Persuing b.a hons. economics from shri ram college of commerce, delhi university..just got my first year result and i got 73% in it..
i belong to sc category..my question is how much percentile would i need minimum in. CAT to get a call from IIM Ahmedabad? I have already started preparing for CAT-2014 as it will be my first attempt then..this is my first post and i wanna thanks all the people who are working for this community and helping out to solve many doubts of the students..thanks.

its nothing like that dud,you can see in spreadsheet of 2011 that people having similar profiles as yours have converted their older IIM calls just focus in your preparations for securing as much percentile in CAT instead of thinking unnecesarily about your past records as you cant change them,be optimistic and hope for the best

1. my academics are not good but i want to get any IIM. but as i m looking the qualifying criteria of iim,m qualifying last year sc category cutoff of academics except 1 or 2 iim..
so plz tell me will my bad academics will be a obstacle to get admission in iim even if i score best in CAT..??

2. m 2011 btech pass out also i dont have a good job. will not having a good job can also effect my profile for getting a call from iim??

I would request all those who got calls to post their profiles including skool n colg marks and also the %ile wid calls they got and converts.
That wud be a great help becoz for SC/ST students its hard to find the actual cut off % ile

This yr stats... 80 plus for a call from IIM I.. Depending on acads you might get a call from K and along with a gud wrk exp, for a call from L..
90 plus for A and C.. Again depending on acads u might get a call from B even at 80 plus... This is this yrs stats acc to my perception.

GD/PI Experience

IIFT - Good GD, Short PI, Nothing was asked in particular,more of a general PI

IIT B - GD was ok.PI started with general stuffs and then moved to economics.More of a stress interview in the end.

IIM K - WAT Ok.Wrote to satisfaction.PI completely based on hobby and my work ex.Grilled me totally on my poor acads.I think the scholarships saved me here as there was weightage in the profile

IIM I - WAT - Summary below average, Essay was Ok.I was satisfied.PI was on general stuffs like the IPL and politics and on my Work ex.Nothing academic questions.

FMS : GD : OK (Didn't know much about the topic but picked it up from the group)
Extempore : Excellent.I knew the topic well and kept on speaking until they had to stop me.
PI : Good- i could answer all the questions except one which was on academics.It was around 10 minute interview ands they were mostly asking general stuffs.

Joining : After a lot of thinking between IIM K and FMS , i have decided to go for FMS

This was my first attempt at CAT and what i feel is that the percentile that you get is only to get the call.Rest is all in the GD/PI or WAT/PI. The second phase is more important.If you can nail the second round there is no one that can stop you from converting the call.However a high percentile does ensures a smooth flow but not a sure shot convert.

I think ur work ex kind of mitigates that prob. Still try scoring close to 95, that will def be more than enuf

I am a MBBS doctor. I had appeared for CAT 2011 but got only 62.93 percentile. Now i am planning to appear for CAT 2012. I have joined TIME and CL mock CAT series.
Last year i was a fresher. But recently i have joined TCS for work experience. But i am doubt full about what to do in future because even on 31st august 2012 i will only complete 3 months of work experience, which i dont think will be counted in any IIMs. Also due to 9 hours of work i am not able to study on week days at all, which is irritating me.
So could anyone just help me out in deciding whether i should keep on working or should quit my job and prepare only for CAT?

P.S. I am SC cat guy. Have 80% in 10th, 83% in 12th and 60% in MBBS.

Well even I had worked for TCS but it was techie role..

Out of no where i got a mail that i have converted IIFT Kolkata ... I was not even waitlisted initially.

study hard, get 90 or above, to be safe, secure 95%ile wid balanced sectionals, then u will definately be shortlisted in blacki, IITs, FMS n nitie, all r fantastic colleges. then the ultimate deciding factor is GD/PI..cat percentile is only for shortlisting candidates, GD/PI is the ultimate thing.. study hard, that is all I can say .ATB .

you have very good chances of getting all the iim calls as far as profile is concerned....

but u should target high percentile score in cat 12,to clear the defined and overall sectional and combined cutoffs...

I have started preparation for QA using Arun sharma 's book ,

Please recommend some books for Comprehension and Reasoning .

I think it wil do you a great deal of good if you enroll in some Test series as it helps u in time management... My opinion is that CAT is alla bout time management... so the more tests u give ur time management will be better and so will your CAT... all the best buddy.... cheers

Arun Sharma is good.. u ll have questions based on difficulty level.. try to solve taking chapter by chapter on ur interest.
Reg test series when u ve decided to join, better join at the beginning itself.. only when u take tests you will be in a position to gauge urself.. know ur weaker areas and stronger areas.. try to put in more efforts in ur weaker areas than stronger..
you can work on time materials, section wise tests. previous years question papers for rc and la, there are online stuffs as well you can make use of it. Finally Work hard! there is no substitute to hard work!
