I have multiple calls this year..And i have already got my first success in the form of FMS FT.

I wish to tell you all to follow your goal with passion and dedication. This was my third attempt. Though i had IIFT kolkata last year but the dream to be at one of the IIMs kept me going year after year. Some people thought i was insane but self belief is the key to my success. I want you to take inspiration and work for ur dream.

There are many more like me. And yes, it doesnt happen only in fairytales. People with their goal in sight succeed sooner or later.

Sometimes I seriously wish I had selective amnesia, so that I don't remember my number of CAT attempts .

Therer a plethora of reasons behind it.

However, the so-far-elusive CAT did teach me some lessons..
and I feel that I've learnt enough from those lessons

You need to keep all the CAT hush-rush at bay and start preparing for GDPI. Dont think about coming ack to this threads.... its like i have been here for 2 years... and aint a nice feeling (Well not exactly, I madde the best of prep-mates from this thread) . So, ATB for the DPIs and I hope you get multiple IIM converts! :)

but what to do about this anxiety.. I just wish that the IIMs will some out soon with their keys and all this controversy abt the re-test dies down!!!

although it appears ( sixth sense ) that i will( or may ) get 1+ call other than IIMA ABM and IIML ABM .... will have to pay 1500 to ims for xat & FMS course material and 8000 for cat achiever workshop ..( :2gunfire: IMS for such a high fee )..

Not giving CAT this year. Unlucky me!!!:( Forgot to fill the forms due to transfer from Mysore to Pune and then settling down.
1st Attempt - CAT 2004 -- Scewed It
2nd Attempt - CAT 2005 -- Screwed it much better then 2004. Didnt even touched 80 ile.
No attempt this year.

Just want to ask how to prepare for fms, xat and jmet?????

The mother of all excuses for screwing up- I was new to Bangalore and arrived late for the exam!!!
Lost my nerves big time.

Unmentionable percentiles in Quant and DI.

3rd and Final Attempt-CAT 2006- Stuck in London on an assignment- but cant resist taking CAT..so I'll be in India from 3rd Nov to 20th Nov

just joined the TIME time mocks recently for the heck of it not doing nything apart frm that ,lost my zeal for CAT now.

guyz my intro last year got 92%..for bad performance.....qa ditched big time..attempted around 23 marks got meagre 9...used to be my forte till CATalysis...neways i would like junta who hv scored decently in past di nd qa to come up with their strato for the same...u can pm me or post here..wud be highly thankful......

A very pertinent point there....however wht i wanted 2 knw is wether considering the nw well knwn proclevity of CAT 2 wards rsning is there ny other book apart frm George Summers which can be used 2 nail this sectn properly?

Well , i would suggest start with the basics,learn tables upto 30, sq,cube, sq rt, sube rt etc....Also, practice is a must as more you solve ,the faster you become.
Sove more & more puzzles esp from George Someers!!

I`ll do that.. Im decent in verbal... As I told u, last time... i had nt worked on my quant much.. in fact, not on my verbal either (but i think verbal comes naturally to me.. )
I maximised my score in DI.. and and aimed to jus clear the cut-off in quant..(in the mocks..)
But screwed up everything on the D-day..
I now realize, tht quant isnt such a big deal, which seemed nothing less than a mountain to me then..
Im working on my QUANT now.. and i m able to crack questions now.. (Im surprised i can actually do the entire exercise now!!! )

cat 2004 : 96.46 percentile
cat2005 : 96.53 percentile

didn't get any calls for two years except for some JMET calls......

I thought this section wud b appropriate 4 my doubt.
I'm a CAT repeater too., cat 05 was a disaster with 75 %, one reason wud b that i had a surgery and was out cold for most of sep and october. The other half of the blame wud go to me., 4 not being as serious as i shud hav been.
I am really focussed on getting into a good Bschool this year that I've totally not explored any other option. Not even a single serious Job try. N one of my friends who is a faculty at a well known cat coaching isnt drops a bomb on me telling me that its better to go 4 the interviews with a job in hand to show them that are more capable that just cracking CAT.
Is that really that important ? Do Freshers hav less value there ? would us dropping an year 2 prepare 4 CAT turn against us ? ??:

took CAT05, but somewhere along the line, i lost focus and screwed it BIG TIME. Hope to make CAT06 my final fruitful attempt... Jus started prep.. basically Quant..
how many of u are in the same boat as mine?
Can someone also guide me regd wht I shud work on in DI.....? I am confused...

For DI please make sure you consistently work on all the calculations and all (short cuts I mean) before your mock cats start every weekend.

And once your mock cats start make sure you work on all LR questions. CAT Test setters are now concentrating MORE on Logical Reasoning. so doing well in LR is important. Work on that as well.

Thanks 4 all the replies. I'm determined to make it into a Bschool this time., no more repeating. Bout my sitting back 4 an year ONLY 4 CAT ., well., i guess i will hav to be honest with them bout it.

The intro's in this thread are gonna keep coming in., i see that there are ppl who're takin CAT for the third of fourth time. May be u guys can tell us wat to learn 4m the previous CAT 'experience' ., discuss study strategies and our strengths as veterans in this area. Obviously its not gonna be the same preparin a study plan with the first timers. Wat say ???

see as far as i know nobody would discriminate against you for whatever reason if you are able to reach the iim interview stage

yaa if you have a good job ,you have something extra on ur CV,,and ofcourse it would help,,,but that doesnt rule out your /anybody's chance to get through iim's....and i personally feel dropping two years for cat preperation isnt called for, think logically .

hey buddy there was a senoir of mine who did not get a call last yr ..so he sat out and and worked as time faculty..(i think thats nt a big deal)...and waht he got five calls so...and he is entering in iim-l
so...dont bother try to get the best percentile

The major reason I don't have an admit from the IIMs is that I couldn't answer properly about my work because I was on the bench(my situation was a bit different and can't be explained here)

So having a job is much better in my opinion

I am an irregular repeater.

Given CAT in 2005 without any serious preparation and got best ever percentail in my CAT life. History is as below:

CAT 2002: 68 % No preparation

CAT 2003: 72% Referred CF material and slogged a lot. Solved around 50 mocks from IMS and CF without giving a damn to analysis.

CAT 2004: 91.18% Joined CL classroom course. Done group study with friends and spend significant time in analyzing mock CAT papers. Best planned effort without caring about anything else in life (personal as well as professional)

CAT 2005: 98.54% Done nothing mentionable this time. Just care-free approach while giving CAT without having any expectations .

CAT 2006: ----- Planning to join CL and CF test series.


I realised one thing: to crack CAT one has to be smart and know what you know n don`t about those 3 sections.

Let`s see......How I end up my CAT journey.

as i have started to prepare for cat from one yr before but was not as serious as i shuld be but had a good insight of cat the god...

but now as i have started to preapare for cat from the month of feb seriously...

but in the first mock cat i lost everything and had only 55percentile...
i think that for an iim (only)apirant is very bad ...started to feel that i am nt fit....:(

can u please advice waht to do and waht should have u all gone through these experiences...

I will definitely write CAT again but am not sure how much effort i will put into preparations this time. This is going to be my 4th shot at CAT.
A recap of my performances:

2002 - 93% (my first attempt - was in my final yr then)
2003 - 98.84 ( almost there )
2004 - could not write CAT as i was out of India
2005 - 94% (did prepare but underperformed on the D-day)

Well my story so far

Cat 2k3 -- Gave just like that in final year..ended up with 88 range. Was 'intoxicated' becoz of placement in Oracle..


Cat 2k4 -- Another attempt just like that..Too low percentile.

Cat 2k5 -- Prepared reasonably, gave simcats, Ended up at 97.11 and a call from IIMB. Prepared well for GD and interview.. Had a decent interview and a good GD. Finally they put me in waiting list for B , and needless to say got kicked out of it.

Cat 2k6 -- Nothing less than BLACKI
