Hi there...i am a third year engineering student (IT branch) from Sardar Patel Engg college, mumbai. My acads are:
10th: 89.8%...........12th::93.2%......engg aggregate till 4th sem: 67.3
as far as xtra carriculars are concerned i have learnt classical singing and won some competitions and have also actively participated in college events...
i m mentioning acads n all after seeing all the previous posts....so here are my queries..
(1) is my engg aggregegate enough?:neutral:
(2)i will be giving CAT next year and so wanted to know that in case i get call from IIM A or ne other IIM ...how shud i prepare myself for interviews and GD...ne tips that u would like to give for that. Is it true that only IITians and NIT students (engineering) make it into IIMs?? plz help me out on this...

dude, dont worry bout this que for the IIMA PI..e'body knows why people wud prefer IIMA over other IIMs...u dont hv to name the electives..and,moreover,v can tell u the electives being offered here but how can v tell if the other IIMs offer them or not??

normally, IIMA guys dont ask this que...in case they do, simply tell them about the world-class faculty, highly competitive environ, highly competent peer group and all tht stuff...

College, i am above avg in acads, but the single biggest thing i fear in getting admission to any premier B-school is that i have a 2 year academic break, which i took after 12th exam(I.S.C 87%) to prepare for IIT JEE.

i dont know what my answer should be in case i am asked about this gap? will this prove to be too heavy a burden while i am appearing for GDPI

No this wont be a hurdle, there are many guys who hv dropped a year after XII including urs truly. So do not fret over that. If some question is asked, then just state the facts and remain confident abt the same

Yes the ref no. is a two or three digit number at the top right corner...
That is just the number in reference to the calls for the GD/PI which might go upto 800+ or so who were called for GDPI....

I have a few queries regarding the IIM A form ..

1. Should I include my income in the Gross Family income ??
There are no specific directions given in IIM A form.
In IIM L form, it was specifically mentioned Gross Parental Income.

2. For people who have completed their Bachelors Degree Exam, there is a column asking for details of Month and year of final exam, marks obtained, % ..
Does this mean that I need to fill in my 8th semester(this was our final exam) marks only ??
Or do i need to consolidate the marks that I got in all 4 years ?

3. I also need to fill the kind of University/Institution from which I graduated.
During my graduation, REC Calicut was affiliated to Calicut University.
It has become an autonomous institution now.
Also, I'm not sure if RECs can be classified as State or Central Govt. Univ as both are supposed to have stakes in the institution.
Please let me know what I need to fill.

they ask this incoem just for giving need based schols...technically, u shud not include ur own income..

u gotta fill the aggregate marks/CG of ur degree..

fill in the status that was at the time u gradyated & the one u hv a degree from..

Thats precisely what my answer is. But somehow as u said it sounds cliche to me and to profs as well. And was therefore looking for something new or different. Though iam thinking of combining IT and finance somehow in my specializations but dont wanna mention that as i have no finance bkground and also not sure of the prospects in such a domain. It is only that finance and economics has started interesting me from last one year.

Any idea what profiles or jobs i can look forward to do by combining these two.I think this can help me answer the why MBA better??

this is one of the ques that u shud b ready to ans even though IIMA people "normally" dont ask this que..and,cmon yaar,u must b having a reason for doing MBA...

in case u actually dont have any reason & r doing it just for the sake of it, i wud rather say that u shud then "construct" a reason...say s'thing like u wanna gain cross-functional expertise, u dont want to be restricted to the technical field & wanna broaden ur horizon etc...these r the most standardly used phrases as an ans to this que..

but, before coming to IIMA, pls ask urself that do u "actually" want to do MBA??

am not sure but if ur sister aint married then her income counts as part of ur family income i think....anywez its only for deciding the merit-cum-means scholarship thingie once u get admission.

We have to fill the details about the univ....as in the check boxes for central govt/state govt. etc...........Am from pune univ.............am not sure under which category will it fall...........can someone help me out here ??

hotel Oasis....abt 15 min from IIMA and accessible from railway station and airport....Non AC single occupancy room cost Rs 350+ tax...decent hotel......u can call 079-26440008/6 to know more...............
