Exam part - Smooth, glitch free.
But had to sit for an hour or so before the exam, a big bore.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
Too easy QA. Tough VA/RC.

Text highlighter was a big plus. A "Must use".

QA was very easy. Some of the questions were so simple that I had to check twice to confirm if I did something wrong in solving. Left one set of DI, as it seemed calculation intensive, rest 2 sets were doable. LR was also doable (went with a mindset of getting some tough sets in LR, so was slow in solving them). VA/RC, the party pooper for me. I thought the options were ambiguous. Did only 1 set of RC among 3. My speed was slow in section 2.

7) Any other details or something you would like to share
QA - easy. Use QA as confidence booster, do the questions, feel good. Be calm even if you aren't able to solve at first, although this doesn't seem to be a possibility in this year's CAT in QA. I came to know that sets were different even in the same slot, so it might a possibility that my QA was simpler than other sets. Can't know for sure.
DI - easy - moderate
LR was easy - moderate, all doable. The VA part was moderate - tough.
Remember, Concentration, Speed & Accuracy. (It's very important to mention here that don't get distracted & don't lose cool).

If you could attempt the paper again,what would you do differently.
I would attempt LR questions quickly and move on to the VA part sooner, try one more RC passage.

If possible wear full sleeve shirts. Use bathroom just before the start of tutorial. Don't look at girls at the start of the exam. There will be some distractions in the early phase as well as at the end.

All in all, a good experience. Time to move on.

Tips: Be clam and cool. Enjoy every moment of it. It's sure gona be one of the best moments in recent times.

I would have increased my speed and would have missed one RC and done the one set of LR that I missed.
RC were diffifult to keep pace with. Things weren't falling in place for me while doing RCs.

Subsequently when clicked the"quit test" button an error window appeared telling "Error: 462 remote server could not be traced......" then I asked the Prometric guy about this. He clicked on the window.."ok"...Then my log out window came.Again he Logged in with specific center "Username" and "password". After logging in it showed that .." Your appointment for today is over..."(something like that..).
My query(rather worry..!) is that whether my Test and my attempted questions have been registered or not....Please help me on this..!

1) How many attempts you have made? Section 1: 22 / Section 2: 26. Total 48

2) Your last mock score? AIMCAT1201 - 71. Wrote the test at a later date, hence no percentile. However, my percentiles are nothing to boast of. They range from 33 to 87.97, mainly hovering between late 60s and mid 70s.

3) How was your experience of the test? Lovely. Just that the AC was a bit too intense. I wrote the test 1 year back at the same venue. Found a few familiar faces.

4) What was the surprise element for you? Nothing as such. Read about past experiences in PG. But yes, I panicked a bit after seeing that I did just 5 sums in the first 20 mins.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? If you are not able to do a sum, move on. You will have enough sitters waiting for you. The questions are spaced beautifully. Whenever you are stuck, just move on and you'll have an easy one waiting for you.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, new topics, sections etc. Section 1 was easy to moderate to tricky (at max). Section 2 was moderate to tough. I found RCs long and difficult to understand. Left 1 set completely!

7) Any other details or something you would like to share ......also. Do not expect questions from any particular set of patterns. Do not panic!
If you could attempt the paper again,what would you do differently. I would have been a little more tension free next time. Perhaps that would have helped me to attempt 3-4 questions more in Sec 1.

there is nothing to worry about handling the exam because it is user friendly, the tutorial explains it all. And, if you have practiced mocks online you shall find it just smooth.

Paper was overall moderately tough. It had its share of easily manageable questions as well the tricky or tough ones. I didn't find anything unsual regarding the questions, just that I attempted quite less

VA- SC, PJ was Easier.. FIB--> God knows what I marked dat time.

Chill Maroo. Last me yeh topic woh topic koi farak nai parta hai.. Paper dekhne ke baad, sab ek barabar ho jata hai..
Odnt have any prejudice abt Topics or Sections.. Go with the Blank mind.. And dont Panic if starting 1 -2 quest are tough.. Just move on in them(I lost my Confidence when I saw tough one earleir and in turn made too many guess to satisfy my No of Attempts )

BASICS : at least in my paper it was all about basics
nothing flashy no phadu quations!

No Mocks. 94%ile in CAT 2010(Writing the %ile for the sake of it. Point is, don't judge my analysis based on my percentile. I am a serial CAT taker and good at analysis )

In the hall, you have to wait for atleast an hour. So, please switch of the monitor as u have to stare and concentrate for the next 3 hours on the screen. Even though, we have a habbit of staring monitor screen for long hours but unders immense pressure and striving hard for concentration it's a different game altogether.
ii) Some centres won't even allow to take your Jackets inside, plus all the halls have AC's. My suggestion is to wear a full sleeves shirt or sweat shirt. Seems not all that important but it does play a major role.

After seeing the responses of fellow puys, invariably we have the idea of the toughness of the paper. It's almost the same in every paper and it shoudn't change drastically(It can, but it shouldn't. Purely my take ).
The level was same for me too. However, below lies the core analysis that should come handy. I'll try my level best to pour in maximum without violating the 'NDA'

1) QA/DI: QA has good amount of sitters(and i repeat absolute sitters, u can't get them wrong and thus no preparation needed for the same.), moderate questions and few tough one's.
Many are worried about the so called "obsucre" topics. Don't worry guys, their no. is not very high. The tough ones are those that you really can't answer even if u start preparing few days ahead of ur exam(I did the same but of no use, even if I had knew the topic very well it would taken atleast 5 min to solve it), and about the basic ones I am sure person who is avg. in quant can attempt the same. So DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE OBSCURE TOPICS.
DI: From all the previous posts, DI is either calculation intensive or very easy. In either of the case, u can't do anything. If it's very easy you will anyhow solve it and If it's calculation intensive, u can't increase ur calculation speed in a span of 2-3 days. So, again no point in preparing DI too. Just revise basic types of DI sets, just in case u get it.

2) VA: To be very frank, I found it on the easier side. I usually do good in VA but seriously, I didn't find many ambigouos answer. Only point was RC's were tough to comprehend, but the questions were direct. Even if u have the feel of what author is talking about u can mark the correct answer. My suggestion is, don't leave the RC's just because it tough to comprehend, it might have direct questions like..what is not stated in the passage.. (I am sure we all can mark the correct answer in these type of questions). I'll not write much about the PJ's and Sentence correction as it's of no use. Level of difficult varies and their is no point giving my take on it.
Vocab: Again as I said in DI, Don't worry about VOCAB. Its pure luck, even if u have memorised 10000 words and the one's that come in CAT are not in those 10000, u can't do anything. And if u are lucky enough, with minimum vocab too u can mark the answer.
Trick/Logic in VOCAB based questions: U will have around 8 words (and it's rare that u wouldn't know the meaning of all of them ) in the answer options + the statement where u need to fill in those words. Without even lookin at the options u will have the feel of what shud come in those blanks, plus working with those options and elimination techiques, u can mark the correct answer. Again the point is, Dont worry about VOCAB, at this point of time u can do nothing about it.
LR: It has been easy for almost all the dates and the all the slots.(And again, it shouldn't change much. Again purely my take, it might change).
Just solve 1-2 basic LR of each type and that's it, just to be in touch of it.

BASIC POINT: STOP WORRYING ABOUT VOCAB, DI OR OBSCURE TOPICS IN QUANT. U CAN DO VERY WELL EVEN WITHOUT THESE.
BASIC POINT 2: JUST PLAY TO UR STRENTHGS & SOLVE ALL THE EASY QUESTIONS.

I have tried to base my analysis irrespective of the DATE, SLOT or the PERSON giving the exam. It took me 50 minutes to write this, even if it helps 5 people out there, I will consider my work done :).

NA, Just make sure u don't sit in the hall too early, DRINK and PEE JUDICIOUSLY before starting ur exam.

QA: Did 22 qns , I won't say it was easy coz it was tricky enough, things that didn't came till date made a modest appearance in my paper...Read: Things which every1 fear..can't disclose anything more!!
DI: Not too calculation intensive all were doable, but some filthy qa topics were there to counter ur DI happiness
LR: too easy to believe All the sets were fairly doable without eating too much of your time
VA: My Strength, but still I preferred to leave some PC's and SC's as most of the time they turn out to be foes than friends!
RC: Moderate- Doable

Tips: Be Calm and composed, do not swayed off by the number of attempts your friend made or people on PG, U know ur strengths and weaknesses best, so perform accordingly, and as said umpteen times Accuracy is the key!

VA- this is the part that will decide the fate of everyone this time. it was ambiguous with standard cat questions. the RCs were tough with close options. most people just go for more attempts but that will bring them down as accuracy matters much more.

just keep your cool guys & u ll do fine. the test is easy as such. this year will be remembered as the one during which THE CAT became easy. it is nowhere close to CAT 2008. the WOW factor is gone. they are moving towards the GMAT pattern.

A precious tip: solve the verbal sections of CAT 2005 to 2008. it will take u places...

I had marked a question as a guess, then while calculating again I found a mistake, was just about to come to an answer when my time got over and the wrong choice was submitted. So remember to uncheck any answer you are not sure of, just MARK it instead :)

Nice.. Just wanted to look it as another mock. Quant was very easy as I was weak in it ,RC was really ambiguous And I am stilll Not sure in one of the RC what they expected from US.

Too Easy quant All the questions were very basic even the DI was quite straight

There are too many doable ques in quant , just remember this fact.

QA/DI: Too easy.. All the ques were doable , there was only one Qs which i left bcz i was missin the concept and i m not too gud at Quant , so you can urself make out. Even I think 1 Q was wrong.
LR: I found all of them easy , Yeah in one of them you need to have good concentration.
VA: standard(not my strength), as u have been hearing over past days. The problem with Question Such as FIB and sentence usage is that options are so close that you need to know the minutest of detail about each word . PC & PJs , I think was doable , and options in one of the PJ helped.
RC: standard<->tough

QA-- Easy to Moderate..! well.. it was my nemesis in CAT 09 and 10.. bt i found it pretty easy this time around.. Many sitters are there, u just have to make sure u dont miss them.. it was a good mix of easy, moderate nd few difficult ques.. Any well prepared folk would surely do well in such a paper.. !!
DI-- Moderate-- No real tough calculations.. this has always been my strong area.. so i found it extremely easy.. any1 with good speed nd fast calculations can solve all the ques with 100% accuracy..!
LR-- Easy-- nothing surprising here.. was easy as expected.. u all can nail it..!!
VA-- Moderate to tough-- well.. this was the most challenging section.. RC's were ambiguous, hard to comprehend and really tough to read.. No easy ques at all in RC's.. Rest was moderate stuff.. it was doable but not easy..
P.S.-- VA is my strongest area.. Got 97-98%ile in Both CAT09 and 10.. bt still i found it difficult..!!
Overall 24-25 attmpts with 80% accuracy should be enough in QA-DI and 26-28 ques with around 75% accuracy should be enough for VA/LR..!!

Well.. After attempting CAT 3 times, therz one thing that i have learned.. no matter how hard u prepare, no matter how mch time u have invested, at the end of it all, it all comes down to how strong u r mentally to perform on D-Day.. So just be confident, have faith in urself and go with one line in ur mind 'I can Do This'.. !! ....

Too ambiguous RC qns

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Nop... Interface similar to cl, time(mix the good features)+RC highlighting

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
QA/DI: Too easy.. Did 27 qns in 45-50 min, 1 probably wrong qn, still attempted
LR: 2 easy, 1 doable
VA: standard(not my strength), as u have been hearing over past days. Even i felt I saw a couple of Qns which had come in CL mock, still cudnt attempt, as I had probably not attempted it then and didnt even see for it then..
RC: standard<->tough
7) Any other details or something you would like to share ......also
3 hot chicks on my front, facing me, n 1 of them being my ex-neighbour, whom,I had not seen for past 2 yrs Required lots of self-control at start.... Hell of a distraction towards end, n surely may have cost me 4 qns of RC, which I couldn't decide between 2 options(un-ticked those in end):-(

Tips: Just be cool...
There is nothing u can do in last moment. Just chill and go to njoy on, u will njoy..

If you could attempt the paper again,what would you do differently.
Would have asked for a seat change or maybe never would have turned my head up for last 25min. Once concentration breaks, its too hard to bring it back, especially with those ambiguous RCS


Now that the CAt is over, its time for chilling out without any tensions.. Already starting to miss those 5months of preparations 4 CAT... Whether I get selected or not, (depends on my accuracy in verbal n RC),it was an amazing experience :)
