While considering the marks of 10th and 12th, do they normalize these marks across different boards?

I will complete my B.Tech this year and I hated it for all the years that I was doing it.

I have an interest in finance and I think that I will do well in this field. My final aim is to do an mba from ABC only.

Is it possible that I can do this course and after that do an mba(ABC only) after 4-5 yrs i.e. work ex of 2-3 yrs. I don't want to go for IT workex(I hate IT). The percentiles I am getting in mocks and previous year papers should definitely help me to clear the cutoffs and I have a decent profile for MFC.

Is there anyone from your batch who has a similar aim.

MFC- Master of finance and control(I don't think it is equivalent to an mbawhich is proven by the fact- No workex required).

My reason for not doing an MBA from ABC in this year itself:-

1) Low Grad percentage
2) Not getting enough percentile to make up for my average profile(My expected percentile is around 98-99.3%ile)
3) I am a strong believer that one should first build a decent profile and then go for an MBA.

Although Saurabh answered your query quite well, yet i feel some words coming from a B.Tech graduate who has been in a similar quandary himself, will surely help you in calming your nerves.

As you mentioned yourself, the obstacles between you and IIMs (ABC) are your low grad marks and your 'not so brilliant' profile. Thus doing MFC at this point of time is indeed a very good option for you. A masters degree, from an institute which is counted amongst the best in the country for studying finance, with the brand name of Delhi University attached to it, will boost your profile big time.

I myself intend to go for an executive MBA program after completing MFC and gaining some industry experience for 3-4 years. And i am sure your aims will get much higher than doing an MBA program from ABC once you join MFC.

There are a few guys in class who will be taking CAT again and there aim this time will surely be the IIM's. I also agree with you about having a decent profile before doing an MBA. But the concept of an MBA in India is completely different from the global understanding of the course. In India any fresher can apply for an MBA (except for certain niche courses), so the reasoning that DFS accept freshers hence it is not an MBA equivalent is not entirely correct, in the context of Indian B-Schools. Infact an MFC degree can hold its own against an MBA in Finance from most Indian B-Schools.

Apart from that, you won't most probably be aiming for IIM's 6 years down the line. DFS will surely land you in a job wherein, after 4-5 years, if you think of furthering your profile you'll go for B-Schools better than IIM's. (We recently had an interaction session with an Alumnus who, we learnt was headed for London Business School for further education after working with some leading finance companies)

As for your question...You can certainly go for IIM ABC after MFC

If you follow the recruitment in top-notch B-schools across India, you must be aware of the fact that few companies offer Corporate Finance profiles to freshers (ppl coming out of B-schools). This is because of the fact that the work in this area requires experience in practical Accounting and Finance. DFS, due to its specialization in Finance, attracts some companies that offer this kinda profile to its students. But, I have not seen any kinda bifurcation in here.

Please let us also know (as is requested in previous query also) regarding the profiles offered in the field of Equity Research; are the profiles offered the same across all top b schools or different in IIMs and MFC (with all due respect, I do not mean to compare MFC with any other institute as it is the best in its own space but sometimes companies prioritize while offering profiles, such as IB).

MFC does not conduct a separate entrance exam; it will take CAT 2011, score to be shortlisted for GD/PI.

There wasn't any cut-off as such. I have already shared the detailed criteria in the first post itself. Average CAT %ile of our batch is 94-95%ile for General category. Rest of the calculation is upto you

Its a welcome step by MFC to make the whole selection process very transparent this year.
However, i am surprised and disappointed to understand that there is no weightage for workexperience neither for GD/PI nor for the final selection. Is there a rationale behind this or something else? On of the reason might be that MFC being a pure finance course, work experience in other fields doesnt help much. But then relevant financial/banking sector work experience should be given weightage. Atleast this way working candidates are brought on par with the others, by compensating for their relatively low scores in CAT(working hours really don't give you time to study hard) and also with their relevant work experience they will definitely add value to the class.
Request seniors to explain the stand of the institute on this issue.

I really should not be commenting on anyone's chances of making it to the GDPI or the final shortlist. It all depends on the profile of other people with whom you will be competing for selection. I'd just reiterate that with the changed admission criterion the Engineers stand a much better chance than last year. And even the DFS MFC Part-1 batch comprises of around 40% people from Non-Commerce/Business Admin. background. The same statistic is 65% for our seniors. So the picture isn't as gloomy for the engineers as it seems to be :)

And as for being below average in graduation is concerned, no weightage is given to the graduation marks so just relax.

your sources are correct about the front end thing...the profile is only offered to IIM guys..more so A, B,C ..wat we at MFC get offered is the backend work which is wat other B-schools like FMS, IIFT and the like are offered..if you are keen on joining the I-banking industry... yes MFC will get u an oppurtunity to get into some of the best I-banks but the profile would be a backend office..in which there wont be any direct interaction...incase you need any more clarification will be happy to help....

I was just filling up the application for both MFC and MBE. While on the payment page I did not find any option for making the payment through Credit card. Will it be available later or the only option for payment for online application is Demand Draft?

Secondly I had gone through the admissions thread for MFC and MBE , had found some pretty impressive profiles specifically engineering background candidates being rejected without even being called for GD/PI.

I am an engineer from a normal engineering college with 31 months work ex. Honestly let me know if there is any point in me applying to MBE/MFC programmes as in will I get a call if clear the CAT cut off.

The DD mode of payment is the only option as of now, which has to be sent along with the receipt that the Online Admission Module generates. Please go through the Instructions carefully before final submission.

This time the situation is somewhat different as the weightage to Relevant Background has been decreased from 5% to 2.5% and 2.5% weightage for Mathematics marks has been introduced.

Further, the main reason for Engineers not making it to DFS MFC was the weightage given to class 12th marks (where they suffered due to AIEEE and JEE prep), which is quite good in your case (esp. maths marks). So you should definitely give it a try.

I am a big time Investment Banking(IB) aspirant and perceive MFC as one of the best in business when it comes to financial education, and thus aspire to be a part of it. Also current placement stats suggest that 9% of the student got IB profile. However, I have learned from various sources (which may very well be true or false) that, although, Bulge Bracket (BB) Investment Banks recruit students from many good colleges across India but they offer "Front Office IB Profiles" (Analysts/Associated having maximum client interaction or in short The Real Bankers) only to grads from IIMs,XLRI,ISB and the rest are offered Middle Office(dealing with risk and compliance requirements) or Back Office (data crunching) profiles, which are sometimes also called Global Resource Centres. Now, how far this is true, especially in case of the profiles offered at MFC by Bulge Bracket Banks (and not Boutique Banks). And if Front Office profiles are offered by any of the Bulge Bracket Banks than what are there names (as it is not clear from the list of recruiters as to what profiles were offered by whom).
I request the seniors for a clear insight into the matter.

Sorry guys, but after previous year screw up of MFC admission procedure I dont have extra bucks to waste again on this.

We gracefully accept that there were a few glitches initially last time around but everything went on smoothly in the end. Any query as to any candidates shortlisting was met with a prompt and detailed reply. We later ensured that the concerns of the aspirants were communicated to the authorities and hence this time DFS has come out with probably the most comprehensive admission guidelines.

Profiles offered to DFS MFC students include Inv. Banking, Corporate Finance, Wealth Management, Financial Consulting, Equity Research etc.

Current year placement efforts are underway. The placement team visited companies in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad recently apart from the ones based in NCR region. Most of the regular recruiters and some new ones have agreed to visit the campus. For a list of past recruiters you may like to take look at the Brochure here.

I think its good that DFS MFC this year has come out with the cutoff even before the forms go on sale. This way an aspirant who thinks he may not be able to score 90%ile can apply elsewhere instead of shelling out money on DFS MFC form. :)

It all boils down to the profile of other applicants as it with them only that you will have to compete ultimately. You do stand a very good chance, with your background, of being shortlisted for GDPI after which it will depend on your performance on the D-Day. All the best for your CAT.
