IIMK last had finally accepted 2928/3008 applications.. reason: tweaking of marks.. my fellow mate in iimb pi told me dat his IIMK form had been rejected as he had mentioned 83.33 in his original CAT Application form.. but, he somehow managed to mention his actual % of 83 in his IIMK stage-2 form..:D

So, I think for IIMK at least don't bluff.. as they r vry serious abt it.. afaik try to stick to wht u hv filled-up in ur CAT App. form in ur GD/PI forms as well.. :D

I passed out as BE in 2009. So while filling up your score for the exams do you state your aggregate percentage for the entire course of engineering or only the final yr one.

As Mumbai university considers only the final yr score for Engg. If u have had Kts (Not me) or have lesser percentages in the lower semesters it dosen't matter.
If you score a distinction/1st Class in your final yr (7th and 8th sem together) then your BE certificate has distinction/1st class respectively.

So how dose this turn out. Am i supposed to write the marks as 1st class or the aggregate.

Note: I think CAT explicitly mentions to enter marks of all semesters but there are other exams as well

I answered this query for one another candidate from ICSE board also. U may give your best 5 subject marks. See, U may actually do anything and everything all throughout your journey of getting into an IIM including form filling, PIs and GDs, including giving half information, highlighting specific information, ignoring certain issues as long as they havent explicitly mentioned anything about it and it is not openly considered illegal to do so. What they have asked for is ur +2 marks, so give them that. Say that your board uses this method to calculate your +2 marks, if and when they question u on that. Remember, the 1st round is ur written round. Here no human is going to physically verify your certificates and all. All data shall be scanned and computerised filteration will occur based on what u enter in ur form. So dont lose out in this round. Do whatever it takes to make the cut. This is just the beginning of a long journey. Even after u enter an IIM u'll have to tweak a lot of facts while building ur CV and present actual facts in such a manner that you appear to be a better candidate than what u actually are.

I dont think its there because the website says that: "No reservation is available for SC/ST/Pwd candidate, however criteria for selecting such candidates may be lower than general category."

Dude once you register yourself for CAT 2011 online registration window starting from 17th Aug, You will be provided options for your interview centre choices. You can very well plan to take all your IIM interviews at the same place. So just calm down till you register online and all your queries will get solved then n there itself :)

Dude no one can tell you the "exact minimum" % that you should get to fetch calls from good colleges (assuming IIMs in your case). It all depends on the respective IIMs and your profile. For example, last to last year in CAT 2009, the last candidate admitted in IIMC PGDM in SC category had 96.XX% but this year in CAT 2010, people scoring as low as 85% have also got final admits. So what I mean to say is that your CAT percentile wil help you to get calls but the final conversion depends on your GD/PI performance and your profile.

Acads r always taken into consideration during interview.....Now nothing can b done abt the acads....Try maximizing ur CAT score........Try to show lots of extra-curricular activities and all......

One thing but..they have asked to send the payment receipt to New Delhi with the relevent documents. But haven't specified the documents required. I may have missed the point but can please anyone help.

As an aspirant I've derived following conclusion from the new pattern :
From the four topics that are covered under cat, If I'm good at any two of them; lets say Verbal and Di and average at Lr and Quant. Then I can solve my test as majority of di question in section one, and majority of verbal questions in section two in order to clear the cutoff which I'm assuming to be 60 percent in each.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

P.s: Took me ten mins to type the whole thing since a couple of keys on my keyboard are missing :P

As far as CAT try not to take your assumption seriously as cat can throw you any surprise. So to be on better side try to get all the concepts before you go for exam and try to improve all the topics as we have enough time left.

Now you can use the virtual keyboard to type the missing keys

Funny that you mentioned about the mock test sir. I actually had my Aimcat today but i skipped it (it was 9 in the morning, on a Sunday ! ! ! )

Good one. For now, we can safely assume that at least one sub-section in each section would be relatively easier or of equal difficulty. So, if one is very good at one sub-section each, it should be okay.

But, there is the possibility of: one tough section (including both sub-sections) and one relatively easier section. I feel you would get a clear idea after attending some mocks with the new pattern...hold your horses my lad :)

1. As VA is clubbed with LR, does this LR section be made with difficult comprehension?

Very late reply from me ...you should have got your answer by now I believe. Anyway, my 2 cents:

1. 
   
2. Clubbing may or may not make any particular section tough or easy. Practice assuming it's going to be tough so that you bring your level up
   
3. Reason does not matter....you get an extra 5 min!! Learn to capitalize on the same, by practicing your mocks with the same time-frame as that on D-day
   
4. Let a mock test come out with the new pattern. Decide on a strategy on the spot and see how you score. Afterwards, analyze the paper and note down all the strategies you can come up with...try them on 2-3 mocks and find your comfort level in each case..rest you know ;)
   
5. TIME test series for tough and really good VA questions. Regarding the other sections and sub-sections, I am not very sure

AFAIK, the only thing tht IIM's or any other national level B-school asks u is the Permanent Caste Certificate to be shown in Original during the process of admission..!!
Rest assured abt the Caste Certificate and Prep well for the CAT2011... ATVB..!!

1) No, it won't be. Don't try too hard to read between the lines.
2) Probably you are right it is done just for round-off's sake and 5 mins would hardly have any significant impact on question setter's mind.
3) Stick to your basic. Don't leave any portion, no matter how badly you hate that section. This is especially true for quants section. Make sure you can do sum of moderate level in topics you hate and achieve excellence in your favorite topics.
4) Better go for Time/IMS/CL (in this preference order) but if you insist for online test series then you can opt for Testfunda. There question pattern and analysis is really very good. Only downfall, not many serious candidates appear in it. So, might not represent your real standing.

1. I cudnt perfectly derive the theme of ur question..!!
If u were asking abt the difficulty level of LR section - yes LR in CAT is really very competitive..!!
Or, if u were asking abt the LR questions being grouped up wid any comprehension(as in VA) - i dont think tht will happen...coz LR and VA are 2 separate sections wid their separate entity..!!
Well anyways, there are certain questions in VA also which we have to deduce the answers logically..!!
LR and VA are quite related (except tht in LR section u have to have some math knowledge and in VA u have to have some languauge skills)

2. U must have already known how we need to concentrate during the Actual CAT's or Aimcat's..!! Any break will be for ur benefit only...sit and relax during tht time..!!
I wud have been happy if a break wud have been included during last year CAT also ;)
But dont let tht break hinder ur concentration..!!
Try taking the 30-minute online tests to get used to this kind of breaks..!! attempt 3-4 tests at one go taking 5 minute breaks in between..!!

3. It's never like CAT prep can be done in a "limited time-frame"...it solely depends on the individual..!!
Well as u have 3 months from now on, i did suggest u to take 2 months to study as much as u can...get urself acquainted wid all the types of questions which come in CAT...!!
Keep the last month to just revise and make urself thorough wid the Strong points u have got while doing tht rigorous prep

4. As discussed above register for any Online Test series and start ur prep ASAP I did recommend TIME/IMS..
Try Testfunda and TCYonline for free tests also..!!

@ all - Well there's no point in pondering over the new pattern of CAT..!! look on the brightside - there will be surely lesser sectional cut-off's and u have only 2 sectionals..!!
so even if u arent good in VA/LR or QA/DI u can actually do better in one part and could cross the sectionals cut-off's

1.LR has been a tough nut to crack in previous CATs....wid this clubbing they r not making anyone surprised....u can almost b sure to get tough(not exactly tough but complicated) LR's........

2.No Idea......Y do u care so much....they r giving 5 min it's good....

3.Everyone has to change their strategy for this CAT wid such short notice .....It's better to clear all ur basics first.....and side by side giv mocks....

4.Most of the test series r half done.....u can join any (TIME and CL r good)
But rem as the pattern is changed make sure they provide some tests wid the new pattern.......

How can you judge that what is going to be coming...before exam (the toughness of paper;normalisation hena) .....
accordingly it will be same for all so .....dn't panic ....
PREPARE keeping worst condition in mind ......

Extra minute is to instruct us ...what is inside the paper ..(time for section ..about first section & second one)

And I differ with Kafan (my dormmate) reg the time limit..coz,although it is quite possible to implement it in online tests, if we were allowed to look at the questions of other sections, it is quite possible that one may capitalize on his/her strong areas using the time in the other sections to think of the logic to be applied.

I guess the pattern is pretty self explanatory.
1. 2 sections one after the other. D'snt matter if choice is with us to choose a section (blindly without seeing the questions).
2. Sectional cutoffs expected. Otherwise there would be no point in keeping these 2 sections either (but still debatable till we get the clarity)
3.CAT was goint to be adaptive after 2012. So its not adaptive this year.

From the time website, ""The first section will have questions from Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second from Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.

And I differ with Kafan (my dormmate) reg the time limit..coz,although it is quite possible to implement it in online tests, if we were allowed to look at the questions of other sections, it is quite possible that one may capitalize on his/her strong areas using the time in the other sections to think of the logic to be applied..In the past, our strong areas used to save time for the other sections and hence we could maximize our final score... Now, this method allows us to normalize scores across sections but not to maximize the final score.. Their rationale might be to understand how good one really is in a particular section..

and I remember..i've seen some very old cat papers in some book.. at the end of each section, there is a 'hand' to stop us saying "donot proceed to the next section until 25 minutes is completed" may be this would be the case..

Reg sectional cutoff : "There are many students who lose out on a seat as they would have failed to perform in one of the sections," Prof Janakiraman Moorthy.. Self explanatory..

Although it is still not clear but I think one can shift between Qs of 2 different sections and whenever one opens Q belonging to one particular section, the 70 minute counter of the particular section would resume from its previous state. And if you consume the 70 minute window of 1 section then for the rest of the exam you can not go back to that section anymore.

I am currently working in NTPC.joined in aug 2010..I want give CAT-2011:p and hav started preparation recently...Considering my acad scores adn work-exp, do i stand a chance of getting any of the iims if i manage to score > 90%ile..in CAT???
Is it too late to start preparing for CAT-11??...

good acads, good work-ex.
good chances of conversion if you score above 90 overall and above 80 in all sectionals. this analysis is based on last years parameters and hence may change depending on the new test pattern. But still try maintaining atleast this much.

I HAVE DONE B-TECH( ELECTRONICS &COMM; ) 2010 BATCH , I Plan to sit for CAT 2011 & have been working along side my Father in his plastic trading company since SEP 2010 . BASICALLY I AM SELF-EMPLOYED, My QUESTION IS WHETHER WILL THIS BE CONSIDERED AS WORK EX.

IF YES ,THEN WHAT KIND OF DOCUMENTATION SHOULD I PRODUCE TO THE GD/PI PANEL AT IIM IN CASE OF CALL FOR GDPI.

Any kind of work experience, will be accepted only when sufficient documentation is provided. The joining letter and experience certificate (if applicable) would do. But certain institutes insist on monthly payslips as well. So, speak to your father and check if the above docs can be generated!!

PS Type in normal case...do NOT use CAPS until or unless necessary.

Not at all an issue....make sure to score well(in all sections) in CAT......
U hav done well in X and XII tht'll help.....
If u hav already signed a 2 yr contract aim for next year's CAT or may b next to next (whichever fullfills the contract)....Plan in the same way.....

plzzz don't keep Money in Mind, if u r going for CAT.....it is much more than that....It is the knowledge,exposure,et al tht matters.
Those multiple zero jobs r good for some time....they usually end u in ICU

Hey puys can sum1 plz tell that what is the criteria for eligibility for PH Category in CAT.....As in what type of physical deformities they include in PH category....I got operated few years back & have a rod in my thigh, though i walk normal & do all the activities normally, M i eligible for PH category?? Plz sum1 help me if someone has an idea about it...........Waiting for replies....
