There are 77 seats approx. so suppose they call in the ratio 1:5, which means they will call around 400 people, now if all the 400 people have a score of 97+, then cutoff will be 97+

So basically it will depend on what is the percentile score of first 400(say) applicants.

Can you please throw some light on the figures which appear in the placement report like how is the average compensation calculated.
Also, as mentioned in the IIT K site,
c) Overall CAT 2011 score of 85 percentile and above
Will the cut off be exact 85+ or like IIMs some other factors may come in at the time of giving calls.

I can understand the reason of your inquisitiveness.
The points I would like to make are:
1.The figures shown in our placement brochures are not at all inflated.
Also you should understand that at the end of the day the coaching class faculties are running their own business. They might have a sound knowledge of the field but not necessarily a holistic view.
2. I do agree that IIT Bombay and Delhi do have good placements but that does not mean IIT Kanpur inflates its figures just to match them.These are government institutes and any work done here goes through a lot of scrutiny. So it is highly improbable that such practices are being followed here.
Also a good news to be shared informally with you is that we have begun our summer placements and it has been a very promising start with Investment Banks to manufacturing all lined up on the cards. I cannot divulge all the information but sooner or later you would know.
3. As per the percentile thing I think that in the post above a very apt example has been given to explain that. My approximations tell me it would be around 95+. But such speculations hardly help.
85 percentile is the eligibility cut off below which you would not be able to apply to IIT Kanpur, MBA program. Dont misunderstand it with the admissions cut-off.

Last date will be informed once actual notification comes. Cut off can be anything but will be surely more than the the minimum cut off mentioned category wise in my previous post.

1. The nos. of applicants that are selected for the GD/PI process depend on various factors such as nos of applications received, profile of students, academic performance at various levels, work experience and extra curricular achievements and primarily on your CAT score. So basically it depends on how good the applicant profile is..A certain nos cannot be given at this stage.
2. Yes IIT - Kanpur interviews are known for their technical inclination. You can expect technical questions at the interview depending on your panel.

Two queries from my side.........

IIT Kanpur | IME

The application forms for MBA admissions of IME Department at IIT Kanpur will be available online. The advertisement for the same along with the specific dates for the application process will be published in major newspapers in the last week of November. The price of the application form will be around Rs. 1500 for the General and OBC candidates, Rs. 750 for those belonging to SC/ST and Physically Handicapped categories. No application fee is needed for the girl applicants.

Any candidate who has taken the CAT-2011 examination may apply provided he/she meets the following minimum eligibility criteria.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria
1. General and OBC Candidates
a) Requires B. Tech, B. Sc Engineering, B.E or B. Arch (Mathematics in Class XII) with aggregate of 65% or a CPI of 6.5 on a scale of 10 from any AICTE recognized institute/university, IITs, NITs, and IIITs.
b) 65% and above in Class X and Class XII examinations
c) Overall CAT 2011 score of 85 percentile and above

2. SC and ST Candidates
a) Requires B. Tech, B. Sc Engineering, B.E or B. Arch (Mathematics in Class XII) with aggregate of 55% or a CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 from any AICTE recognized institute/university, IITs, NITs, and IIITs.
b) 55% and above in Class X and Class XII examinations

All IITs funtion individually and have no connection what so ever in admission process.

3)Fee structure can change across batches,but for your information the fees per semester is nearly Rs. 38000.

There is no such thing that only technical profiles are offered. A variety of profiles are offered at IITK - MBA For more information you can check department website.

The applications were invited only after JMET results were out till last year. But as this year CAT scores will be accepted you can expect that applications will be invited as soon as scores are out. The total intake for the last year was 77 seats with governments reservations as applicable.
Also profile is duly considered during the GD/PI rounds and a due weightage is given to the profile. Though there are no separate markings for profile as such.
As soon as the application process starts I will post here on this thread and also there would be notification on the website.So keep checking

As this is the first time the IIT's are considering CAT score , nothing can be said with certainty. It is better that we dont indulge in speculations here cause that would just create a confusion in the minds of aspirants. Still if you are aiming for a seat at the IIT's a score above 95 percentile would be a good bet...But you should remember that these are just my words to satisfy your curiosity and nothing is fixed..

The thread has started almost the same time as last year. It is just a platform for discussion about the whereabouts of IITK MBA. Application for the MBA program at IITK has not started yet. Last time the cutoff was based on JMET scores which has become redundant this year. Also JMET cutoffs are based on ranks and raw scores unlike CAT which has percentiles.
