1) college have displayed the list of only 11 people. Is there any other list college is gonna open?
2) What could be the expected batch size?

yup..this is the list as of now..as u knw that this is the 1st batch so gettin all 60 wld b an issue..So we are commited to start the program with watever batch strenth we get..So u need not wry abt that...

Even at the time of Interview we had a small session on College so the person who were presenting informed that the hostel is optional..... if one can arrange for an accommodation in mumbai then hostel is optional

Yes Correct....
I guess this is the 1st list, they r gonna display the 2nd list than after we will come to know wt could be the batch size.

this course does not have project finance banking and insurance
is it that u will expect only BSE NSE related or marker related profiles and not core profiles of finance?

The last date for the receipt of course fee and hostel fee in two separate Demand Drafts is 5.00 PM on 5th August, 2011.
So the ppl wld be called after that only who are in the waiting list as per the merit order..I guess the WL wld b put up next week.

dalmia mms if its for finance . Its best in finance bc of prof lyke 1. Niven bhatia he is the guru of derivate 2. Arya sir 3. Gote sir all IIm passed out .
And also see to fact that its mms plus finance also it has small batch size .
BUT IF U GOT INTO MET THEN K.J .SOMIYA

I dont think they wud prefer commerce people.. 50% weight to the interview gives enuf chance for anyone to enter.. they wud always like to kip a diversified batch.. dunno though

i also liked the course content.. but then how the course wud turn up is something which only time wil say, though since its somaiya we wudnt expect anything to go wrong majorly
since its finance i have heard tht dalmia takes a front seat as far as teaching is concened
Also since this is a pgdm and thts a mms.. dont know how much diff that makes?

Friend it depends upon which profile you want to opt for after your MBA..... if you want to be in Capital Market Vertical then obviously Somaiya FS.... but i still feel someone who is passionate about finance would certainly get lot of benefits from this course since the course has been designed in such as a way..... the maximum focus is on finance.... teaching wise dalmia is good.... unless you want to get into Valuation Profile K J is good option.... Rank wise and reputation wise also K J stands ahead of Dalmia.....

at some times people are saying placements wil be common at some other they are saying they wont be together
also abt the hostel... is it compulsory or no? cos the sir there did say its not compulsory

Even companies prefer them over commerce graduate for placements.

Please find the % of engineers in IIMC which is consider as best for Finance in India

Season 2010 Engineers 91% commerce 3%
Season 2011 Engineers 94% commerce 2%
Season 2012 Engineers 91% commerce 2%

You can even check the figures of % engineers clearing CFA,FRM

Could please try and read the earlier posts.... what akhilesh is saying is respective to the Financial Services and not Core Finance.... i appreciate your stats but they are not relevant here..... engg might be doing good in the finance but when it comes to financial services not all are good..... IIM C is a different game altogether my friend..... and lets not continue discussing here all this useless and irrelevant topics... if one wants a real discussion on it then lets open up a new thread.....!!

if u r enginering student . This course is a specialized course of financial market . So u need to have basic knowledge of it . And your job line will also be to a particular sector and your enginering knwledge will not be used .

Nothing like that, People with engineering backgrounds are welcome at Investment Banks, even with backgrounds like pharmacy and medicine, they can specialise in their sector, for example, a pharmacy grad will understand better wich drug is likely to succeed, and hence which stock is likely to rise.

Commerce students can learn fast and they surely have advantage in this course, but others can do it as well if they have the passion for it

i dont knw why enginers applied it was also written pref will be given to b.com. Check the sylabas. If u r comfortable and if u want to come into this line then its worth it .
I am applied to somiya bc i wanted to learn and nt for placement

Yes Exactly...... Investment Bankers are not the Bankers..... Who is Banker? A Commercial Bank who does a core banking banking business with general public and corporation, we also NBFC's here...... on the other side since Investment Bankers do not perform core banking business that differentiates them from commercial banks in the world.....

Investment Bankers not only help in raising the capital but also all the financial and non financial activities.... they help their clients right from its Incorporation to the Liquidation and that was the core purpose to give a birth to Investment Banking industry in 1930...

About locker service though its charged, it is not a financial service, but not sure, you maybe right about that

In case of Banks Non Financial services would be termed as all those services which banks do not get paid for.... apart from check clearing, ACH and WT i dnt think nything would come under non financial services by banks.... even NBFC's though not considered as banks do not perform any non financial services..... so the question is very much subjective and depend upon the point of view of the panel......

We can also add in issue of Credit Cards, International Debit Cards, Cheque Books etc at a zero cost also a non financial services...... going by the eaxct meaning would certainly confuse one.... hence non financial means no financial or monetary benefit for any service....

ACH & WT are subject to Zero Charges in some US Banks subject to certain terms and conditions.... we can also add in the following services as non financial

Incase hostels, wat r d amenities....whethr its single,double or triple seater...wat is d fees of each....Wat kind of food is provided...since m North Indian, I dnt know much wat is served in mess in Maharashtra...
