I understand bro...hmmm..well that has to be cleared by monk or surya bhai or the other seniors on our thread :). But just a point I know...a friend of mine who belongs to the SC category...graduated from an IIM. I didn't ask him about his CTC, but he has secured a job in RIL @ Mumbai. He said his was a unique case where he has no job profile as of now, but he will be creating a totally new department there (from which I assume the placement panelists were pretty impressed with him!!).

And from what I know, in general, students tend to relax a bit after the 1st mod/sem/trimester and as time progresses, they are more into gaming and watching stuff on their lappies (not everyone or in every institute mind you!!). So the CGPA (relative or absolute), is almost entirely on our own hands and so is the placement. My friend said, you need not be born on mars to have a top-notch CV to secure a good job. It is how we perform during the selection process and how much stuff (less on technical, more on current affairs and ourself) we know!! (this is just one person's opinion).

And from what I spoke with him...he never mentioned any kind of discrimination or biasing at the institute(s). Yes, he studied in a top govt. B-school before shifting to an IIM.

I had planned to post all this stuff later this month..but had to change my mind!! Eagerly awaiting some gyan from the seniors!!!

I request you to elucidate on the above points please...do you have any proof of the above?? Are you talking about B-schools alone or in general for the 1st point?

And reg placecom or placement committee, as far as I know (from my interaction with seniors and stuff gleaned from books by B-schoolers, no not Chethan Bagath)...it is the most despised committee and usually, it is the most toughest committee to get into in a B-school. Of course, if the seniors take in people based on the category, that I am totally against and it plain s*cks!!

It would be unwise to assume that students from reserved category as a majority have a lot of backlogs...I would debate it further based on your reply. Because I don't want to jump the gun because I misunderstood (may have) what you said :).

One advice for you guys.Those who have converted the new IIMs must not neglect them.I feel 3-4 years from now,they have a huge prospect.You must remember that IIM Indore or IIM Kozhikode was also started on a day when the first batch faced similar dillema and now presently they are enjoying the reputation.

The way IIM Ranchi,Rohtak and Raipur fared in their summer placements in the very first year is overwhelming and those figures only speak for themselves.

As for Trichy,I am throwing some points:

1)The strategic location:close to industries like BHEL.having nearby metros like Bengaluru and Chennai

2)BIM Trichy,NIT Trichy also have MBA Programs.so the city is not new to the management culture

3)The temporary campus is in NIT Trichy which is one of the best engineering colleges in the country apart from the IITs.Spread across 800 acres of land having all the amenities like library,sports atm,post office etc.

4)The director is Mr.Prafulla Agnihotri who is very dynamic person and one of the best Marketing professor in the country.served as the director of IIM Calcutta.Also served as the placement co ordinator of IIM C.And last but not the least,came to news by the hige success of summer placement in IIM Ranchi in his short tenure of placement co-ordinator there.

5)14 Faculty members were chosen from 320 applications.So the quality of faculty is highly enriched.


Besides these three more IIMs had been announced in the 7 year plan of 2012.
IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur have already announced their admissions.

One more IIM is scheduled to be opened in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

ofcourse the professor introductions will have a space for name and cat percentile.

It is mostly Rs 1000 (max) accross most of the institutes. The symbiosis univ alone get 31k and show that 30k was used for induction program. All others it will be normal i guess.

Just see if u will be having enough cash to pay for both the institute, if its okay then go ahead and pay, deduction doesnt matter.

heyy..agreed that some students underperform during engg...and the reason they did so was because they thinked of them as not at par with others...iin engg..the underperformers club included not only we sc/st students but also many open cat ones...these were the ones who were least interested in things..not taking things seriously...the prodigious ones managed to get through but for commoners like us need to plan..

bro what i want to say is...if ur starting a journey at a bschool why not start it on a positive note and make the most of it....if u think abt trivials like introductions and all lifez hell gonna be screwed...cheers..

good to know that we have finally managed to raise this issue. The same has been lingering in my mind for some time now, but as someone said that we tend to sweep things under the carpet, even i did the same. I would urge any of the seniors or anyone with any concrete information, to share their views about the plight of the SC/ST students at an IIM. And a request to the optimistic puys here, let us be practical for once, let us know and understand the truth.

Upper/middle Middle level firms r more or less same in C & FMS So every body should join what he/she want to join , dont just go by general perception Its deceptive in many sense

The income ceiling is extended to 2 lpa,

My interpretation is candidate who falls in the income slab less than 2 lpa, is eligible to claim the sc/st scholarship.

Wherby it says all the tution fees and hostel fees and book related assistance will be provided to the candidate from the government under sc/st welfare scheme.

And they specifically mention post graduate diploma in management falls under group 1 category which is eligible for tution fees waiver ....

I think you should look for the kind of companies which turn up for placements in both the mentioned institutes and the profiles which are offered..and make a comparison in relation to what u'd be looking for 2 years from now and your requirements.. If you dont find much difference between them, fee factor should be considered in that case.. Personally..I'd say you shouldn't drop FMS unless its for an A,B or C..

Don't know discussion on coaching classes are allowed or not but i would like you to suggest TIME for it cauz it is very vital to join a good coaching if u want guidance from them for CAT n other MBA pgms
TIME provide full support from commencement of classes till end of the season.
It include preparation classes,Test series,extra classes,GD and PI.They can arrange special classes for you find difficulty in any of the subject area
I was student of TIME kalu sarai centre.

I think it is the same for all. u have to pay all the amount initially ,then after the admission in NITIE u can avail scholarships or loan as per GOI schemes:thumbsup:

I dont think pre-studying is necessary. According to my senior at IIM-A, ( he himself pre-studied before coming to A, so own experience) no matter how much you study that will get covered in 2 days in here, so it is not worth it. Rather enjoy yourself, party hard and spend quality time with family memebers, relatives etc etc.

no more generalisations....give me an example.
I have never seen anything like this in history till date.
IIMC..tat too for FMS??
instead I know a poerson of FMS 2nd year who wrote CAT for getting into IIMs.

He is my class mate dude, so i guess i knw bttr .he did wrote cat bt for sake of writing it.
many of my frnd in L got final calls frm ABC bt der r not joining.It is not necessary ,that who s writing CAT ,want to join IIM.

Btw I guess u r more clear than him why he s joining FMS instead of C.what is point of spending 13.5 lakhs if u not aiming for BCG , samara capital etc like C exclusive companies.

Upper/Middle level firms r more or less same in C & FMS So every body should join what he/she want to join , dont just go by general perception Its deceptive in many sense

But we r in unpredictable state...
Though tracker says dat we may get in... but still some unpredictablity..
n jus now heard the fact dat dher r ppl who leave IIM-C for FMS..:lookround:
Competition is increasing yaar..

Not able 2 cherish the moment...

Jus give us some solace... pls withdraw ur admission if u made up ur mind..

I remember that he geve me the reason why he skipped IIM C interview.
He told that he has been working in TCS in Kolkata for the past few years and he is bored of the city.So he wants to taste something different .may be bangalore and delhi.
In IIM B interview,he had a chat with the panel members regarding different football clubs and player transfers.even with 2 lady professors he was engrossed in topics related to club football.


I guess ,he merely came to IIM B interview for complete time pass
And to recognise him,he is completely a bald headed guy with shining surface:oops::oops:
