X-84.93 XII-75.67 Degree-BEIT -67.93(62.4Ovr)...fresher so no exp. and decent GD/PI

what is average CAT%ile of ur batch and exp.

I have already applied to SIES,ITM....is NIT calicut better in terms of future prospects in comparison of level of teaching, projects, overall improvement of an average person and placements ?
what wud ur advice be......

The conversion chances should be good enough. The weightage is given for

1. Academic Performance (only Engineering will be considered)
   
2. CAT percentile (No sectional cut offs)
   
3. Work experience
   
4. Group discussion performance
   
5. Interview performance
   

Once you are shortlisted, give your best for GD / PI. The rest depends upon how your competitors perform.

The existing batch has 23 students, out of which 6 are freshers. The average work experience of the batch is 19 months. The current batch has 5 students having >90%ile and 9 students having >80%ile.

The summer placement went fine here. Almost 75% of the batch is placed. Some of them stayed back from placements as they had got in some other companies externally. We'll be starting our internships from Apr 5th and will last till May end. With the way the summer placements took place, we are quite optimistic about the main placements too. :)

The cut offs decided as per now is
80%ile GENERAL (which may be lowered a bit)
60%ile OBC (with annual family income <4.5 L; others fall under general only)
No cut off for SC/ST/PH

Sorry for the delay in replying. We have already communicated through orkut. Even though the cut off is supposed to be 80%ile, I suggest that those who scored between 75-80 also do go ahead with their application. The final cut off will be decided only after we get all the application forms.

Sorry for the delay in replying. We are planning to keep the cut off for General category as 80%ile. But there is a chance that we may consider those who are having scores more than 75%ile. the final decision will be made depending on the total number of applications. So do go ahead with your applications. The cut off for OBC (as of now) will be 60%ile.

We won't be able to disclose such details right now. Anyway, you have a fair chance to get shortlisted. 25% of the current batch is freshers. So that should not be a problem.

NITC selects only B.Tech / B.E. / B.Sc(Engg) / B.Arch graduates. There is no cut off for X, XII and graduation marks. A pass in all the three is enough.

The lowest CAT score that made into the GENERAL list was about 79%ile, but with a very strong performance in GD/PI and work experience. That means even with a bit low score, a good show in GD/PI can make you through. But the situation has changed now and we are expecting more applications this year and in that case the cut off levels may go higher.

CAT score is given a higher weightage than the academic performance. But the real scenario where CAT score plays a lead role is when the students are shortlisted for GD/PI. As of now SOMS admits only 30 students. If approved, it may rise to 50 for the coming batch. Out of this exactly half is from GENERAL quota. So as of now, only 15 will be selected through GENERAL quota. The competition becomes extremely tough and a higher CAT score can give you an upper edge than the competitors. The CAT cut off for the 2010-12 batch will be decided after analyzing all the applications. We are planning to set the cut off for attending GD/PI as 80. But if there are too much applicants clearing this criteria, the cut off may rise further.
Still, go ahead and give your best for GD/PI once shortlisted.

Since this is the first batch we cannot say anything about the main placements right now. But all of us are having a good show in the summer placements which is going on now. The form costs Rs 300 for SC/ST and Rs 900 for all the other categories.

I'm here with a quicker reply now :o
Already we have decided about hyderabad and calicut. Still thinking about more centres in south. A decidion is yet to be made about this. Chennai and Bengaluru has equal chances as of now. The distance between NITC and Bengaluru (it takes just 7.5 hrs by bus) is a real disadvantage for the city, as Calicut is a sure venue for GD/PI under any conditions :)

Hi Krishna,:
SoMS NITC follows the similar pattern as that of other IITs. The window for the application will be open by mid December till mid February. So you can wait till your CAT results are out. The last date for submitting the application will be 15th Feb (tentative). The whole process will be on-line, and you'll have to take a print out of the filled form from the website and send it so that it reaches NITC by Feb 15th.
The possible GD/PI centres will be
New Delhi
Kolkata (yet to confirm)
Mumbai
Hyderabad
Calicut

A couple of cities also may be added to the list.

Hi,
The current batch (2009-11) is the very first batch of SoMS, NITC. The intake is just 30 engineers. Cut off for this year has not been decided. Last year (2009-11), almost 80% (12 out of 15) of the students in General category has a CAT %ile > 80.

All that matters is your weightage score of CAT + Work Exp + Academics + GD + PI

Regarding the placements, we are optimistic about landing in a safe arena. :-P

Hi,
SoMS NITC is offering an MBA exclusive for engineers. The intake is just 30 out of which 15 seats are under OBC/SC/ST quota. The admission for 2010-12 is based on the CAT score (no JMET this year) and weightage will be given for work experience. The selection will be made on the basis of five factors including:
1. CAT score
2. Work Experience
3. Academics
4. Group Discussion
5. Personal Interview

There wont be any sectional cut offs. Only the overall CAT percentile matters. 25% of the current batch are freshers. So that doesn't mean that you need to have work experience.
