it cannot be predicted as of now. and this has been addressed a lot many times... We do not know what Normalisation is and how they give the percentile. so for now, chillax, and prepare for any other exam.. else enjoy..

I found Sec 1 difficult. Some said it was easy, my heart sank.
Most ppl said there were 2 wrong questions in section 1,if its wrt Venn, then the questions were correct.
I prepared number systems only(as i thought i knew others), which did show up, but i think i missed on3-4 on normal topics. Please do go through surds,logarithms etc.

I normally do really well in DI, but i managed only 3 questions today.

VA,5-6 questions had too close options, spent last 20 mins on them, marked only 2.

In my centre, no breaks were allowed. Proctors did not allow people to start test immediately after finishing tutotrial, so all of us started almost at the same time.
In section 1, use the mark option to the fullest. Do not get stuck on any question, come back if time permits. Note that time flies in this section, esp if you are avg in Quant.

Those having test tomorrow, please do not read anything now. Sleep.

glitch free.no problems at all.found the proctors extremely helpful,guided through each step.very important for ppl giving cat for the 1st time like me :)

sec 1: found QA on the easier side.DI was also not calculation intensive.time management and speed is the key.for someone quick with calculations it is possible to attempt all 30 questions
sec 2: Rc's were quite understandable though ques were tricky.LR was simple though one LR set was a little ambiguous

Yaar..this is tricky. People are calling the test to be easy but don't completely rely on it as people have memories of only those questions which they were able to solve. In my opinion , easy questions were really easy but difficult questions were meant to be difficult. You will get at least 6-7 sitters but after that you have to earn your score..! :nono:

Eat properly before exam..I almost had a bad attack of hunger in between the second section

Another thing, when i logged in from my computer i was shocked, my name did not display on the screen. (Heartbeat crossed 72*2). Then they searched for my name and then i was moved to correct seat. (Back to 72).

I have not applied to any specific institute till now. With this marks, is there any chance of getting into Level 2 institutes. (coz i am not sure i will clear cut-off for top B-schools). Can somebody guide me, where all to apply.

CAT Centre, Date and Slot: IBSAR, Belapur, Navi Mumbai. Afternoon slot. Was supposed to start at 3:15 PM, I think started maybe 5-10 minuted behind schedule.

1) How many attempts you have made and also mention the accuracy level. Section 1 - 24 attempts. Section 2 - 27 attempts. Overall 51 attempts. Accuracy, I don't know man. I did all I could to answer those 51 questions. Lets wait and watch, I guess I'll find out how accurate I was on the 11th of January.

2) Your last mock score? If you are there at http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...ry-2011-a.html (Mock scores repository 2011) , please provide the link here. - Mock CAT scores horrendous. Beyond belief really. Highest percentile was 88.xx in a TIME AIMCAT.

3) How was your experience of the test? - Glitch-free. Reached the test center with plenty of time to spare. All the people present there were ushered in after some time. Usual registration followed. Was escorted to my computer.

4) What was the surprise element for you? - I have been following this particular thread that discusses candidates' experiences when attempting CAT. I have found that the level of difficulty in QA and DI gradually went north as the days progressed. I was a bit tense about that. But I felt happy knowing that there were only 6 questions I couldn't attempt.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? - If you can read this, then most likely you know how to use a computer But on a serious note, to all the puys who still have to give the test, please ensure that you don't accidentally kick either the CPU or the power socket.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam: Toughness, new topics, sections etc. - If you base it on purely the level of difficulty of the questions , particularly in Section 1 , then you might say it was a moderate paper. Time management is the key here.

Section 2 is interesting. There are absolutely insane questions!!! But if you stay calm and use pure common sense there's no reason why you can't breeze through the LR and even some verbal ability questions. I personally feel I got lucky with regards to RC's because 2 out of the 3 were excerpts that I was familiar with. The third one was tricky.

If you ask me which section was more difficult, I'll have to say VA was slightly tougher than Section 1. LR was like being a kid in an ice-cream parlour on a saturday afternoon.

7) Any other details or something you would like to share - Well, this was my first attempt at CAT and while I didn't get caught in all the hype at the beginning, I did get nervous few days leading up to the exam date. I think its unbelievable how much you can achieve by just staying calm and composed. I'd like to wish all the puys who're yet to appear for CAT all the very best. Give it your very best. I'd also like to thank all the people here particularly the active users in the Official Quant Section. I suck at quant if I'm being honest with you - and that thread did really help me. I'd like to name two users in particular - " ThinkAce " and " Culdip ". Thanks a lot guys.

RCs needed focused effort but very much solvable.

Sec 1: this section is not easy. it is at par with Simcat level(with some 3-4 sitters thrown in)
Sec 2: not very tough. definitely not more difficult than CL mocks. RCs are not out of this world and one can do them if s/he has practiced well with mock tests.

EXPERIENCE : I found it to be on the tougher side..QA had many sitters..nd some tough nuts too.
DI was much easier than i had expected it to be but it was irritating..
I have never attempted an easier set of lr..
Much to my expectations, VA was the toughest...
all in all, speed is the key factor in section 1...nd accuracy in section 2.

There is no topic specific.... u can revise quant formulae....n cn practise sum calculation based dI ques jus to b in flow.In Verbal u can try sum gud reading stuff not only to understand but to comprehend too...

Exactly...Even i found paper in this slot difficult. And even few questions were different in both section in the same slot...

QA& DI- 19 attempts
VA& LR- 24 attempts

RC was comprehensible but 1 RC options were too close so left that RC


Maths was managable with clarity in basic concept... so puys if you are taking exam after this be sure your basic should be clear..

DI was bit calculation oriented..

LR was moderate level.

Smooth, glitch free and neatly done. Perfect is the word.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
I never thought that we would be provided with such large spaces. I mean there were no card-board movable boxes. In fact the wooden chamber was spacious.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Not really. But yes, if time permits and you have paper do write extensive notes from RC. It helped me as the questions are inferential/analytical in nature as well. (@MODs: Hope this is not violating NDA.)


6) Your overall analysis of the exam: Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
QA: If you are fast in calculation and can picturize things, you would sail as a boat downstream. The catch here is EGO. Never let a question govern you, move on if you are down. You will get a chance to crush it back at the end. Verdict: Easy

DI: A bit of reverse engineering may save you ages. But yes, conventional methods are time consuming. But again, no question can be termed tough if the clock is not ticking.:)
Verdict: Doable

LR: BOOM! That was as beautiful as a Dravid square cut is. Neat, pure and designed after a good amount of effort. But it can be time consuming and heartbreaking if you do not write everything and test all the options over the possibilities.
I repeat, write and crosscheck the options closely.
Verdict: Tricky and hence moderate
RC: They were readable. And if given proper attention and time honestly, can be done. By honestly I mean reading thoroughly even for one time (and not eating a line here and there as we do). You do not need a word, you need to grasp the passage.
Verdict: Moderate
VA: Not really tough but yes, this may be a heart-breaker or a merry-maker depending upon how good you are at it. Similar to the mocks.
Verdict: Moderate to tough

Finally, in VA if you are good, you are good. In others even if you are not good, you may turn out victorious on the D-Day.

None really, would just repeat a wise saying "Do what you can do best at the given time. Past records can be compared and talked about later."

I have been most inconsistent at mocks, varying from lower 50s to 91 at one time :P

Good, I gave CAT once before in 2009 and I must say, Prometric has gotten much better in 2 yrs. The entire process was smooth, glitch-free and well-managed.

Quant has always been my nemesis, my number of attempts says it all But it was do-able this time. That kinda surprised me

More surprising was verbal, it was definitely not straight forward. Found it tricky, understanding the question was not tough, but answering was

Don't start the 2nd section immediately after the 1st. Take that tiny break, rest your eyes a little and resume Also, staring at the screen during the waiting period doesnt help one bit

Do grab some good sleep on the night before, you'll need your mind at an all-time high alert.

I do wish i'd made more attempts in Quant. All those ppl whose strength is quant, it'd be like whipped cream
No new topics, everythin that you'd probably have covered while studying basics. DI was fantastic, perfect blend of 1 easy, 1 moderate and 1 difficult set. By difficult I mean it required lots of time and needed pondering.

LR had one tough set but the other questions were fun to do. Verbal, as I already said, was surprisingly on the tougher side. I generally do verbal with ease but this needed thinking. RCs again were mix of 1 easy, 1 moderate and 1 difficult.

This was my first serious attempt at CAT and I enjoyed the process. This attempt may not take me to my dream school but it has definitely put me on the way Now i know what everyone meant when they said 'respect the exam' . I second that without doubt. Hats-off!!

spent 32 minutes on LR , 2 passages was horrible , not that happy but expect scaling from prometric and iims.

DI was easier but calculation intensive and one set of LR in forst section (Sort of) and was difficult.

QA-18-19 (Almost correct) VA-24-25 (Can't comment on accuracy) I am screwed this year I guess. So less attempts
2) Your last mock score? Hovering around 90, few 95+ %tile
3) How was your experience of the test?
Well managed. I had a jacket on and was feeling the heat but couldn't take it off during the exam :-(
4) What was the surprise element for you?
QA - Mixed with sitters there were a few tough ones, nothing moderate. Wasted time which hampered my attempts.
5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? NO.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam: Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
Only few topics were touched in my QA section and my weakest section was prevalent Couldn't attempt one DI set due to lack of time but rest 2 were easy.
VA was moderate including RC. Very much manageable.
LR - Two sets were cakewalk but one- boy it was tough and I couldn't do it.

Ok, now listen up. After i came out of the center i met a guy who told me there were two sets - 1 in LR and one in DI which had appeared in previous slots and he knew the answers to them as soon as he read the first few lines. I was taken aback. Outrageous!! Abiding to NDA means you will lose out like this? What is the point of all this then? This is cheating. I am
The online exam may make things easy for the IIM guys but it surely puts a handful of people at an advantage to others.
I so much want the one-for-all exam to be back. Be it online or paper format.

2) Your last mock score? Aimcat 1201 132 marks (shaayad) taken in missed mode.
3) How was your experience of the test? The best experience one can have
4) What was the surprise element for you? This type of confidence I never felt in my life.:biggrin::biggrin:
5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? Guys Still need it. I FELT.
6) Your overall analysis of the exam: Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
1. QA not at all easy. Not got even 1 sitter. Jo banne wale the wo 2 mint me ban ja rahe the. Some tough questions.literally , got struck in 2 such question. Attempts - 14-15/21 Accuracy 100%:):-(:):-(
2. DI It was very easy for me, but tricky/calculation intensive. Options were not close that was relaxing. Attempts- 8 out of 9 question. CAN BET FOR 100% ACCURACY.
3. LR 1 set was ok but the other set. OMG! Never saw such a set anywhere. Only seven questions were there, It was my surprise element. Felt bad..this was my best section. Attempts - 4 out of 7 qustions. Accuracy 100%:-(:-(
4. VA- (I am not the right person) I felt it was ok, at least better than last year. Except SC question and one tough questions of Para completion, was thik thak. Attempts - 12 out of 13. Accuracy no comments.:nono::nono::nono:
5. RC For me it was ok. PASSaGE SAMAJH AA RAHE THE. 1 RC Passage was very tough but manageable with easy questions. Two other were same level but very close options. Attempts 7-8 out of 10. Accuracy-no comments:nono::nono::nono:
7) Any other details or something you would like to share
1. Mere aas paas koi ladki nahi thi..so no disturbance

2. Cozy/comfortable center (better than last year) 7 Mints bike ride.
3. CAT is all about Intelligence/slight practice.:cheerio:: DONT go to coaching anymore. Do basics and stay updated with the pagalguy threads. :sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:
4. They have developed very good testing techniques, fast & reliable. Rest assured!


TIME is changing and CAT is improving day by day.year by year. Last year while solving DI questions I felt I am solving a badly photocopied figures but this year it was DAM clear and NEXT button was working like makkhan.:):):)

QA/DI- 28 VA/LR- 30 , i dunno the number of attempts look too high now dat i look at them. in the aimcats i generally get around51-52 attempts with 80% accuracy. hope da accuracy doesnt dip with the increased attempts

112 in AIMCAT - 1 ...roughly 99%ile i guess
3) How was your experience of the test?
overall ok but the 8:30 to 10:00 am time is not the most pleasant in the world

Section I was either 2 easy or i messd up

None needed

QA/DI ---QA extremely easy........so was the DI....only way u can go wrong is by making silly mistakes, very minimal scope for conceptual errors
VA/LR ---LR was easy mostly .... RC's seemed moderate to me but surprisingly VA was extremely tough and 2 options seemed correct in a large number of questions

Others might do well to not get 2 excited and control their number of attempts especially in Section II

QA/DI- 28 VA/LR- 28 QA should be good.. i heard some one say it was tricky.. i found it straightforward... so some i chance i screwed up .. any case wont get less than 21 right in QA...I am praying for VA/LR accuracy

QA/DI --- QA easy.. any engineer should get 15-18 right without even preparing...DI.. 1 set was super simple... 1 was moderate...1 was calculation intensive.. missed tricks if any..
VA/LR ---LR was moderate .... couldnt get 1... Found VA tough.. i am usually good at VA..

No need to study anything... not sure preparation would help.. just go and perform there....all basics

Section 1: 24 attempts (around 22 shd b correct)
Section 2: 25 attempts (20+ should b correct).

Quant was easy, DI was tricky.
Verbal was moderate, LR was easy.

There are some different questions in each set, i am not sure if the difficulty level differs among the sets in a particular slot.
