hi...remil!
can u elaborate on extra-curricular activities nd other events happening at SoMS-NITC?
Hi Palak,
Being the first batch, we had to organize each and every sort of programmen in SOMS. We are creating the frameework, which can be followed by the coming batches. Since its a non-working day for me today, I think I'll elaborate a bit on each and every events happened after
PIONEERS joined SoMS.
Our classes started by 22nd June 2009. 23 of us were there, much confused than what you guys are now.

We had interaction session with our staff members. Dr. Ananad Byram (he is no more associated with NITC now) and Dr. Muhammad Shafi were dealing with the marketing and finacne sessions. The head of our school, Dr.Prabhakaran Paleri (Ex Director General, Indian Coast Guard) welcomed us and was handling classes in Principles of management and Business Communication.
Within one week, we had a one day trip to
Wynad (nearest hill station) which helped us to interact more with each other and to get closer. We went for some movies together, and visited Calicut Beach and some nearby places during the 1st Trim. We celebrated the
Birthday of Paleri Sir, presented him a huge card also. The exams were scheduled by 3rd week of August, followed by a 11 day long Onam vacation. We celebrated Onam before the exams, we made a
flower carpet, and had plenty of games, ended with "
tug-of-war" and some awesome
Kheer (paayasam).
The 2nd TRIM started with the transfer of Dr.Anand Byram. We gave him a
farewell party with a gift and a dinner at SoMS. The biggest achievement of SoMS came in the month of September. PIONEERS are proud of Suhas Anil and Romin Mathew for grabbing 2nd place in MBA Grand Challenge, organized by Kairali TV, IIM-K being the first. The winners were given a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each

and they did give us an awesome treat too :)
Sports season kicked off by the mid september. Mythri cup (Cricket tournament for PG students of NITC) was organized by MCA students, and SoMS Super Kings made its royal debut. We defeated two teams in the first round and reached the super eights round. But unfortunately couldn't progress thereafter. Special thanks to "Sehwag" Ganesh

, "Wall" Murali, "Jonty" Siva

and our captain Dinesh (Tamil Nadu state cricket player

) But for a class with just 14 boys (rather, men

), we feel that we have done a good job. PIONEERS also took part in the 4CE (Force) football tournament in NITC (each team having four members and played barefoot:shocked:). Thanks Murali for scoring all the five goals, we netted in the three matches of the tournament. Special cheers to myself the goal keeper, who allowed the opponents to score 22 goals against us (EPIC WIN). We had our a/c and LCD TV ready by this time and we started screening weekend movies after dinner, at SoMS, exclusive for SoMS students, free of cost.

The technical fest of NITC,
Tathva was conducted by end of October and different technical talks, seminars and paper presentations were its highlights. We had the exams by the mid december and had a 10 day long vacation for christmas.
The 3rd Trim classes started on 29th December 2009. Then we had the biggest extravaganza of SoMS on 31st Dec night. We had our new year celebration
Yuck Fou 2009; Deja Vu 2010 at SoMS, with a lot of fun, games and a DJ party (Exclusive for SoMS students). We welcomed 2010 with
awesome fireworks and
more.
We had a holiday for republic day and we set off to
Kappad beach (40 kms from NITC) to celebrate it. We spent an evening there with
games and sports in and out of water.
By the first week of February we again went to wynad, this time for a two day trip. We visited the places which we couldn't go for the previous time. We visited kuruva island, by
crossing the river by walking. The next visit was to
BanaSuraSagar dam, the largest earthen dam in India and the second largest in Asia. We returned to SoMS after a trekking at
MeenMutty waterfalls.
The third week of Feb had our Industrial visit to two nearby industries. Since we were much exhausted after the trip

, we spent the remaining day in a
private beach resort. As you know, PIONEERS never leave a
chance.
The need of a cultural day, gave birth to
Tarang, the annual cultural fest of SoMS students. We arranged a small stage for ourselves, and performed and showed our talents, in front of invited guests. Tarang was conducted on the first friday of March and let's hope the tradition will be followed.
The 3rd Trim exams were over by March 24th and we had
Ragam, the cultural fest of NITC, from 25th Onwards. The chief performers for this year were KK, Naresh Iyer and Hi-on Maiden.
WOW... I'm damn tired.

This was a brief highlight of the extra curricular stuff happened at SoMS for the past 9 months. Now we are busy with our interns and we'll be back to work (rather, fun) by june 9th. Hope to see you all soon :)
P.S. :
Fun never ends at SOMS. Hope the links gave you all, enough idea about it.
Thanks and regards,
