I think it will be 2, if you go by IIM A's criteria last year. I think it said greater than 80%. Therefore, your multiplicative factor would be 3 if your percentage is 80.01 or greater.

looking at my acads can sum1 tell me chances to get call from iim-c and iim-l , n how much do i need to get a call from both of these iims in cat? acads:-
10th- 90.6%(cbse)
12th-80.8%(cbse)
btech-8.81/10(cgpa)= 88.1% ( from NIT)

hi ,I am also preparing for cat 2012, my 10th marks=88%, 12th marks=70.9% and grads =79.2%...is it fullfilling the criteria to get calls from IIMs.. if i score a good marks..

According to given formula for calculating weighted score:
even if a GEN category student scores 100% each in 10th, 12th, QA, VA..
then also (100+100+56.25+56.25)*100/562.50 = 55.55
So, is he not eligible for GDPI??

See in the formula used for weighted score ((QADI Score+VALR Score+SSC weights of 10%+HSC weights of 10%)*100)/562.50.....

u hv taken the percentiles in QADI Score+VALR Score....but instead u hv to take the scaled score....which is out of 450....225 each for QADI & VALR....

For general category weighted score cut off was 67.11.....see the pdf
if u get 70% in 10th SSC weights of 10%=22.5
if u get 80% in 12th HSC weights of 10%=45
So in order to get the weighted score cut off of 67.11 u need to score 309.99 in QADI+VALR out of 450.....using formula...

am i making myself clear???

Last year I gave CAT. I scored 266/450 with 99.05%ile. At 282, 99.6%ile.CAT topper 100%ile at 312.99.96 at late 290s.....
At 244, 96.4%ile. That is what I know. Hope it helps........

@kaaliya -- ohk bro...and i will surely keep a few backup options available with me. and i just found a link for the IIMC selection criteria just now ... cutoffs 99.55% this year and my 10th and 12th grade scores wont be a problem there by the weightage alloted by them and the points scale...so all is not lost i guess :)

Yup!!! thats y i said score above 99.7....99.7 because cut off was 99.55 for those who scored 80+ in 10th,12th ..since u have 78 in 12th u have to compensate that with even higher score.....so,for u the cut off will be in the 99.7 range...hope u get my point....and yes,all is not lost,atleast not for u...

Ya,Gud luck with that....Just for a back-up...do fill other colleges like XLRI,MDI,JB,NEW IIM'S,NM....

Dont repeat the mistake that i did this yr.Its always good to have a back up option with u in case things dont go the way u wanted them to be....these are also gud colleges and not much difference in placements unless u are hell bent on getting into front office I-bank role...which u can only get in A/B/C (that too very few in no.)..otherwise not much of a difference....!!!

To be honest..No chance of getting a call from B,K,I,A,S & a bleak chance of making it to C,L if u score above 99.7...I said bleak coz IIM-L has a diversity centric Adm. criteria and IIM-C gives 10% weightage to 10,12th respectively.

So,if u want to enter L,C score huge ...i mean really huge buddy...Be on the safe side..score a 100 !!!

P.S i scored 99.61 and no calls from any of the old IIM's this yr..!!!!

Every year the criteria for IIMs change. But according to last year's criteria, you stand a good chance in IIM-C if you score above 99.6%ile. For IIM-A you need to score 21 out of 35 point scale to get calls for GD/PI, which you can check on IIM-A website. IIM-B gives serious profile based calls with workex so I cant tell you much about it.

Although, i study in mechanical engg branch but given teh growth rate, locations and better prospects in switching the companies i am looking forward to joining an IT cos viz TCS, INFY,IBM,WIPRO. Will that create any sort of problem since i dont belong to IT branch as far as admission to MBA colleges are concerned and wich one among the 4 listed IT giants u think is better???

Being from mechanical, It would be better for you if you go for companies related to your domain. Why I say this because it will help you in 1. justifying yourself in interviews 2. There are plenty of IT engineers already and colleges(and companies which come for placements) look for people from varying fields. Also some companies specifically look for people of your background and experience(rather than IT people) and would recruit you and pay you more than what they pay to others. This helps raise your employability in the eyes of college interviewers and they would select you.
Answering your second question, it actually doesnt really matter which IT company you have worked for as long as it is IT.

P.S. - I am an IT engineer, worked for Infy for 2 years.

I am a CAT 2012 aspirant.

Have screwed my acads very badly, but i am very determined for CAT.

10th (ICSE) - 71.10 :banghead:
12th (State board) - 64.33
B.E (Mechanical) - 60.60 :splat:

Work ex in a software MNC: 1.5 years

Should i even prepare for CAT or completely shatter myself and forget the aim to make in any top 10 B-schools ?

Dont loose heart. IIM-Calcutta gives 80% weightage to CAT score. So if you score above 99.55%ile(acc to this year), you will be shortlisted.You can also aim for newer IIMs with score of 98+%ile(Rohtak, Raipur, Ranchi, Trichy, Kashipur, Udaipur). There are some other good colleges which dont give much weightage to past acad records mainly MDI Gurgaon, FMS(dont know this year's criteria), JBIMS etc. Just work hard and leave the rest. All the best.

No its not 99.6..
I know a person who got a call at 99.08 , GEM category..
You can have a look at the category.. wrack your brains and find it yourself what would be the cutoff...

Just to help you'll decode the criteria -
100%le - 369/450
99.04% (that is what i have) - 283/450

And every year criteria is different...
