Very smooth.. kudos to prometric .. although they had me remove everything including caps, jacket, hankerchief (yes its true :shock:)

4) What was the surprise element for you?
VA. It was mind boggling. Questions weren't that tough in fact they were pretty much easy. But 2 out of 4 option were simply unresolvable .. damn close options.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
If you have written a considerable number of mocks, that should make things easy for you.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
Quant - Very simple. many sitters and even though i was very weak in quant, it is the section i am most confident of clearing.
Verbal - Tough. I felt RCs were easier than the verbal ability part. however the options just made me pull my hair. every ques out of 20 had damn close options (2 in each case) i was able to reject/eliminate 2 options straight forward but there was a battle for remaning 2. it was actually tougher than any mock i eevr gave and this is when i thought VA to be my strong point (never got below 98%ile in any mock till date)

DI- easy to moderate. despite the long RC type caselets the actual questions were very very easy. however there was a particular caselet of 3 ques which i think was not to be attempted :banghead:. for any1 who dint attempt that particular set, it would have beeen a cake-walk to attempt the remaining 17 ques correctly and easily in 40-45 mins. I lost my time there only and ended up wasting 15 mins on it and then finally not being able to attempt even 1 out of the 3 ques . its was just selection of questions.

7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us.
Just keep your cool during the examination. Dont get stuck up with a single question. Be patient throughout ur examination. there have been rumors about wrong ques/options, i feel its true (there was 1 ques in Quant of which i am sure the options were wrong) keep this in mind and dont waste ur time on ques which u think are wrong.

DI- Difficult. Some table question sets were extremely hard to solve. Skipped those. However some logical reasoning questions were really easy.
VA- Moderate. PJs, 3 RC, Fill in blanks etc. Regular questions. Some questions had confusing options. :lookround:

Similar to everyone - DI Devote more time if possible.

Easy questions might be hidden at the end of the section. So do not stuck on any difficult question. There is no award for answering difficult question.

DI- As usual, my first section! I was expecting almost no or very few questions from LR but the case was different today, around 6-7 questions on LR which i always love to solve and solved them easily!!!Though some questions were like RC passages and contained only one question, good concentration gives answer in first read only!!Solved one DI caselet which had 3 questions !!!

QA-This was the easiest of all.... i must say.. managed to complete it within 40 minutes with above 95% accuracy...( i hope so:cheers:)


VA- Weakest section!!
Quite confused in first RC (had 4 questions in it), but then moved on !!! PJs, multiple usage were mixed in each other!!At the end, mismanaged 20 minutes, tried to solve some quant but at the end, solved only 2 from DI!!!
Overall, tension hai thoda!!!

My mock scores were between 85-96 and the fluctuation was due to my score in VA.

Exam was conducted in a professional manner and I think that the supervisors were trained for these tests.

Practice.

QA - My strongest section.Started with it and I did 15 questions on a go. Could have attended more. This section was very easy. I am sure 13 of them are correct.

DI -Eventhough it was not lengthy, this section ate my time. I did 16 questions and I am sure 13 of the them are correct.

VA - Well, this is my weakest section and the options were confusing. It took some time for me to understand the options:banghead:. I am keeping my fingers crossed. PJ questions were a tough nut to crack.

DOn't worry abt the result. Just think of CAT as an AIMCAT/SIMCAT. Probably, you will feel that the paper is easy when compared to the MOCK CATs'

varied between 80 to 103. ( thats my score) Percentile 90 to 94 in the last few aimcats.

Quant - Very simple. But felt i could have attempted a couple of questions more.
Verbal - Moderate. I felt RCs were easier than the grammar part. The parajumbles were fine, though.
DI- Moderate to tough. One needed to have loads of patience to solve this section. I thought i ll spend around 40 mins and come bak to Quant,( quant being the first section i attempted). But couldn't make it. Questions were very lengthy. One line graph was very hazy.

Just keep your cool during the examination. Dont get stuck up with a single question. Be patient throughout ur examination. Specially ppl who attempt DI at the end.

Had my CAT exam today Finally, details :-

CENTRE- EILM Kolkota , time 3:30 pm.
Last Mock- 99.08%ile in CL Proc 7
Profile- Fresher- first attempt

Questions attempted-
QA- 15
DI- 12/13
VA- 17 (this is my strong section, still many guesses included)
OA- 44/45

Overall the paper wasn't difficult, though verbal was very tricky and many options were very very close. DI had some bouncers, had to be clever enough to leave them. Quant was extremely easy- I could have done more but this was my last section and i had only 40 mins left.

My take on cut-off (notwithstanding the normalisation)
DI- 9/10 net correct
QA- 14/15 net correct
VA- 12 net correct
OA- 35 net correct should get a 99 %ile IMO.

Exam was conducted smoothly without any glitches. The only surprise element was the verbal section as I expected it be easier than this. The other 2 sections were as easy as expected.
Hope they do fair normalisation this time so that we all get what we deserve, next IIFT for me!

My first post of my last season.

4) What was the surprise element for you? Nothing at all. Read enough on PG to expect anything out of that 135 minute.

Toughness
DI: It was like any other mock. slightly easier side. Most of the caselets were having 2-3 questions. Only 2 or 3 singletons. 2-3 questions were calculation intensive. Rest were straightforward.

Quant: Was simpler than any of the mocks I have encountered in past 3 years. 12-13 sitters. 3-4 good questions.

English: The toughest section and certainly the surprising element of the paper. Going through PG I was observing that the difficulty of this section was relatively moderate across days and slots , but frankly speaking - I got stumped!
RCs were lengthy- 4Q (Moderate read, tough questions due to tricky(options), 3Q & 2Q (Easy-moderate read, Easy - moderate. questions)

Verbal ability- Horrendious 11 questions. Call it a make or break part of the paper or TRICKY part. But, yes, you cant be sure on more than 2-3 questions out of 11.
Para completion + jumble - 2 & 3Q resp. (Tricky, one can not bore down any question to 1 option.)

Homophones - 2 Questions - Moderate to tough.

Fill in the blanks - 2 Questions - Close options, Moderate - tough

Word Usage - 1 Question. One never knows with these questions
Grammar - 1 Question - Easy.

The way I did it

First 50 minutes - Could attempt 14 in DI/LR. Wasted 10 minutes on an LR set without solving it (though it wasn't tough).
Next 50 minutes - VA + RC - Attempted 19 (too high an attempt, but if I only had to makr the ones on which I am sure at, my attempt would have been less than 10)
Next 28 minutes - Quant. Solved 20, with a modicum of calculated guesswork.
Next 7 minutes - Solved 3 more in DI/LR.

Accuracy and score expected, on the basis of my discussion with others.
Quant - 15C 5W = 40
DI -14C 3W= 39
VA/LR ~11-12C ~7-8W = 25-29

Overall ~105-110+

My take on cut-offs for 95%ile sectional, 99% overall (without taking normalization into account)
DI: 32-35
Quant: 35-38
VA: 24-26

Overall 105-110

4) What was the surprise element for you? The questions were unlike previous years Cat. In itself the question were not tough but due to the time consideration and from uncommon topics made it different.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? Solve mocks or read e-books to get your concentration levels high. Your eyes really are the real loosers in this sort of format.

Again I want to say on its merit the questions were all doable but with time restriction the game changes.
QA- Easy real easy...but not from the common topics it thus it became lengthy because the not so common topics were abundant. Basic questions 5-6 sitters... rest all moderate..just need to apply basic Concepts Easy to moderate
DI/LR i messed this section up could only attempt 8-10 questions ... Lengthy to say the least but attempted around 4 easy Lrs..2 easy Di's with simple calculation and another 2-3 DI line graph which required observation only.Moderate to difficult(too lenghty)
VA My strong section hit me hard the options were too close in Rc else it was pretty ok. If my accuracy is good here i expect at least 27-30 correct OA. Moderate(Rc's wont give you confidence you would always be sceptical about this section no clear cut answers
7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us.Atleast 1 week prior to the exam dont do any mocks.. Do only concept review questions which are found in TIME material or only LOD1 and examples of Arun sharma. Do some speed maths.
Most importantly build confidence. this is a sort of paper if you are super duper confident you can ace it. And if you are not you can go down like me.Its all about confidence nothing else. A guy who has done graduation through correspondence mode can beat IITians... Confidence is the key.

Perfect. Smooth. No glitches. My first online attempt. Was good. Wrote last in '08.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
Easy paper. Not that I cracked it. My accuracy is always dizzy.

And no wrong answers (paper was so simple, I guess its difficult to get even the options wrong)

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Nothing much to say. During the waiting period, I did what I do best. Sleep. Other may meditate. Or ogle. Or play with fingers. Or make expressions at cameras.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam Toughness, sections etc.
VA: Started with this section. Am most comfortable with it. Don't think it was easy but. Tricky is the best word. Will be the make or break section, for me and for most of others.

QA: All questions on basics. All. Not more than 1 page of calculation.

DI: Not difficult, but a lot of useless, misleading info given. Just focus on what is required. I left some ques coz I thought they might be tough but coming back, they were OK. Just gotta be careful.

I never came back to see questions in AIMCATS, or any other mocks. I did today. I never attempted so many even in the simplest of mocks. Like today, I never had 30 mins left for 5 ques that I left initially. I never attempted more than 14-15 QA questions. Ever. Just to give you a perspective.

Paper level fluctuates. Don't expect anything. Not your job to fret. Go through your basics. Go with a blank and focused mind. ATB!

After watching more than 15 days of action from one side, finally I can cross over to the other side.

Three things before I describe my experience :
* I had decided that I will be giving CAT thinking it as another mock.And whatever happens I wont panic and wont think about the number of attempts.So had not decided ki 50 karna hai ya 45 karna hai.
* In the line before entering the center there was a guy with ADIDAS T-Shirt in front of me and it showed "Nothing is impossible".I felt it was a sign from god.
* I got a computer in the corner seat and the person on my other side was absent.So I had a little more space.

Experience was good as last time.The conduct of the test was done in a very professional manner.Yes the waiting time before the test could be reduced but I guess every test taker has to endure the same experience.So its fair I guess.

The paper was not so difficult as some of the previous slots.At least I didn't feel that.Rest to results ane pe hi pata chalega.

Dont go with any preconceived notions.I repeat this, as I went with the notion of doing DI slowly and lost out on a lot of time.Cautiousness if shown more, harms more than helps.
Have a glimpse of all the sections just to gauge the difficulty and make sure you give extra time to the difficult section to clear the cutoffs.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.

QA - My strongest section.Started with it and and did 14 qns in 30 mins.Usually I do 12-13 when the section is easy and less otherwise.So start was good.Gave last 15 mins to it and did 3 more questions to increase the score.Overall 45 minutes given.

DI - I was overly cautious as I mentioned above in doing DI.Wanted to do all of my attempted questions correct.DI on hindsight looked easy but it was a bit tricky and the level was probably moderate.Did only 8 in the next 30 mins.

VA - Wanted to finish it quickly as I was lagging behind in DI.Gave 30 mins.Attempted all but 2 questions (Word usage and grammar) as I usually get them wrong.The passages were ok and some of the options were close but I feel the RC questions were easier than the para completion questions.
Passages were easy to read but one passage was a bit lengthy.

Left with 45 mins I went to DI section and tried attempting as many as I could.Did 7 more questions in 30 mins ( ).Could have done better here.
If I dont get a good percentile in DI this time I would remember those 30 minutes.

Finished with quants giving it 15 mins when I realized I should try to increase my score in section which I can.

Give the exam like its another mock CAT.I know the pressure is enormous when you are giving it because of the procedures one has to go though before the paper and the waiting time.But the more you panic and become nervous, the more you tend to make mistakes.People say that one shouldn't give mocks before CAT but I gave mocks for three consecutive days before CAT which helped me soothe my nerves.I wont advice anyone else to do it but please try to do what works for you and not for someone else.

I know I panicked last time and although I didn't do well last time I probably didnt expect a 78%.

This time I was more relaxed and probably did better.In a sense I felt more like 2008 where I got 97% and missed because of 76% in DI.I just hope I dont miss an IIM call because of DI again.

Sitters is Quant, though the overall difficulty level was the same.

It was a good mix of all topics and all types of possibilities.
I personally felt that it was a mistake prone paper.
One can easily commit errors if questions wre not read properly.

Amazing Experience. The ambiance was perfect and no glitches at all (as I personally faced one last year)

VA section was utterly confusing. This section is ought to be the game changer.

Nothing much. Just plan out how to spend the 2 hrs before the exam.

VA: Started with this section. Was absolutely clueless about it. I mean I consistently have scored 99%ile in AIMCATs, but the level of VA here was totally outrageous. The options were very close. Keeping my fingers crossed.

QA: This section was pretty doable and the level of questions was very good. Just one tip for Puys left with CAT, all questions can be done just by applying core basics.

DI: I must say, this section checked IQ of a candidate. Many questions could be done via substituting the correct options (Esp. LR sets with 3 qs).

Plz dont keep on staring at the screen constantly before the paper starts. Will give u headache. Keep ur calm, and 10 mins before the paper, try to meditate a bit and success will be yours.

DI : As i knew that Di was going to be the toughest section i left it for last to maximise in other sections and it backfired, i got nervous in last 40 minutes to see the Qns. in DI:drinking:

QA and DI were very very simple. Really cursing myself for leaving 4 QA questions. In retrospection, feel that it was very easy to attempt all the questions in QA easily.
(Couldn't solve 4 questions in a row, dunno what happened Made mistakes like calculating 500/5 = 50 :|)
DI again was very very simple. 2-3 LR questions were nice, but apart from that very basic level. No data sufficiency questions for me.
Though took me complete time (45-50 mins) but very much doable, quite contrary to DI that came in earlier slots I believe.
Please read the questions before solving, you might not need all the data given and some data might be reduntant or repetitive.
VA is something I can not comment about. It was confusing. RCs were simple to read. The 4 question RC was a little tough, not the the RC to read but the questions.
Lots of PJs, which I personally felt were quite confusing. Even after I spotted the links, I was down to 2 options and was confused. Finally took a call and marked them. This was in line with my theory of attempting maximum in VA, as my accuracy always remained around 55-60 irrespective of the cautiousness levels or attempts

Don't have pre-concieved notions. The level can vary drastically.

took only 5 SIMCATS- all of them 93 to 96 percentile except the last one..

Test was conducted professionally, the lab's facilities were very good.
every taker had separate chambers.
Was a bit anxious initially, then went on smoothly..

tough LR caselets..

Stay cool.. maintain clarity of mind before the exam, especially during the idle time... take care of your body physiology, dont drink too much of water before the exam... make sure that you are comfortable physically and mentally till the end..

QA- easy to moderate, atleast 6 sitters.. had some speed breakers, beware of it.. tough questions test many concepts simultaneously.
VA- moderate, RC passages were simple, but the answer choices were close.. good mix of questions in vocabs, PJ and SC questions.. keeping my fingers crossed regarding this section..
DI- moderate , few tough questions were there especially LR but dont take my opinion completely for i am not so good in LR as other sections.. I think i did the rest well...

DI - was very lengthy... some sitters were there as well (you didn't have to solve the whole caselet to get some questions right)... LR was easy

QA - quite easy.. but could manage only 12 in around 30 mins (damn DI... took whole 50 mins)
VA - I am pretty good at this section... was consistently scoring 95+ in CL mocks... but being it tricky this time can't say anything... RC were doable... para completation was difficult... PJ were simple though took time to figure out the order.

Last CAT for me. Time to have a good sleep now.

AS I SAID I WAS SHOCKED (PLEASANTLY OF COURSE ) THE DI/LR WAS SERIOUSLY DOABLE. THERE WAS ONE SET OF AROUND THREE QUESTIONS WHICH WOULD QUALIFY AS ARUN SHARMA LOD-III, BUT PUYS SERIOUSLY WE ARE ATTEMPTING THE CAT! THERE MUST BE SOME CHALLENGE RIGHT?!!

QA WAS SIMPLE. 9-10 LOD-I. (I MADE A HORRIBLE MISTAKE WHICH I REALIZED AFTER MY TEST) REST WERE LOD II AND III. BUT GUYS ALL AND I MEAN ALL QUESTIONS WERE DOABLE. DON'T TAKE ANY TENSION ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL OF CAT. IT WON'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE NOW ANYWAY

Awesome...Prometric guys were really suportive. One of the gals had the habit of reading the RCs like she is chanting shlokas in a temple...cudn't concentrate. I wondered why other didn't complain. Later, they shifted her to a different PC :)

Had heard so much about the CAT, that papers are easy and 40-45 attempts..so not much surprise, however VA was a bit weird. Can't say anything.

Fb generation won't have any problem whatsoever. Take the tutorial.

QA: Full of Sitters Some of the questions were so easy, that I thought, maybe I am wrong.

The screens were bigger than last year IMO. If u r giving at balaji, The Screens face to the wall. This is amazing, Try to adapt quickly. This somehow helps immensely.

Strtd with Language section, Similar kind of Qs wernt clubbed together,causing hazy memory. The VA part was trickier than usual, Every pj had 2 very close choices, the Homonyms part was ok, Cant even remember the rest.The RCs were relatively easier than said on earlier days .. ..
2nd was DI . there were caselets which had 4 and 3 Qs too. Spent 15 mins on the first caselet. Thought i lost it here itself .. Luckily solved this one .. and went on to solve 12 more ..A few were sitters.. Accuracy should be high here.. last was QA .. Considering the DI fiasco .. thought i wud be screwed if i didnt solve many Qs.. Luckily .QA was a pleasant breather.. In fact it cudnt have been easier.. Although i cast doubts on a simple progression sum, where options werent visible ..
Nybody who has prepared well neednt study on the last day .. :P
All in all, taking into account the Normalisation part .. I fear that ppl giving at this time cud have it (difficulty level) against them....(Hope i solved the Tough Qs too .. :)) Now it;s all left in the hands of the Almighty ..!!

di-woooh!!!no calculations.....easy lr....accuracy will be the key here.no single caselets yaa except one which i left....all were doable

va-super enjoyed it....no ambiguity,everything could be deduced and inferred if you know the approach.clear,concise passages.....everyday words.....and no queen's english needed.just a blend of language and logic....

CL has given 2 mocks Unproc 19 and Unproc 20 recently, do at least one of them and form a strategy. They are very close to CAT in standard and style.

DI - Was the first section and it had either sitters or toughies, nothing in between. This was the pattern throughout the paper actually. I could not attempt 1 complete DI and 1 complete LR set. Which cost me 6 questions.

QA - Was quite easy. I could have solved 2 more questions had the formula struck me earlier. I hope it wont cost me dear.

VA - This was one section I was good at, that was till the CAT. I have started to doubt myself after solving this paper. IIMs sureply do want to keep Engineers out of the IIMs.

Last CAT for me I guess.

QA: Moderate. There were a few easy ones but few difficult ones as well. In some questions though i felt none of the options were matching. Overall the section was on the tougher side if u look at CAT 2009.
DI: Again moderate. Caselets were definitely do-able. Remember to read the questions before attempting any set.
VA: This was the surprise element for me. As per the previous slots, Passages were tough and vocab easy. But i found the opposite. Even though passages were lengthy but the options were nowhere close. Could be done with extreme ease if u r able to get the gist of what the author is trying 2 say. In vocab 2-3 questions were literally bouncers. PJs were also on the tougher side with complicated language.
OA: Paper was moderate-tough. Can't call it easy in any case.

Like many people have quoted i would like to repeat that its useless to go with any preconceived notion in ur head. It definitely helps u in one portion (in which u were prepared for the worst) but smashes u hard in the other. so just relax n give ur best shot. All the best to everyone.... CHEERS !!!

The Test was better managed in comparison to last year.
The only glitch being the two hour wait before the test and particularly in our centre where there is no proper sitting arrangment for the candidates.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
I guess the paper today was relatively on the easier side in comparsion to what we have been reading the reviews for the last two days.

Marking lines in RC's is a good additional feature.Please make use of the same,it helps one in locating words faster.Saves time!

Overall - Doable (Any attempts around 47-48 should be considered good)

QA- Easy/moderate.
Attempted 14 questions.Could have done more :(
Had to give more time for my poor attempt in DI.

VA- Easy/Moderate
Fill in the blanks with two options were a bit confusing.
RC were Ok.Inferential questions made it a little tough.
PJ were easy.
Overall a doable section.

DI - Moderate/tough
LR caselets were easy except one.
DI caselets were calculation intensive.
I feel people attempting anywhere around 14 questions today have done well.

Puys,one thing is for sure.
Time will never be an issue in a 60Q paper.
Either one knows how to crack the puzzle or one simply does'nt know!
The crux lies in keeping your cool and solving questions one by one.
Remember : "Panic never helps"
If you have your basics clear,maths on any day will be easy to crack even considering a medium level of difficulty of questions.
For DI it all depends on hitting the right node.
Some days you might do it and some days you might not be able do the easiest of the problems.

There are many more exams coming our ways and hardly any time left.

After reading through the experiences of the puys I was confirmed to get screwed in DI which I eventually did because DI has never been my section :(( :((

OA: 39, DI:10{7/10 correct (other 3 were guesses) }, QA:14{13-14/14 correct}, VA:15 {not sure about this section}

Doesn't matter. What matters is how you perform on the D-Day

3) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
VA: Started with VA as I had planned. Whoever says VA was easy for this slot might be VA god. Though the type of questions was the same PJs, FIBs, SC, Word usage, homophones and RCs but the words in the homophones left me completely off guard and stumped :wow::wow::shock::shock: never ever heard of those words. Same was with FIBs where the either the options were very close or the words were unheard of for me. This eventually created a lot of pressure over me to kill the RCs. The RCs were doable with some questions having very close answers :banghead:

QA: Was easy. Did 14 out of which I am damn sure of 13. One is dicey as I was unable to deduce the logic of the question. The very first question which I got brightened my eyes as I had already done that few days back

Would like to comment that I decided to spend 5 more minutes to each of these 2 sections because I knew DI would be tough for me. So wanted to just maximise in these two sections before eventually dying out in DI

DI: Now came the disastrous part of my CAT journey. Had planned to allot 55 odd minutes to it but ultimately could devote 45 min only as VA took hell lot of fight from my side. Just breezed through the section and could see very few easy doable questions. :banghead::banghead: searched for LR sets and cracked them. Then tried to tackle a set theory question which wasted around 10 minutes and later found that the data given in the question was ambiguous. The data given was contradicting itself Which later on discussion with other people from my center was confirmed that even they found it ambiguous. Time was running out and I was stranded in 6-7 attempts. This set a panic wave and here I lost out the cool of my head which I had been maintaining. Gave few futile attempts to crack an LR set which was a 3-4 paragraph set and drowned in the data given :(( Made 3 wild guesses in the end which now I curse myself for :banghead::banghead::banghead:

The finger print scanner wasn't able to scan my fingerprints :wow::wow:
Do make a mental note of plug points beneath the table lest you should trip the system off

I believe in today's slot 13-14 questions in QA, 12-13 in VA and about 13 in DI will be enough to get a good score.

Time to nail IIFT has come which I missed by a whisker last year :cheers::cheers:

Fantabulous! Though, a lesser waiting time could have been prevented the boredom. Had to wash my face twice before I actually got in the Lab.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
The difficulty level of Paper was not all comparable to that of AIMCATs and ProcMocks. I am not able to understand what IIM guys are exactly trying to assess by this kind of paper. Its not that I am criticizing anybody but, I think, with this kind of paper differentiation of candidates is certainly going to be a challenge. I just hope they make the selection procedure public.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Take the exam without any preconceived notions about this particular format. If you know how to operate Mouse and Key-board, you would not face any problem as far as the format is concerned.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
QA: Full of Sitters and also a fair share of Speed-breakers. If you manage to skip the Speed-breakers, 16-17 attempts will be within reach. I wish I would have given this advice to myself before the exam.
DI: Easy. Though, some of the caselets were lengthy, relevant data was visible with naked eyes.
VA: I will refrain from commenting on this section as most of my predictions in this section during the Mocks were WRONG.

but the paper was 2 damn easy. How can 1 calculate the percentile in such a paper..d chances also gets reduced 2 a great level..

just remain cool.and get ample amount f sleep before coz u hav 2 wait for quite a long tym..

QA- Easiest I hav seen till date.any1 can manage min 15.

DI - Moderate..I vud hav even rated it easy had it not been for exceptionally long sets..

I was more dan tensed 4 dis day nd even tried assessing all d strategies 2 start vid a paper..vat i learnt ws tat just dnt go der vid any pre concieved notions and approach d paper in a way u feel comfortable at tat tym..believe in HIM coz nothin in dis world is stronger dan HIM.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? Nothing special and new if u ok with the online mocks... the interface to use is jus the same (the only diff is the cat doesnt show the total number of attempts so u hav to count it )

6) Your overall analysis of the exam.
the QA section was easy and the concepts asked were jus basic.. so jus brush up your basics and qa would be cakewal\kl for atlest cracking 12 ques
VA section had very tricky RC questions where all the options looked similar... so had to devote some extra time reading them again and agian
.. The PJs were simple to attempt

DI- This was the toughest nut to crack...the questions were of one whole page and conatined only one question.. so was time consuming..:banghead:

Also had some sitters bt i had dne 2 ques wrong in nervousness which jus clicked when came out out.. so hold ur nerve guys..

Smooth. Although the prometic guys took away almost everything(including my jacket and handkerchief)(yes u read it right )

DI- although there was a lot of talk of it being lengthy it was tougher than i expected.

Nothing to say that has not been written already. Probably not reaching early to the center would be advised.

QA - It easily had 6-8 sitters..The overall level could be rated as easy.Any who was well prepared could easily attempt 16-18 here. I have messed up this.:oops:

DI - This is easily going to be the deciding factor of CAT 2010. With it being reported as easy during initial days and now it being suddenly calculation intensive , im not sure about the reactions that will come out once the results are declared.
Overall this section was very lengthy. I got stuck in some age question which had 4 questions and finally could not do it.

VA - Never been my forte actually so cannot really comment, but the paper was a nice balance of RCs/PJs/Sentence Completion/Grammar

I personally felt I could have done better had I been in practice . Work-ex took a toll on me and had practically just woke up and given the exam. Hope to have a better 2011.

Relax n feel confident.
Go thro' the tutorial properly.
Use of highlighter (yellow on selecting text) can come handy with RC.s.
And on 'review' page, double clicking any question will take u to that question, and from there u can traverse next or previous normally.

QA - easy to moderate. average preparation wd guarantee 9-10 q.s
Overall 12 could be very comfortably done.
DI - easy. but long passages i wd say!!
A q doesn't deserve so much reading.. anyhow, no worries, coz everyone is gonna face this. so %iles wd be normalized.

Just be calm and cool . Dont study in the last minute. Keep urself free for two days. Watch a movie.. Thats what i did, went for harry potter the previous day... it made my day:clap:... i was damn cool Come early. Turn off ur monitor during the 2 hour waiting period (or prepare urself to get a massive headache ) and make sure to use the loo 30 minutes before ur test. Make use of the highlight option for the comprehension passages.

VA- i started with VA cuz its my strongest section. Even DI is my strongest section ( I'll come to that later :shock:). It was very easy. there were 2 FIB of which one was a bit tough. RC s were very easy, though one passage i had to read twice to get the answers. I loved it so much... Wish there were 20 more VA questions . I took 35 minutes to complete it. There were FIB, PJ, PC and homonyms.

QA- This is kinda my weakest section though i'm very good in maths . However it was very easy. There were 5 sitters, the remaining questions required some calculations. Geometry questions were a bit tough. But u could answer all 20 questions provided u had 60 minutes time :wow:. I enjoyed answering them so much that i forgot to see the time... with just 35 minutes left i decided to go to the DI section. :shock:

DI- :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: Biggest mistake is that i just left 35 minutes for it. There were some easy questions here but the passages were so long and there were unneeded information. I read the questions first as mentioned by the u guys, thank u so much for that :cheers:. Managed to attempt 9 questions of which im sure all are right. There was a bar chart diagram with different colors in it, i couldnt see anything from it, it made me blind... so guys watch out for those questions I noticed 3 questions which didnt have the correct option i didnt know if i should answer them or not. however i did answer one or two of them.... could anyone tell me what i should do to inform prometric that the question is wrong?. i'm damn sure they are wrong.. those two questions were so easy that even a fourth grader could answer them!! Total attempt 10-11 im sure 9 are right ( can anyone tell me that if attempts are enuf to get a good percentile???)

Unfortunately there were no questions related to harry potter and the deathly hallows!! :wow:

PS : My exam wasnt so good ... U can expect this post to be a sort of confidence booster to u if u are feeling de-motivated or else it may be just useless to read all what I have to write ova here ; if you are a real champ and are expecting to read some good things on CAT ova here ...

Writing this post for : All the other pagal's like me ... who went with highh hopes ... but ultimately ended with fluking the exam like anythingg ... .. Personally , I dint find any post stating that the exam wasnt good ... we messed up .. dint make it .. cudnt do it .. etc things ...
However CAT for everybody cant be so good I suppose ... There'll be many people like me .. who sit daily .. read reviews of all good champs who have rocked their exams... saying that, Wow ! We are done .. calls are sure and blaah blaahh ... .... :banghead: ......
So .. just thought of writing my pathetic experience ... so that maybe , others who fluked their paper .. dun get so de-motivated as I got yesterdayy ...

MY EXPERIENCE : Pathetic ....
I reached Indo-global college of engineering , Chandigarh -- my test centre on time and was asked to wait half an hour till the entry took place .. .. after that there was a check-in and the photo identification process which was all done by about 8:45 am ... I was asked to be seated in the lab by 9 : 30 am ....
I dint know where to wander .. I had no friends accompanying .. and there were no seats to sit ... I dint want to go alone in the garden to sit there on the grass ... So i just kindaa walked around here and there .. and nowhere .. Anyhow, the time passed ; tutorial was done .. and at 10 am, my exam kicked off ! ..
I was confident , relaxed. I knew I went there with prepration and wasnt giving it for a time paas or something .. and I was S.E.R.I.O.U.S ! I told myself.. "Here we go , Let's see" ...

MY TEST , THE FIRST FEW MINUTES -- The 1st thing was DI ... I saw the first question to be of the length of an RC ... .. I wanted to start with VA so landed on VA section ... was spotting the RC .... there were 3 RC's .. 3 minutes gone .. I was seeing .. what am I gona atempt first ....
I landed on an RC following 4 questions .... started reading it .... But .. nothing was going inside my head ... 6 minutes gone .... NO ATTEMPT ... and I thought I shud better let it go .. beacuse I wasnt able to get anything written in the RC and then thought it wud be simply useless to answer those inference based questions which were based on the RC that I wasnt realy able to understand .. :splat:

NEXT 40 MINUTES -- Next I landed onto some EU based questions and solved about 4 or 5 of em .. but my speed was really slow I felt ... .. I looked and tried all questions from 40 till 60 (MY FIRST MISTAKE) but solved only 4 or 5 from EU and 4 or 5 approx from RC .. that's it .... 45 - 50 minutes gone .. and my VA was almost over ... I had just 8 or 10 attempts and I told myself .. I cant do much about it now ! It's over . SLOW SPEED and then wasting time on Rechecking my answers --
MY SECOND MISTAKE :banghead:

NEXT pathetic MINUTES -- I thought I ll take up DI on 2nd, but dunno how and why landed up doing Quant :oops:
I was wandering with review button tryingg to see what now ?! so many minutes over ... and VA ;; my strongest section just had 8 - 10 attempts and nothing of quant seemed to get into my head .. I was trying but not able to reach to any answer or conclusion .. I just had 2 attempts and I realised I cant do anything else now ... except of tukke maaaroing or trying my hands at DI now... -- Gettingg PANIC -- THIRD MISTAKE :banghead:

WITH ABOUT 35 - 40 MINUTES REMAINING -- I started with DI ... MAN !! ... Kya data's the !! Was tough !! Meri to lagg gayi .... pehle hi haalat kharaab thi itni ! Anyhow .. I solved few easy ones in LR ... And I cudnt help myself much ..... I had about 8 attempts with 15 minutes remaining ..... I went to review button and counted my attempts ....about 17 or 18 in total that's it ......

LAST 15 MINUTES -- All I knew was ke ab kuch nai ho sakta ... thode attempt badhaane chaiye agar ho saken to .... Went back to quant ... 3-4 tukke maare and total 6 or 7 were my total atempts in that section .. and I was done ... Last 2 minutes remained ... Went back again to Review .. counted ... 22- 23 attempt kiye the .... One last minute left .. I opened with a question of VA and by the time I was going to mark it ... MY TIME WAS UP ... Really in a Numb state I asked myself ,
Is it really done ? Over ?????? That was allll ?????


AFTER MY EXAM -- Quite obvious , I was really disheartened and really disappointed .... Came back home .. switched off my cell .. dint reply to anybody and just cried the whole evening ... I couldnt be so BAD ... Man .. I had worked hard for it . ... I was feeling more than down But ........... IT WAS DONE ...... and IT was OVER .... Nothing could be done now . Thats all .

WHAT NOW -- Ab kya ? kuch bi nai. Jo hona tha wo ho chuka .. rona dhona bhi hogya ... bacha hai kuch to doosre exams .... ya fir agla saal ....... All that can be done now is wait for other exams and give my best shots at them ... otherwise ... ALL IS WELL ... Will gear up with it once again .... !!!!!! Finally now i will put some smilies here :clap:

DI was tough ... Very lengthy. Many casellets were having 1 question only but a big data to solve beforehand. Quant ka to NO comment ... bakwaas tha .. number system se kuch aaya hi nai .. my all hopes were on that only. VA was ok kinds .. RC's were a bit tough .. EU was relative easy but again .. tricky!

7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us. Naaa. Nothing left .

BEFORE SIGNING OFF -- All what I wud say is that guys .... If like me, U too fluke yur exam..feel dishearten and get across a feeling which yells out loud to you .... that that's it !... FinISh .. No good hopes now.. Then remind yourself that .......... THERE IS LIFE BEYOND CAT ..... Take the other papers ... If still nothing goes well ..... then it's time to pick yurself again and try once more with a smile on yur face !!!! And trust me ... Hiding yur tears behind yur smile is quite some ART and it is quite an experience in itself .... !!!!

CAT's beauty is -- either it 'll take u so up that U ' ll feel yurself as if u have conquered the world !!! or else it'll drag u so down and spank u so hard that U ll doubt if u'll ever get up again ..... But fight with it .. and try to spank it back !!!!! .....

Go through the tutorial properly. Make use of review button. No need to keep on pressing forward or backward button repeatedly. It shall waste your time.

QA - Easy. I also felt 1 question had a wrong answer and left that.

VA - Moderate to difficult.

I attempted VA first (That's my strongest section). I had to think a lot in many questions which consumed time. Attempted around 18 here.
Then moved to QA and went on doing questions smoothly.:clap:
Attempted around 16 here.
Then moved to DI with around 40mins in hand(). Got so scared seeing the questions that attempted an easy question thrice!!
Managed to do around 10 questions only and not even sure about all of them.

Please do a proper time management. I thought of attempting all questions in VA and QA since I was able to solve them and so was left with no time for DI, which required the maximum.

I hope the normalization thing works properly, else DI is going to screw me.

Last mock score- 96.xx. Varied from 70.xx to 98.xx

It was awesome. The centre where i wrote the test was really really good. It was very well managed. Kudos to the invigilators and prometric . :clap:
The 90min long wait would have been a pain in the ass but we were allowed to sit outside the testing area till 9.30 and we could talk to people
Helped me calm my nerves.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
Nothing particularly surprising. I felt that one question in DI did not have the correct answer in the options. Apart from that everything else was smooth.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
If you have given mocks then nothing to worry. Try to make use of the highlighting option in RCs which can be really helpful.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
QA- Very easy. I could attempt 17 questions at one go in 46-48 mins which is very quick for me. Normally i take an hour to do the same number. 2 questions i guessed. So fingers crossed for them
VA- Moderate. I ain't that good in verbal so people who are really good in verbal might feel this section to be a cake-walk. One 3 question RC i left unattempted it was a bit twisted. Apart from that FIB was easy. PC was a bit dicey. 2 options looked close. PJs were of moderate difficulty. The other 2 RCs were also of moderate difficulty. Did 16 questions at one go in 32-33mins.
DI- Moderate. This is my strength but i felt some DI caselets were a bit tricky. LR was easy for me. There was one caselet which had about 250-300 odd words, i skipped it. I guess it has been the case in most of the days this year. Did 13 questions at one go in 40mins. Then came back in the last 10 minutes to do 3 more questions. Very doubtful on these questions though. I feel now that should have left them unattempted. :banghead:
Also there was one question for which i didnt find answer in the options. Anyone else felt the same?
OA - Moderate. CAT gods can score 55 attempts at the very least.
I will have to bank on the accuracy now. Hoping for the best!

One cannot ask more from Prometric.. Purely professional.. Except that AC was not working, proctors were very friendly..

Otherwise tough to crack..

DI : Started with LRDI(My strength) : Solved a 2 Qn sitter LR in 3 mins.. Could have solved in a minute..but nerves.. But those were the only 2 sitters i found.. DI's were :banghead::banghead:.. I dont know whether questions are wrong or I was wrong or options were wrong.. somehow i felt it is wrong to spend time here.. solved few single LR questions.. but managed only 7 Qns in 50mins :banghead:..Left others for a comeback..
QA :(My nemesis) Turned out to be damn easy(for me atleast)..May be because I have been preparing ONLY Quants All through this month... Attempted 15 questions in 45 mins.. I am sure all are correct..For those who are strong in QA,they wud have had a 20/20 hit.
VA :Left with only 40 mins.. Did all PJs,SCs,Word usages.. (Except PJs all had close options..)Left with only 20 mins..Just attempted a 4Qn RC in 10mins..
LAST 10 MINS : Was desperate to attempt more in LRDI as i was not sure of 1 or 2 that i attempted already..Solved 4 more in 10 mins.. 2 guesses..

Overall :
DI - Damn tough.. Only 3 sitter qns out of all 20..
QA - Easy(Watch out for some speed breakers, I jumped outta it)
VA - Too many close options.. I didnt even care to read 3Qn RCs,2Qn RCs..Neither did i have time nor the questions seemed easy in those..All were inferential nature..

In LRDI , I am sure one LR question didnt have right option and it seemed One DI caselet itself was wrong.. 3 out of 4 options were right.. What to mark :banghead:.. Well I might have missed some info or the question might be wrong.both are possible.

QA - Qns well spreadout.. Learn basic concepts..That's more than enough..Had 3 Geometry Qns.. But were simple..

VA - Options too close.. Will need an expert to choose between the two..I am not the right person to comment on it..

Waiting for Jan 12.. Normalisation should consider these varying difficulties across sections else we are :wow:specially DI...

I started with QA and for the first 10mins:banghead: I was not able to solve the 3 questions I encountered. I panicked and got frustated. Then moved on to next questions and were pretty easy. After solving 4,5 Q`s I came to normal situation and the rest of the exam was smooth.The first 3 sitters were doable and deceptive. They were deliberately kept to deceive the rest of the paper. Dont get panic at any stage.

QA-Easy to moderate Doable,3Qs Tough Rather I can say Sitters. In any normal situation they are pretty much solvable in 2 to 3 mins but considering the pressure in the exam, better not to waste much time on them.Wasted first 10 mins and overall devoted 45mins.
DI- I skipped one caselet completely. Solved 17 Q`s. Easy to moderate. The data was huge and the questions asked dont involve all the data presented. So eliminate options rather than solving caselets.Overall devoted 50mins.
VA-Attempted 17. I found 1 PJ very ambiguous. The pattern is same as told before RCs-4,3,2,2Scs,2FIBs,2SCs
Devoted 40mins. VA is my nemesis. I gave 20 to 25 mins to RCs and attempted 3,3,2. Over all felt I can clear cutoff.

Dont get panic at any stage as some questions are deliberately given to deceive you, rather some may fall in to pit with them.

DI- As usual, my first section! I was expecting almost no or very few questions from LR but the case was different today, around 6-7 questions on LR which i always love to solve and solved them easily!!! Though some questions were like RC passages and contained only one question, good concentration gives answer in first read only!! Solved one DI caselet which had 3 questions !!!
VA- Weakest section!!
Quite confused in first RC (had 2 questions in it), but then moved on when solved 2nd RC having 4 questions confidently!!!
PCs, FIBs, PJs, multiple usage were mixed in each other!! :-o

QA- Though I am good in this one, i was stuck at some questions, then realised it!! :nono:
After that, came across some easy questions and solved 5-6 of them within 6-8 mins!!

At the end, mismanaged 20 minutes, tried to solve some quant but at the end, solved only 2 from DI!!! :nono::sneaky:

Overall, tension hai thoda!!! :banghead::sneaky::drinking:

VA- very tricky. Infact, for a few questions all the options seemed correct. God knows my accuracy here
QA- Easy is the word. I am not great @ QA. But i was able to do well.
DI- phew.. wat a section... By the time i finished reading a set, 2 min was gone. By the time i started understanding the set another 4 min was gone. and i was too nervous so i was continuously skipping from one set to the other. But a few sitters are there. somehow i gained confidence and ended up solving a few.

Do not lose ur cool @ any time during the exam. That is the key.

DI- Shocking. Lost all my confidence here. Caselets were too lengthy although solvable but required patience which I didnt maintain. There were so much descriptions followed by only one question.:banghead:

VA- Will call it moderate to tough. God knows about my accuracy.

All in all it was a gud paper except for the DI part.

DI was out of this world. (Strictly my opinion)

just like any other mock.

QA- Very Easy. One question didnt have the correct answer in the options. couple of very lengthy questions. left those.

VA - Moderate. RCs were easy to read but some questions had close options. Vocab questions were too close for comfort. easy PCs and PJs.

DI - Very Difficult. I have always been weak in DI but I was shocked today. Line graph had three shades of red (I am colour blind:banghead::banghead:). Even a LR set halted me today(I am usually good at these). There were both 2 question and 3 question sets. cudnt make head or tail out of a 3 question one. attempted 12 over all out of which I am not sure about 2.
