been ages since i visited PG...wow!!!!!what activity:)
nice to see this thread...hope it serves as a motivation for all you guys!!!!
my only small piece of advice-
lets not get caught up with all this--the mock cats and the real one on nov 16th are the ones that actually matter..entry into this team or captaincy or watever is just a nice hygiene factor...just hope v can handle it that way and not get carried away..
and puys!!!we have always been known for our Comraderieship...what ive seen over the past few pages just is a bit unlike the chennai puys...Common people...everyone has the same goal at the end of the day..
from my side,not sure how regularly i can visit the thread...But will drop in to give whatever help i can...do PM me anytime..ill be more than happy to respond..

This post by Rohit solves our problem. We can have all 4 as captains in the next 4 months

On a serious note.

I guess we have depicted enough of our latent dependence on a captain. Lets do away with this. Couldn't we have had enough motivation to crack this piece of shi* called CAT even without the formation of DT?

Captain is required on paper terms and not indispensable. How does it matter? He only has to interface with the center. N it's not that after we select a captain we are relieved of the duty. It's actually the team players who need to work hard and make things easy for him. N not for the captain to compile things and report to the center.

Next!! Lets all get onto the business. We are running tangential to our main aim.

Its ultimately what u are on Nov xx that matters and not what u are till u reach Nov xx.

RMBT wud actually do good to select one representative and declare to us. We would be fine with that.

Concentrate on a team, not on a captain. Who would he be if he doesn't have a team to lead.

Lastly, an appeal to Ravi. You know what I mean. U haven't finished justifying the award that u bagged last year.

Lets not have a collision now.Lets form the first eleven the team which will run the league.The best team should be selected thats what everybody wants .I dont find any challenge in selecting the team since the nominations are very little when compared to mumbai .

RMBT: Just have a chat with chuck and whoever in chennai team and select a team at the earliest.The final team which is selected will be/should be accepted by all.Its nothing personal over here.Its all about the final destination i.e cracking cat.

Monster and Ravi: leave things here it self.Lets not discuss about that anymore .

All: selection of captain is not pointing fingers on others.Its taking the responsbility on one`s own and taking the team to win .

Those who feel that they can help the team can nominate themselves as captain instead of pointing fingers to others.

Its purely depends upon one`s own self confidence and motivation to help others.

Now its upto people to tell whether they have to become captain or not.If anybody nominates themselves,then based on their pg appearence, their movements with other pgites we will pick one from the lot(considering more than one will nominate themselves)

I was away from the thick of action for a day(just a couple of hurried thanks here and there)... And wat do I see ?

To be very honest, the poll choices were a sort of a surprise really..... But I really dont fit into the captaincy slot just for the very reason why Lee Germon was not a big hit as a captain of the Kiwis .....

Amongst the other three options, my vote would be (is, in fact) for Monsterkarthik.I was a keen follower of the SP Jain threads last season and the way this guy posted was really impressive... Just some 5 or 6 posts if I am right, but he looked pretty balanced and composed ..... Not that the other two are not , but he really made a very good first impression as someone who doesnt worry about by-gones.....
And this was only among the choices fielded.....

But the best part was that people did not think twice to 'call a spade a spade' . This is one quality which would do good to both the individual members as well as the team. Good going.....

About me :
As Obssessed said, I was his junior in college and a classmate of Prahalad85(the biggest CAT don I have ever seen or met or read or watever !!!) and also if George_863 is the same George that I know from my college days, then I know him as well.... But thats all about it.
But of-course we puys will be meeting very often from here-on and I should very well get to know the others as well.... And I had always thought of Obssessed as a quite,unassuming guy while in college... The kind of support he seems to have !!!!!! Way to go ......
And if he was a candidate I would have definitely considered him..

Kaptain vijaykanth is the best one to lead our team..he can crack all the exams with one hand and sometimes with his leg....n he has very good knowledge on tamil nadu(politics) with which he can supply unlimited gyaan of us during the GD/PI season...... but the only thing is he doesnt have a PG account (for ppl who don know Kaptain, watch the tamil film Narasimha).

Ravi, don get off man...Kaptain or no Kaptain our team will rock...lets go with George's suggesstion...Let Ravi and MK sit with RMBT to select the team n lets take it from that point...

So lets kick start our team selection..but as in BBLT....to be or not to be..whether we be a part of the playing 11 (or 15) or not..every chennai junta has to participate in this thread and we should kick a@@ all the time...

Teams like these are more about bonding and learning from each other than showing off our mock scores..once the team is selected we ll come up with some plan for mock analysis and gyaan sharing on a regular basis

I totally back George's post. I don't see any reason for emotions to be running so high here.. This is team Chennai - Our team.

There are no set rules, there is no set authority, we build the team and without even one of us, the team would become empty.

The poll that monster created was made absolutely innocently. There has never been, or will be any bias against any puy.

The selection of a captain is not as complex an issue as we are making it to be, and definately not an issue for resignation from the team.

This team is not made up of 99%ilers! In fact, none of us are 99 %ilers!

The poiint of the league is not to get the toppers, form teams and indulge in browbeating the others.. The point is to get the best out of ourselves!

I am proud of the nominations that have come in for Team Chennai and the unity in the city's puys!

Let us keep it this way, let us all keep the levels of enthusiasm up and ignore trivial issues like this..Please note - Nothing is determined.. we will make the decisions collectively - everyone has a say and every1 can express himself..

Let us act as the mature individuals that we are, Please!

All right guys.. enough of stripping each other naked. Now get dressed and get one thing drilled into your heads. This whole exercise I think was not started to engage teams in campaigning for the slot of captain, manager etc. Please re-read gnr's post if anyone has got this intiative wrongly. We are all here for one purpose and it will be better if we don't forget that.

Let us not put up a strip-tease show in front of the whole forum here. If the issue of captaincy is causing such an uproar let us not go ahead with it right now. Probably rmbt can get in touch with rohit and see if we can postpone selecting a captain till things actually settle down. First let us concentrate on the bloody mocks. Like I said, let the men prove it on the field. A captain will emerge by himself from within the team. There is no point disintegrating over one issue and trying to behave like the Pakistani cricket team

All those who have withdrawn nominations, ran out of the team, climbed upon roofs and trees.. just let the steam condense a bit and think with cool heads.

Put off the selection of the captain for now. Select the team first and let us see how we can proceed. Basic flaw here is, without even selecting the team, we have decided to select the captain! Let us all know what you decide.

As of the nominataions that I have seen so far.. Most of us are BBLT material.. Obsessed was already a member of that and I got hooked onto PG jus because of BBLT 07.. Now wat made BBLT so great.. why was it i went about reading that..
Because it was only there, that I was able to find equals.. I open DT or UDT and i find scores that I can only dream abt.. Believe me.. it was the likes of Hameed (now XLRI), Deep(Nirma) and Tanveer that kept me going the prev season.. I was a very passive poster than but an active thanker.. Have a look at my thank count... Most of them would be on the BBLT thread.. And actually I never even posted on the SIMCAT threads.. with scores ranging from 68 - 92 I felt kind of ashamed to even post.. But its the inspiration and motivation that I could gather that held me together

Now coming to the point.. as with BBLT - 07, lets be a team.. not a bunch of individuals like ENGLAND Soccer Team.. who are stars in their own way but have not won a world cup for past 60 odd years.. Lets remain united in all issues.. Lets not create a ruckus at the start itself.. Remember IIM results will be out only by May 09 and we need to support the whole lot of puys until then.. Let our thread be like the BBLT one where all other city members find solace and keep pouring in their thoughts.. Let us look at the long term goal of getting to a good position in life and not ultra short term ones like "Captain of Chennai DT 08".. and surely not "Nominator of Captain of Chennai DT 08".. Hope I was able to put my views across..

Will always support Chennai.. Whether it is CHENNAI SUPERSTARS or CHENNAI SUPERKINGS or CHENNAI DT.. Asking RMBT and Andy to choose the skipper as they know almost all the nominees personally.. Let them decide and pick one amongst the Chennai makkal

And I propose our team to be called.. "THE ORIGINAL BBLTIANS"

Ravi, agar hum buddhe hi chale gaye to bacchon ka kya hoga , dude the oldies are the backbone of the team, this step of yours would make the team suffer and hence it doesnt matter what captain decides but i as a member, and one of the very few oldie of Chennai cant let you withdraw your nomination from the team and u would have to continue woth us . Lets not argue further on this. A thing done is done. Now lets try seeing what can be done now. I would suggest along with the four puys in the poll,obsess and rmbt join together and start a chat conference and you people decide who among you 5 can be best captain or you 5 can make a post here as how you can prove to be the best captain. Let rmbt decide the best person.

Also you 5 nominated captains can nominate one captain(apart from u) then the person with more number of votes+ rmbt's decision shall do the rest.

But what is happening right now is not giving a very good impression about this team. It seems more like a group of people rather than a 'team'. Such things should best be decided by nomination rather than election. Slugging it out in the open is simply not the right thing to do. :

A captain is one who should be able to inspire and motivate the team members - either by leading by example or by Motivating others simply by talking to people. (Or by both even). So discuss this issue with care. And yeah, the person who is the captain should be experienced.

Chennai team along with the Delhi team is one of the favorites. Please try and live upto to the expectations we have from you guys :)

i completely agree to ur thought..i actually was surprised to see a poll in this thread for selecting a captain..someone like rmbt/chuck should decide the captain..cos they know better who would suit better for the role..its like asking the indian players to choose their own team..im not blaming the newbies cos they voted for Indiana jones..we shouldnt have a poll in the first place!!the process of selecting the captain is flawed..

Ok guys, I think we are overplaying this captain thing a bit. First of all chuck the thoughts of leaving the team over the captaincy issue, OUT OF THE NEAREST WINDOW.

If there is such a problem amongst the team members on deciding who the captain should be, then let us have no captain at all. Let the coach or the manager act as non playing captains for a few weeks. After a few mocks when some players attend meets as well as mocks and prove their mettle on the field, then we can go for a playing and performing captain. If we go solely by past performances then I think there is a wide difference of opinion here.

Main AIM here is to crack CAT and help our peers as well in this quest. If some issues are preventing this, then let us chuck them aside and concentrate on the main GOAL. Hope I have made things clear.

There was a time when i was attending my 1st meet in Chennai, but i was accepted and after a couple of meets i had a good rapport with all puys in Chennai.I think we can build personall rapport with jones and all of us can have a bonding with him post 2 meets as much as i have with obsessed (for a matter of fact, i have met obsessed only a couple of times, and in the whole junta only ravi, myself, rungta,george and maverick know who is obsessed, am i wrong in saying that??). Our team majorly would consist of people who havent attended many PG meets in Chennai and i dont see any harm in Jones being selected as the captain

Finally i would just say that i hope the best man wins, and hope whoever wins takes charge of this battle called CAT 2008

and monster wat are u talking abt rappo?did u have a good rappo with me/other puys jus 2 times after u met me/other puys??i dont think so..we met almost 4 to 5 times a week and that is why we had/have a good rapport...the rappo i shared/share with the puys was not just after one/two weeks..it took almost 4 to 5 months for it to develop..and how many months do we have for CAT???one more thing wen ur adding a poll ur the one who is supposed to look at the profiles and post the cadidates name on the poll!!!!how can u ask ppl for suggesting names on the poll??instead of this we could have straight away posted saying so and so can be captain..y do we need a poll then??

obsessed has been to more PG meets last season than indiana jones and shares a better bonding with us than jones..

Today morning i had posted to ask people who all they want to be a part of poll and no where was obsessed's name was appearing and hence i havent included his name, and everyone knows that i dont have any personal grudges with him. Again, what i wanted to say is that, yes till date Jones hasnt attended a single meet and is new to all of us, but u tell me how was the DT wroking last year. People were selected from accross the country, people who did not know about each other and from one of them a captain was selected and finally all of us know how well did JLT did and how well the Dream Team 2007 did.

im not against ppl voting for him nor do i have any personal grudge against him but being a captain is not purely based on the mock scores..the puy should have been to PG meets and should have a good bonding with the puys..lets not do it the same way the other cities are doing..lets try to inject some thought and have a unique way to selecting a captain..this is my opinion..if ppl still feel its not worth it voting can go on..if being a captain is purely based on mock scores and prev CAT perfomances im sorry im opting out of this dream team..
so if some newbie tomorrow posts a mock score of 99.xx u guys will make him the captain is it???

Again i dint select Jones because of his good performance in one of the mocks, if you see his previous attempts, he has got good scores in last three attempts at CAT and i would say he has been a consistent performer and has good knowledge about the exam. As said he has been taking CAT since 2005 which means he has as good as experience as ravi or obsessed have.

i completely agree to ur thought..i actually was surprised to see a poll in this thread for selecting a captain..someone like rmbt/chuck should decide the captain..cos they know better who would suit better for the role..its like asking the indian players to choose their own team..im not blaming the newbies cos they voted for Indiana jones..we shouldnt have a poll in the first place!!the process of selecting the captain is flawed..

i want to iterate one thing..A captain should be someone is more visible to the whole team(obsessed scores 10/10 here).someone who shares a great rappo with the team members(obsessed scores 10/10 here again)..someone who was more regular to the meets last season(obsessed scores 10/10 here again)..someone who can inspire the team mates(not purely on mocks scores)..someone who has got prior experience in CAT/work(jones fits in here no doubt)..
one more thing why i suggested obesessed_about_mba is he has the experience of attending a few b school calls last season..he had a SPjain mumbai call and spjain dubai call..converting it is a different aspect altogether..he can give valuable inputs to us during the GD's/mock PI's we have after CAT..jones also fits into the b school thingy but he doesnt fit into the "text in bold"..for someone to come in and then establish a rappo is gonna take time..remember guys how much time it took for us to develop a good rappo..
guys selecting a captain is not jus for doing timepass and not till nov 16th..a captain is one who has experience and has to stand on till the last day(Read as the Day the IIM final admits are out next season)!!!
so my suggestion is look for a long term captain and not for someone who doesnt have enough experience and visiblity..that is why i was not interested to be a captain in the first place..i was surprised to see no one nominating obsessed as captain except me :|!if we are serious about the Chennai Dream Team lets go about it else i suggest lets write this plan off!

P.S : if we are selecting the captain from a poll im off the dream team for sure!

how many times has he come to the PG meets last season??
obsessed has been to more PG meets last season than indiana jones and shares a better bonding with us than jones..im not against ppl voting for him nor do i have any personal grudge against him but being a captain is not purely based on the mock scores..the puy should have been to PG meets and should have a good bonding with the puys..lets not do it the same way the other cities are doing..lets try to inject some thought and have a unique way to selecting a captain..this is my opinion..if ppl still feel its not worth it voting can go on..if being a captain is purely based on mock scores and prev CAT perfomances im sorry im opting out of this dream team..
so if some newbie tomorrow posts a mock score of 99.xx u guys will make him the captain is it???
A Captain should have more visibility..its like making ishanth sharma the captain in the next tour jus cos he was successfull in the last tour!!

I completely agree with u but then if you puys have decided to select the captain by poll it is pity obvious that the best performer in mock cats will be selected. I m not trying to hurt anyone. You puys must have found lot of newbies and lot of other puys who dont attend PG meet but still they will take part in the poll. So who do you think will they vote?

to the one who is regular to PG meet and who can better co-ordinate things( which they have never seen)?

or to the one who have rocked mock cats(which they know)?

Its pity obvious that they will go the 2nd option. I would suggest to forget about votes and let the senior puys decide the best captain. rmbt,getintoiimb, kartik and few other seniors can probably enter into a conference chat and can decide one best captain.

All right, I think the role of the captain is as under

1) Should be able to coordinate team activities and gel the unit together
2) Should organize and schedule meets
3) Should co-ordinate with PG HQ and ensure that Chennai is aways in the thick of things
4) Should be well networked
5) Last but not the leas, he should keep track of the scores of the team members and ensure that things are ruunning moothly within the team

I personally feel a captain need not be the best performer in terms of percentiles in your team. This is like the logic, that your best player is the captain. And we have all seen how it works ;). Captaincy can be given to someone who will only perform better and better due to the additional responsibilities as Captain of a team, in addition to all the roles that I have listed above. We all know who can fit into the above scheme of things.

Hence my vote goes to ravi(getintoiimb). He might not be the greatest performer(he is not poor as well) in mocks right now, but I expect him to scale up very fast. And we all know he is more than capable of performing the role. Rest is up to you guys to decide. I have penned down my thoughts. Make a wise decision.

Me after lot of confusion have decided to take CAT again...as of now only one simcat but will be regular from 12th july onwards. I thought of joining BIM but cancelled at last moment so back now
