The placement for B.Tech and MBA will be handled separately even though the placement cell is common. It has to be handled separately because the profile of companies for B.Tech and MBA will be entirely different.

The MBA at SOMS NITC is only for Engineers / Architects. The candidate should possess a B.Tech / B.E. / B.Sc(Engg) / B.Arch degree to be eligible for the admission process.

I'm sorry to inform you that B.Pharm students cannot apply for SOMS NITC. NITC selects only B.Tech / B.E. / B.Sc(Engg) / B.Arch graduates.

NITC selects only B.Tech / B.E. / B.Sc(Engg) / B.Arch graduates. There is no cut off for X, XII and graduation marks. A pass in all the three is enough.

The lowest CAT score that made into the GENERAL list was about 79%ile, but with a very strong performance in GD/PI and work experience. That means even with a bit low score, a good show in GD/PI can make you through. But the situation has changed now and we are expecting more applications this year and in that case the cut off levels may go higher.

CAT score is given a higher weightage than the academic performance. But the real scenario where CAT score plays a lead role is when the students are shortlisted for GD/PI. As of now SOMS admits only 30 students. If approved, it may rise to 50 for the coming batch. Out of this exactly half is from GENERAL quota. So as of now, only 15 will be selected through GENERAL quota. The competition becomes extremely tough and a higher CAT score can give you an upper edge than the competitors. The CAT cut off for the 2010-12 batch will be decided after analyzing all the applications. We are planning to set the cut off for attending GD/PI as 80. But if there are too much applicants clearing this criteria, the cut off may rise further.
Still, go ahead and give your best for GD/PI once shortlisted.

There is no separate quota or cut off for Keralaites. The admission process is totally based on CAT score, Academic Performance, work experience, GD and PI performance. So keep your fingers crossed for a good CAT score :clap:

There is no separate quota or cut off for Keralaites. The admission process is totally based on CAT score, Academic Performance, work experience, GD and PI performance. So keep your fingers crossed for a good CAT score

Also what is the cost of the form?? its not mentioned anywhere??

Since this is the first batch we cannot say anything about the main placements right now. But all of us are having a good show in the summer placements which is going on now. The form costs Rs 300 for SC/ST and Rs 900 for all the other categories.

The fee structure for 2 years is 3.97 lakhs, including the text books. The amount to be paid extra is the hostel rent and mess fee. The current batch has been accommodated in the PG hostel, with each male student occupying single rooms, with desktops with round the clock Internet connectivity. The female students can opt the ladies hostel as of now. All students have been provided with laptops with wi-fi access. The summer placements of the first batch is going on now and we are having a good show with good packages.

It has been almost decided that, from this year onwards only those with more than 60% marks in B.Tech/B.E. degree will be selected for the MBA program in SOMS, NITC. I'm here with a quicker reply now :o
Already we have decided about hyderabad and calicut. Still thinking about more centres in south. A decidion is yet to be made about this. Chennai and Bengaluru has equal chances as of now. The distance between NITC and Bengaluru (it takes just 7.5 hrs by bus) is a real disadvantage for the city, as Calicut is a sure venue for GD/PI under any conditions :)

Hi Krishna,:
SoMS NITC follows the similar pattern as that of other IITs. The window for the application will be open by mid December till mid February. So you can wait till your CAT results are out. The last date for submitting the application will be 15th Feb (tentative). The whole process will be on-line, and you'll have to take a print out of the filled form from the website and send it so that it reaches NITC by Feb 15th.
The possible GD/PI centres will be
New Delhi
Kolkata (yet to confirm)
Mumbai
Hyderabad
Calicut

A couple of cities also may be added to the list.

Hi,
The current batch (2009-11) is the very first batch of SoMS, NITC. The intake is just 30 engineers. Cut off for this year has not been decided. Last year (2009-11), almost 80% (12 out of 15) of the students in General category has a CAT %ile > 80.

All that matters is your weightage score of CAT + Work Exp + Academics + GD + PI

Regarding the placements, we are optimistic about landing in a safe arena. :-P
