I have been most inconsistent at mocks, varying from lower 50s to 91 at one time :P

Good, I gave CAT once before in 2009 and I must say, Prometric has gotten much better in 2 yrs. The entire process was smooth, glitch-free and well-managed.

4) What was the surprise element for you?

Quant has always been my nemesis, my number of attempts says it all But it was do-able this time. That kinda surprised me

More surprising was verbal, it was definitely not straight forward. Found it tricky, understanding the question was not tough, but answering was

Don't start the 2nd section immediately after the 1st. Take that tiny break, rest your eyes a little and resume Also, staring at the screen during the waiting period doesnt help one bit

Do grab some good sleep on the night before, you'll need your mind at an all-time high alert.

I do wish i'd made more attempts in Quant. All those ppl whose strength is quant, it'd be like whipped cream
No new topics, everythin that you'd probably have covered while studying basics. DI was fantastic, perfect blend of 1 easy, 1 moderate and 1 difficult set. By difficult I mean it required lots of time and needed pondering.

LR had one tough set but the other questions were fun to do. Verbal, as I already said, was surprisingly on the tougher side. I generally do verbal with ease but this needed thinking. RCs again were mix of 1 easy, 1 moderate and 1 difficult.

7) Any other details or something you would like to share -

This was my first serious attempt at CAT and I enjoyed the process. This attempt may not take me to my dream school but it has definitely put me on the way Now i know what everyone meant when they said 'respect the exam' . I second that without doubt. Hats-off!!

Sec-1: 23 (made a blunder in a DI set on SETS(one on percentages, 50 lakh people subscribing/reading somethin), I people reading ONLY one of the papers to be 0 in the 1st question of the set, it ws thr in the option also. Can anyone confirm it ???? It can cost me 3 life saving questions )
Sec-2: 30 (LRs should all be correct, even RCs should be of good accuracy, rest I am just hoping and praying for good accuracy)

It was pretty smooth

Geometry was pretty less in QA, I was banking a lot on it..

QA- I would say it was moderate because some scoring topics like geometry were less and some calculation intensive topics on algebra were more, but anyone can easily attempt 15 ques right with no preps and in no time (like me..). I started with a bang did 1st 6 ques in 6 mins, later gt stuck badly on some ques and took it ot my ego to solve them as they were from my fav topics like progressions and all and could nt solve it till the end.. People hre r sayin its wrng perhaps (page nos question)

DI was also moderate : 2 sets were slightly calculation intensive, one on sets was easiest in whc i myt hv done blunder in reading the ques, took all percentages of 50 lakh only, later heard some ppl saying percentages were given of diff value.

LR : It was abs easy... jst attempt with cool

RCs : were moderate, all were comprehensible and even ques were OK

Rest all of VA was also moderate, did not make any random guess so just hoping on having high accuracy in VA to save this season....

Keep ur cool... paper is if not easy its not even tough, just avoid doing silly mistakes even if your no of attempts are slightly less..

Hey dude i think u didnt make any blunder. I also got the answer of the first question as 0.

I seriously doubt whether any thing like Normalization is really out there or is just a gimmick. 20 different days double the no. of slots and even a single slot throws different questions. One needs to have quite Good P & C to even understand the no. of Possibilities, leave alone the Normalization.

Normalisation will play a big role this time around and with best normalisation tool available with Prometric there will surely be a scenario where 90 percentilers of two diff day or even 2 diff slots will have significant marks difference . And with tempting section-1 and teasing section-2 no one can do depiction except the IIM .
Anyways, i am also looking for same answer even though i know that this question cant be answered before you get it from them

Appeared for 14th Nov Evening slot, I seriously feel that the section 1 was a mix of Sitters and moderate with very few difficult questions and definitely dominant were sitters. A little careful question picking was the key. Picked 1 liner or 2 liners questions first most of them were easy. Log & quadratic questions were absolute sitters. Comparing nos. and a question on finding remainder, a very basic question on Surds were very much doable. I believe accuracy can be a complete game changer.

Now when the exam is over the pressure that was piling up specially since last few days before the exam is gone giving way to another predicament and that is equally hounding it is which B Schools should be applied to.

If someone can show me the way, I would be very thankful.

Yeah I too feel, rather sure, that sets subsets ques is wrong... Prb is checking and re checking it made a mess of time managmnt..

they provide you with a set of plain sheets.. which has i guess more than 10 pages.. n they are normal paper like the one's used for print out.. n they provide u 2 pencils with an eraser.

8 pages that form a booklet .. enuf i beleive !

QA: not impressed by the quality of questions.....most required just simply doing what is asked step by step ....very few questions required thinking or application of concepts....
DI: a good mixture: 1 easy, 1 medium and 1 difficult set

LA: moderate.....not a cakewalk but not too hard also

VA: accuracy in this section is going to be the decisive factor.....many had very close options....have attempted all...now just hoping the strategy wont backfire

Passport is a valid proof. They dont check the address. The photo should be a recent one(mine had a school photo) and the name should match. Carry 2 proofs as a precaution.

EXPERIENCE : I found it to be on the tougher side..QA had many sitters..nd some tough nuts too.
DI was much easier than i had expected it to be but it was irritating..
I have never attempted an easier set of lr..
Much to my expectations, VA was the toughest...
all in all, speed is the key factor in section 1...nd accuracy in section 2.

take a break after the 1st section..and don let the performance of the 1st section bother you..keep a watch on the ticker ...time will FLY

Hey my centre isnt at IBSAR but my colg is besides it! u can geet an auto frm belapur station. they have share autos. u can share it with any DY Patil colg ppl! u'll also find space for parking! not a prob! best of luck

2) Your last mock score? Aimcat 1201 - 105 (dunno the %ile..had given the test on7th nov (second window).. 97-98%ile i think) my mock scores range - %ile..

3) How was your experience of the test? great..enjoyed the exam..arrangements were perfect..kudos to prometric for such flawless management..

4) What was the surprise element for you? easy QA..another was an RC based on my favorite book (my most favorite h'wood movie as well )..it made my day..

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? - As already suggested earlier, don't stare at the screen for too long before the exam..

6) Your overall analysis of the exam: Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
QA - it had many sitters..but there were interspersed with few moderate to tough level questions..Quant gurus would have made a killing here ! Most topics were covered but not all..
one suggestion - cover all topics.. solve atleast some basic level questions in your weak areas..
DI - Out of three sets, 2 were quite doable..3rd one was tough..left 2 questions there..
LR - piece of chocolate cake for sure..
VA - RCs were moderate (understandable atleast) but the questions were tough with very close options..PCs, SCs and FIBs were also tough..PJs, word usage and sentence deletion - easy..
one suggestion - no need to hurry in this section..u would get enough time for VA as LR is a squib..

7) Any other details or something you would like to share - nothing else..'just be basic !' is the motto from my side for this level of exam..

Just one thing to one and all bhaiyas and thr behnas " jo ho gya , so ho gya " ...Even if ques was wrng people above us will look at that in much bettr prospect than all of us here....try to forget those questions and come up with better performance in other coming entrances.....
For one who thinks what to do if question is wrong--- I do agree probability of getting woring question is 1/30 ....try to work out for rest 29 ......dont get muddled on wrong question taking it on your ego, just leave it and march ahead.....1/30 is nothing against 29/30

i just walked in to write the test for the heck of my family this year with out any preps as i have decided to go the gmat way ..
so i was pretty much calm through out the test...

How many attempts did you made?
Section 1 - 30 (accuracy 85-90%)
Section 2 - 26 (accuracy - will find out on the result day, hope for the best) :

Your last mock score: Gave very few mocks, percentile varied from 90-99. Didn't give 1201.

Experience of the test: As smooth as a hot knife through butter. Glitch free, though the guards doing the frisking were a little annoying.

Surprise element for you in the test: VA part of Section 2 was tricky and confusing. Moreover, I guess the no. of VA questions in section 2 was high, RC+LR were relatively low. Expected lesser VA, and more RC/LR.

Tips to handle computer based exams better: Well, shouldn't be a problem anyhow. The wait is going to be long before the exam. You might as well take a 15-20 min nap. Wash your face, drink water and start the test.

Overall analysis:
Section 1: Easy to moderate difficulty. DI sets were doable. In Quant - Lots of sitters to grab hold of. Some were on the difficult side, but if you are fast, you would had time to solve these in the end. Topics were covered pretty handsomely.
Section 2: RCs were doable. One was difficult. VA, well i am not the right person to say here , but i found it on the difficult side. LR was easy.

Other details/ something you would like to share:
Go with an open mind. Put on a headphone on your way to the center. Listen to some masti songs.
Basics are all you need, nothing fancy or hardcore. For QA, pick easier ones first, then move on to moderate and difficult. If you are fast at calculations, a great advantage.
And for QA gurus, one small suggestion, try to keep your egos in pockets. If you can't solve a question move ahead, solve it later. Almost made this mistake, but recovered pretty quickly.

Well I appeared during the morning slot on the 14th and as I have mentioned earlier, the QA,DI and LR questions cannot get too simpler from what were asked in the exam and also i don't think there were any wrong answers or double correct optioned questions in the paper if anyone wants to contest dis point , he/she may pm me dat mite help me find out my oown miostakes too

No, it wasnt...If you had solved through options, you wouldnt taken much time. Dunno what formula could have been used to calculate it by the conventional method

Puys,I feel there were 3-4 wrong questions.. But how do we disclose that, now that we have abided to NDA, we are not suppose to even discuss those out here.. Moreover, i spent 10 minutes on a question to conclude it as wrong.
How does normalization justify all this?

Considering there are few ppl who are weak in basics and might think that the question could have been wrong(as their formula dint match), but after reading the thread, i feel many ppl feel the same... and the reality could be there were actually wrong questions..

But in that case you should select the question which is close to being the right option.. or just leave it!

Morning Slot, Mumbai.

I was glad that i was able to identify which questions can be attempted, so managed my time lot well.

Quant+DI :- Solved 19 with 85-90% Accuracy. There were no sitter, need to have fundas in place. DI two sets were simple and calculative.

RC+LR :- Solved 17 With 80-85% Accuracy. I went through LR first, but felt it would be quite time consuming so left it out, was managed to solve one any ways with elimination of options. RC topic, i was quite familiar, the trick was not to attempt all the questions. Para Completion can be narrowed down to two options. Rest VA was manageable.

I just felt, rather than other slots till date, the main point here was to leave what is time consuming, seems most of them have managed to solve around 40 in this slot.
