Note for SC/ST, NC-OBC, and DA Candidates

If you belong to SC or ST categories, your caste/tribe must be listed in the Government of India schedule. The caste certificate that you send to IIM should be in the Government approved format and should clearly state: (a) Name of your caste/tribe; (b) Whether you belong to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe; (c) District and the State or Union Territory of your ordinary residence; and (d) the appropriate Government of India schedule under which your caste/tribe is approved by it as Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. A copy of the certificate must be sent to CAT Centre, C/O Admissions Office, Indian Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Joka, Diamond Harbour Road, Kolkata-700 104 . Mention the Voucher Serial Number on the certificate. Failure to produce a copy of the caste certificate will result in the rejection of your CAT registration.

I am working for an MNC and have around 18 months of experience.. Prior to this i was working in a BPO , but absconded after 2 months. i have the OFFER LETTER and a GROUP PHOTO Mentioning the TRAINING BATCH Number in that BPO.I was too naive to take the print outs of the Salary slips for those 2 months . please guide me if i can add those 2 months in my work experience.

IIMA needed an application rating of atleast 17 for SC to qualify..wid 75 in each section and 80 overall (read - these are the minimum requirements..!)

Slight correction sir....'A' has changed it's criteria slightly....they are are not looking at application rating as a "cut-off"..they are merely giving 30% weightage to it, and 70% weightage to CAT, so even if your AR is a bit low, the game is not over.(it's not like last year, when even Mr. 100%iler didn't get 'A' call). Also, the parameters for awarding the application points have been tweaked.....

"realkutta"(nice name!)--->your being an IITian + NTSE scholar will give huge bonus in the GDPI, besides your X/XII acads ain't that bad considering the new criteria....

There is no reservation for SC/ST candidates in IRMA..!

Dude, you are attempting CAT-2011 or 2012 ??

Neways, the IIM's do change their criteria year by year..
U have to get good balanced CAT percentile (balanced in each section) to get considered for these insti's..

IIMA needed an application rating of atleast 17 for SC to qualify..wid 75 in each section and 80 overall (read - these are the minimum requirements..!)

IIMB gives good weight-age to the candidates profile.. much more importance to the work-ex..!!

IIMC considers only the CAT percentile..!!

Being an IIT-ian certainly will give u an advantage over others, but only in the round of GD-PI's... so prep well for the first hurdle

Advice - Dude, try to maintain ur CGPA above 6.5 coz it will matter a lot once u get out of ur college..!! ma saying this coz u still have 4 more semesters at hand and can improve ur aggregate by a substantial amount..!!

Hey Puys,

The sale of CAT forms starts tomorrow. I know many of you might be waking up early tomorrow to book the best slots for CAT. Here are some important points to keep in mind while going for the registrations

1. The Bank opens @ 9.30 but be assured that people will start queuing up long before that so be there before time to avoid waiting in long lines.
2. Make sure you have your original as well as a Xerox of your caste certificate. Last Year after standing in the line for 2 hrs I was dumbstruck when the Axis bank official asked for the original certificate. I was fortunate enough to carry it.
3. Make sure you have mark lists/Scores of individual semesters with you as well. I even remember entering the certificate numbers though I m not too sure of it. Working professionals you are going to carry a heavy bag to office tomorrow
4. Make sure you keep the receipt of the Voucher and the voucher safe. It is required for the later stages.

Will post some more info when I remember it.


PS: I suffer from short term memory loss. But not sure when this happened last time around.

IIMK last had finally accepted 2928/3008 applications.. reason: tweaking of marks.. my fellow mate in iimb pi told me dat his IIMK form had been rejected as he had mentioned 83.33 in his original CAT Application form.. but, he somehow managed to mention his actual % of 83 in his IIMK stage-2 form..:D

So, I think for IIMK at least don't bluff.. as they r vry serious abt it.. afaik try to stick to wht u hv filled-up in ur CAT App. form in ur GD/PI forms as well.. :D

Dude, I never mentioned tweaking facts. I only said, stating facts that are mentioned in ur marksheets. But may be including practical marks or excluding them, as the case may be , which ever better improves ur prospects. Like my board mentioned theory marks only and used them in preparing state admission merit list. But practical marks were mentioned seperately. Now i can either say, my board uses only theory marks to calculate merit, so this is my total percentage or, i can add practical marks saying after all those are subjects i gave in 12th, and so should be calculated in final percentage calculation. So, use the already established facts in a manner that suit u the best. See, if u have to get rejected, why get rejected in first round. If ur percentage are not good enough, and they have to reject u, they'll do that anyways, in 2nd round. Here atleast u can argue, that u've put what is there in ur marksheet, u havent cooked up any fact.

We all have the exhaustive list of colleges having SC/ST/OBC quota. for the PGP course . Can anyone ascertain whether this reservation is there for other courses too. I mean specifically the Executive PGP / PGP-X/ PGP-EX program that many IIM / IIT and other colleges have .These are the 1 year full time residential courses. But their course fees are lot higher ( IIM-A have a fee of almost Rs 20 lacs for the 1 year PGP-EX course) have.

Well in my XII, I got a 79 in painting (courtesy of 70% practical and just 30% theory)....and in chemistry I got just 68, so I was thinking of dropping it and including painting, which would give me an edge by 2.2 points...

BTW does NITIE look at past acads too?

Well u have the option of filling the points which u have gained luckily thru Painting ;)
Chalo anyways, CBSE gives u tht advantage..!! No probs in tht.. even if anyone asks u abt the missing Chemistry u have the Certificate to show as proof and the CBSE criteria of allowing to choose from the best 5 subjects

Coming onto NITIE, it is one of those "Good" B-schools which doesnt give much importance to the past acads
Even the CAT percentile only matters in getting the call from NITIE.. thereafter the way u perform in the GD-PI process only matters..!!

I completed my BE course this July, but am having 2 back papers in the 7th sem, which I am going to appear in November. So while filling out the CAT application form, should I enter myself as a "graduate", or a final year student??
And incase I am required to enrol as a final yr student, do I have to fill the proforma of final year students (as mentioned in the CAT website)?

I cant guide u on tht coz i dont have much info on tht... but if i were u i wud have taken the "Graduate" option..! Coz by the time u will have ur PI's i believe u will be completing all ur Backlogs and get ur Passing Certificate..!

I'll try and ask some frnds of mine, and check if any have been in the similar situation, will surely let u know abt tht if i find someone..

@ sumidavinci - AFAIK u have to give the Aggregate of all ur semesters in Engg..!
Any institute wont be giving special accomodations to only the Mumbai University (I dont know the scenario of the Mh-CET though)
Mention the Aggregate of all of ur semesters..! The Class as per ur Degree certificate (even if u have got a higher percentage in ur final year as compared to the other semesters - coz u will have the proof to show them tht ur University has those certain norms regarding tht)

Nice to bring this discussions puys.... one query that i have been having for a long time

I passed out as BE in 2009. So while filling up your score for the exams do you state your aggregate percentage for the entire course of engineering or only the final yr one.

As Mumbai university considers only the final yr score for Engg. If u have had Kts (Not me) or have lesser percentages in the lower semesters it dosen't matter.
If you score a distinction/1st Class in your final yr (7th and 8th sem together) then your BE certificate has distinction/1st class respectively.

So how dose this turn out. Am i supposed to write the marks as 1st class or the aggregate.

Note: I think CAT explicitly mentions to enter marks of all semesters but there are other exams as well

I answered this query for one another candidate from ICSE board also. U may give your best 5 subject marks. See, U may actually do anything and everything all throughout your journey of getting into an IIM including form filling, PIs and GDs, including giving half information, highlighting specific information, ignoring certain issues as long as they havent explicitly mentioned anything about it and it is not openly considered illegal to do so. What they have asked for is ur +2 marks, so give them that. Say that your board uses this method to calculate your +2 marks, if and when they question u on that. Remember, the 1st round is ur written round. Here no human is going to physically verify your certificates and all. All data shall be scanned and computerised filteration will occur based on what u enter in ur form. So dont lose out in this round. Do whatever it takes to make the cut. This is just the beginning of a long journey. Even after u enter an IIM u'll have to tweak a lot of facts while building ur CV and present actual facts in such a manner that you appear to be a better candidate than what u actually are.

So the BIG notofication is out!

I dont think its there because the website says that: "No reservation is available for SC/ST/Pwd candidate, however criteria for selecting such candidates may be lower than general category."

Dude once you register yourself for CAT 2011 online registration window starting from 17th Aug, You will be provided options for your interview centre choices. You can very well plan to take all your IIM interviews at the same place. So just calm down till you register online and all your queries will get solved then n there itself :)

Dude no one can tell you the "exact minimum" % that you should get to fetch calls from good colleges (assuming IIMs in your case). It all depends on the respective IIMs and your profile. For example, last to last year in CAT 2009, the last candidate admitted in IIMC PGDM in SC category had 96.XX% but this year in CAT 2010, people scoring as low as 85% have also got final admits. So what I mean to say is that your CAT percentile wil help you to get calls but the final conversion depends on your GD/PI performance and your profile.
