can u tell me what is the criteria at SPJIMR PGPM for admissions in terms of the quality and quantity of work experience, what is the GMAT score range they accept...to be precise the minimum scores :)

I am currently in UK and am having a tough time. I got the documents late and then when I called up Mr. Ghore for the loan, he told me that I have to be physically present for the disbursement, which is not possible for me as I have recently come here and there is a lot of work here. I cannot afford to pay the full fees as well. Though I have taken permission to skip the inaugural session, it seems that I will have to forgo my admission as well, since I will not be able to pay the full fees before the deadline.

Hey Mayank...

Am sure, physical presence would be not be such an issue. Maybe you could contact Prof Parimal regarding your situation, in case you havn't done so already buying time.... In the meantime a letter of authority to some one whose in mumbai and can vouch for your joining the course can be sent to the institute and bank. Do speak to Parimal on the same. He should be able to help you out.

Otherwise can only suggest that you send over the docs asap in case you can... Don't think foregoing admission should be an option so early in the process...!

Congrats to all those who hav made it .. Welcome...

Would answer ur queries first...

1. On the registration - Its would be a good idea if you attend the same. It would be helpful to you in getting terms to what you can expect when you can come over here. Contact Prof Merchant in case you are not in a position to do so. ( Ringing him up would be a good idea ).

2. On the loan, SBI has a tie up with the institute and the loan is taken care of. You would recieve a loan application along with your offer letters by physical mail and would contain details of the same. It would be a good idea if you guys get in place documents required for the processing of loan right now and not wait for the letter.

Here are the list of docs -
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR LOAN:
1. ADDRESS OF PROOF
2. PHOTO-ID CARD
3. SALARY SLIPS-IN CASE WORKING
4. COPY OF PAN CARD
5. PHOTOS 2-3
6. INFORMATION OF PREVIOUS LOANS (IF ANY)M

Plus start getting your mark sheets in place. Would add to the list in case i find i have missed anything.

3. Time for processing is not much, if all docs are in place and you submit them by time, SBI does it pretty fast. When you guys come down here, you can personally meet Gore for the processing / reciepts part of it. In fact, the institute might arrange a meet for all you guys.

Pls keep posting all your queries out here...n we'll see how best we can help you... The thing is that we r a bit tied up what with our mid terms approaching...

I received email from Prof. merchant on 14th..along with 5 attachments(deatils given below)..

1) about fees break up
2)about laptop configuration
3) documents required at time of registration
4)profile data sheet and acceptance letter
5) code of conduct at Spjimr

According to mail one has to send his acceptance of offer by 15th evening(5 p.m.) via fax to number 02226237042..

later on one has to send demand draft of 35,000 Rs. in favour of S p jain institute of amnagement and research,Mumbai along with filled in Profile data sheet and acceptance letter by 19th evening..

Then 2.5 lakh have to be paid by 30th of this month and rest amount by 15th of july.....
will have to be present on 28,29 and 30 july at spjimr for registration..


I called up admission cell today regarding future course of action. Madam in the admission cell told me once the required DD are received they will be sending the hard copies of the offer letter along with loan letter ....

I asked regarding the loan from SBI andheri branch( It provides scholar loan for spjimr admits..)..she gave me number of Branch manager Mr. Girish gore(09819829817) . I tried to contact him but couldn't get through..

thats all from my side till now..

seniors waiting for help from ur side regarding loan facility..

If anyone from mumbai who is through, can go and personally contact Mr. girish gore and admission cell at Spjimr and then furnish the details it will be very helpful for all of us..

2) As we have to deposit 2.5 lacs by 30th of june and remaining amount by 15th july..how much time it will take to get loan through from SBI and whether Loan can get approved by Andheri SBI branch without reporting there initially..and what documents will be required to get the loan of 5.5 lakh???

3) whether S P Jain plays any role as facilitator in getting the loan???

2. Jan'07 batch has its registration programme on 28, 29 & 30th July. But due to project pressures I will have to fly on 1st July and will not be in a position to return until 30th of July. What should i do?

I am working in US and have got call from VGSOM for full time MBA..
If i get selected in this 1 year course, I will not be joining VGSOM but I will join this 1 year course in jan 2007.

The whole point is I have already put in my papers and company is planning to send me back to INdia....I have 3 days left at onsite....If I get selcted in this course I can take my resignation back and continue onsite.....

PLease let me know when is the result expected....and is there any way that it can be found out that I am selected or not...

Good to know that you are looking at doing an MBA and wish you all the best in this endevour.

While a 2 year MBA might not need any experience, 1 yr MBA really needs a minimum of 3-4 years to get best out of this course. I am saying this from my experience. The classes are very intense and geared towards application in real situations. While you can definitely understand this with less experience, if you have more experience you can really appreciate it better.

You should not aim for one year MBA now..
Rather u should get into two year course.

My case is I have a final call (2year full time ) from VGSOM ,IIT KGP.

Industry - IT
Total experience till june : 4.5 years.
Goal / specialisation -- not defined properly in my mind yet..its vague ..i mean in which field I want to go...i was thinking that during the 1st year of MBA in VGSOM i will decide whether I want to go in finance or come back in IT......(i am looking only for finance / IT and not marketing/hr/operations )

I am also not able to compare VGSOM (2 year full time ) with SP JAIN 1 year program.
To be honest I am also thinking that VGSOM has IIT brand and sooner or later it will be widely accepted......in 2 year course there will be more learning and I can redisover myself to realise which field I want to go (finanace or IT) .......In 1 year SPJIMR the course assumes that I am clear about the roles also i want to be in...................my aim is to be in the startegy group where critical decsions are taken..........and not just a project manager.....I am wirting all this to give a clear picture of my position as of now.......

I am very confused as to what would be good for me......pls pour in ur views.........
Financially there is no problem.....but I am concerned about my carrer growth and satisfaction......
Note: With due respect to all ,may be I sounded like a naive but the intention behind this is to take views of seniors and puys......so puys pour in ur views/comments here......

Since money is not a issue, here are couple of other pointers from my end:

Course: In VGSOM you can shift to finance/IT as indicated by you. However in SPJIMR you can only opt for IT. In this way SPJIMR is restricted
Brand: SPJIMR is better known as of today, however 2 year MBA is better branded than 1 year
Intensity: 1 year MBA is very intense compared to 2 year
Peer group: 1 year MBA has people with more work-ex hence learning from peer is high
Regaring roles/specialization you can always finalize it once you join the course. There is around 4-5 months to do this. Your peer can help you in this regard.
Lateral placement: Since you already have 4.5 years of experience you stand a better chance of lateral placement in 1year than in 2 years

You would need to weigh the above parameters on your scale and decide.

Your information is really helpful and clear. I have 5 years of IT exp. in a reputed S/W organisation. I am highly interested in doing MBA but due to lack of time I am unable to prepare for CAT. Please let me know the procedure to get into SPJain 1 year program and what would be the placements prospects based on my profile. I have done my masters in computer applications.

First of all congrats on getting admission to PGSEM course of IIMB and getting interview call for SPJain 1 year.

Here are a few points I feel you need to consider.

1) Cost of the course: PGDM is 5.5 lakhs while PGSEM is much cheaper
2) Loss of salary: For PGDM you would need to break work for 1 year since PGDM is a full time course, while PGSEM is part time
3) Brand Name: IIM brand is definitely better than SPJain
4) Work Exp of peers: Since both are for experienced professionals, there would be no much difference. However in SPJIMR for core subjects both information and operations people would be present. Hence wider scope for learning from peer
5) Placements: SPJIMR has placement at end of year, while PGSEM does not provide
6) Location: For SPJIMR you need to shift to Mumbai, while for PGSEM if you are a Bangalorean, no displacement is required.
7) Intensity: SPJIMR's course is very intense, so would be PGSEM. However in PGSEM you would be juggling between work,study,family. In SPJIMR it is just study if you are in hostel, study and family if you are put up in your own accomodation.
Currriculum: Both are almost similar however SPJIMR content is little more business oriented.

Hence you need to consider all the above aspects before you take a decision. I am currently in SPJIMR-PGDM 1 Year MBA. I opted for full time since I am married and working in a senior position in software firm(8 years of work-ex). I felt i would not be able to do justice to family, work and studies if I did part time.

It is very hot in mumbai these days (to give u some clue)
The tie part is very easy..
u bring it with u n see if junta is wearing it or u can wear it if u feel that way..

See regarding preparation , the only thing which we can be sure of is "why MBA-one yr from spjain".Everybody out there need to prepare answer to this question.

Rest nething under the sun can be asked.

And, i think they dont expect you to know each and everything.So, do u normal bit of study in different feilds like economy, Social issues and related stuff.Be confident and answer to the point.

Please note that these are my personal opinion.

So, do prepare well and all the best.
