inbox

I'm also a big fan of the BBC coverage. ( I was actually for the last two years). But this year, I've switched to sky and I'm not disappointed I should say.
I'm in Chennai and I watch the Sky Sports F1 streams rather than the lame coverage by EspnStar.
The Sky coverage is good actually. The grid walk by Martin Brundle is my favorite. The commentary is not that bad. David Croft is a bit disappointing but Brundle makes up for it. Ted Kravitz, Anthony Davidson and Damon Hill make up a good team. Good coverage till Monaco.

This is just one piece from BBC guys. This was a part of the pre-race build up which Star Sports calls it Raceday.

I cannot upload the whole 50 mins Raceday as it is about 600mb but see to get an idea of what WE, the Asian fans get compared to this gem of a show.

They have experts who are genuinely experts. David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan who have had a lot of success in F1. If you remember, last year with our very own "expert" Steve Slater, we had Gary Anderson (former Jordan designer). He is the technical analyst with BBC F1. In 2011 with Star Sports, we never got to know his talent and he was ousted from Star Sports. When you him BBC, he is a gem. Truly, Star Sports couldn't use him properly.

Who we have? Alex Yooung (one of the worse drivers ever in Formula 1), Paula Malai Ali (who can only reveal her blossoms and not the information on F1), Steve Slater (:biggrin::biggrin:) and some guest commentator every race with no good credibility except Karun Chandok (who is awesome).

Well, well, so what about the multiple errors we saw at Barcelona by all 3 commentators ?

It looks like we are now on the cusp of history. We have 2 Slaters instead of one ! Now that KC is not with us anymore, the last remaining sensible voice has left the Star Sports team. Who was that moron with Slater on the weekend ? I think Slater has found his match.

Some of the errors this weekend were absolutely stunning !

1. During qualifying Q3, Vettel came out for what was clearly a single outlap without a timed lap to save his tyres. Slater and Co exclaim "Are Red Bull testing their car in Q3 ? Yes they are ! This is brilliant ! They are checking different settings on the car before they do a timed lap " At this point I was almost about to mute, when I heard another piece of horror by both Slater and the unknown moron (sorry I didnt bother to listen to his name even once). "Look ! It looks like the Red Bull suspension is higher ! Look at the rear of that car, they have fiddled with the set up"

Nothing beats this piece of absolutely dumb commentary in the past few years. Nothing.

2. During the race, Hamilton makes his way to 4th clearly because he hasnt pitted while the rest of the grid has. But the 3 stooges think Hamilton has already pitted and come out in 4th place and think this is the best drive ever. When LewHam finally does pit and come out in 11th place, Slater is stunned as usual. He mistook Button's pitstop as Hamiltons earlier

3. The classic "you can see his head banging against the car now, he is so tired" had to be replayed during the race. This time the victim was Vettel. While we could see Vettel was looking pretty comfortable from the onboard shots, Slater and the unnamed moron proceeded to give us the most cliched Slaterism of all time. Again. "Vettel is looking tired, his head his resting against the side of the car !"

The pre and post race analysis with Paula "whats that drivers name" Ali and Alex "I couldnt drive for nuts" Yoong is the final nail in the viewer's coffin.

Someone please save us from this nonsense.

Let me give a few Slaterisms from Monaco 2012

All through the qualifying and the race he was constantly saying, " Jean Alesi tribute helmet is being worn by Romain Grosjean".

In reality, it was Jean Eric Vergne who was wearing the helmet. Romain Grosjean was wearing his own designed golden helmet.

Kimi Raikkonen is wearing the James Hunt tribute helmet. It's good to see him wearing a 70's helmet. (Then he corrected himself) I mean, the helmet of the driver's from the 1970 not the actual 70's helmet.

We all know that! We are smart enough to know that a driver is putting the livery and not the helmet of the 70's. I was left banging my head against the wall!

Look at the difference between the dark and the light. Interestingly, the lights in the tunnel are on full power and these are the similar lights that are used in the Singapore GP

Uh? Singapore GP organisers have these specially made lights for the GP only. While in Monaco, everybody can clearly see that it is the yellow halogen lights.


and finally

when Mark Webber and Adrian Newey were going on the rostrum to collect the trophies Slater said,

Now the 2 Red Bull Racing drivers are heading on the podium to collect the winner's trophy

Every Sunday night on a race day, I sleep with bruises on my head since I bang my head against the wall every time I hear Slaterisms!!:banghead:

The folks who haven't experienced the excellent BBC coverage wont know what they are missing.

This is why Maldonado was given a 10 place grid penalty. I my opinion he shouldn't be allowed to race here.

Lotus will be on the pace with Grosjean. Kimi might may the penalty of not running in FP1 but he should be somewhere there as well. Ferrari, Sauber, McLaren are all good. Don't forget Mercedes. They should enter the fight if there is rain on Saturday and Sunday as predicted as of now.

The most predictable thing about this race is that it is unpredictable.
