Sir/Madam,

Quite a few students who have been shortlisted for the GD/PI process have also been shortlisted for SPJIMR, Mumbai's selection process. The option of booking interview slots for SPJIMR begins tomorrow and is scheduled to be held in the second half of March. Hence there is a high probability of clash of interview dates for many a students with SPJIMR's interview dates.

If you could you kindly give us a tentative schedule for the GD/PI process at different centres it would help us avoid clash of interview dates and eliminate a lot of requests from students later on for rescheduling of interview dates.

Last year.....It was written on the GD/PI shortlist that GD/PI's will be conducted from the 2nd week of March

GD/PI Slots were Out on 19th of FEB........ and GD/PI's Started arnd 9th March(Bangalore being the first centre to be interviewed while Gurgaon was arnd the same date, Kolkata arnd 18-19th March)

This year..... GD/PI Shortlist says GD/PI will be conducted arnd 4th week of march.......

Considering GD/PI slots to be out somewhere arnd 1st march......and GD/PI's to start sumwhr arnd 21st March (as per last year when they had a gap of 20 days between date of slots and gd/pi).Aspirants frm Bangalore and Gurgaon should be getting dates arnd 21-28th March roughly...... while those from Kolkata should be getting their dates arnd 27th March........

PS: I am an aspirant and all these are mere speculations.....but can be of some help in light of last year info.

PPS: Seniors know as much as we do.

Hey, there has been quite a bit of talk about exchange programs for PGPM and PGIM, but I am just curious if there is any exchange program for PGHR. Now, I do know that the HR course had started only in 2004, but considering the very popular exchange programs for the other two courses, I would like to know whether PGHR also has some similar exchange programs. :xmas:

Also I would like to know how many students were placed in consulting profiles as opposed to (cost cutting/support function) profiles last year out of the total batch of 60 of PGHR. I specifically mean last year because this year with the economy slowdown, the numbers might reduce, but that would'nt be indicative of what we may face two years down the line. :

admissions department told today that ....... interview center allocation list would be out by this weekend or max till next tuesday.....

this year there would be little strictness in interview venue change matter ...due to some complexities... only highly acceptable genuine excuses would be accepted ~!
try to presuade other institutes for change in date in the event of clashing of dates with MDI...

Bt PGPM also provides option fr foreign exchange(including the ESCP-EAP).then why is PGIM seen as the course fr the Global exposure.Can a PGPM guy opting fr the foreign exchange opt fr the internship abroad.
Brochure mentions that one out of evry three opt fr the exchange.why is this?(becouse of personal disposition or due to limited oppurtunities).HOw difficult(or otherwise) is it to avail the exchange?

The basic difference between PGPM n PGIM is that PGPM is a specialised course where u specialise in say fin mark ops or strategy..wherein PGIM is a general management course wid no specialization wid one yr in europe...u do ur internship in europe...n abt internship for PGPM u need to do ur internship wherever u get it(college se to india me hogi) however if u opt to sit out n try for a internship on ur own I dont think college will have any objection to it...
n PGPM go for exchange again to get some global exposure..alost every1 who applies get thru..arnd 80 students from PGPM goes on exchange..so if u feel u want to go on exchange u can always get thru PGPM also..however if u want to do internship in europe than PGPIM is a better option...hope this helps..

I am standin @ exactly the same juncture...from the same bacakgrnd and @ the same %ile...

Intially i was bit skeptical about my chnaces @MDI...Then i did some maths n m feelin good now..Here it goes...

Lets assume MDI still gives 2/3 weightage to CAT score...
rest 1/3 is given to things like acads, work ex, GD and PI u can't change anythin xcept ur GD/PI...

say a guy with good score be 99.5 and we stand @97.99 so a diff of about 1.5 %ile...

you can either count it as 1.5 only or convert to ( marks obtained/356 *100) == ur percentage score which will come about 5-7%...


So that means a guy @99.5 is ahead of you by max 7 marks...
Case I:
Considerin total marks to be 150 so all u need to do is cover 7 marks xtra in GD/PI...I believe u can do that 7/50...

Case II:
considerin total marks are 100 then u have to score 4 marks more in 33 marks...So 4/33 more than others....
This isin't that tough na....

So buckle up you(and me also) have all the more reason to work hard...

Apologies for the delayed response.
And, Congratulations on the calls! :-)

There is really no one way in which interviews can be conducted. There are separate processes for the 3 courses. However, there have been precedents of people being quizzed about their preferences and reasons for applying to other courses in an interview. This can be a way to assess the goal clarity of the candidate.
The key remains in trying & convincing the panelists while being completely honest, of course.

The CAT percentile for the final PGPM convert was about 98.5. This shall not have any bearing on this year's processes though.

Your chances of conversion shall be a function of multiple parameters. The ones in your control would be preparation for the final assessment round. So, give that your Best shot.

And, for all other aspirants, this is rather redundant, but Please do not waste time in trying to speculate dates for the processes. There usually isn't much time to prepare once the dates are out. We do understand the issues of scheduling & planning for other interviews. The dates shall be out soon.

yes tey would ask u course specific questions........be ready to b grilled on questions like why HR and why not IM etc etc.....
there was no CAT cutoff for people who converted..tis was on their cumulative score of CAT n gd/pi........waise the last person is very close
to 98 percentile.......
chances of ur conversion are good,........give a good gd/pi .......plz dont screw tat up.....

if tat continues....u need to do a good GD/PI...
n dont get nervous bout gd/pi....remember everyone is at par there.....

Process changes every year.....it may be possible that the CAT weightage is reduced drastically this year.......we can never outguess the adcom

Besides Seniors' position on knowing about the CAT weightage is as good (or bad) as ours........

All we can do is work hard.....give our best shot..... and leave the rest.....

PS: I am as nervous and as apprehensive @99.36 as u @ 97.99 ..........

Just to emphasize the importance of the interview dates....
There are plenty of people with both MDI and SPJIMR calls and there is a high probability of the dates clashing....

Hey, I may be way off on this one, but during my research on MDI, I was curious about three things:

- a random search for MDI alumni across PG, google, and linkedin, dont really throw up illustrious names; found it a bit strange since MDI has been there since 73 or something. Could you let me know some MDI alumni that have kicked ass in the corporate world?

- a basic sense of the foriegn placements/offers available to MDI PGPM; given that PGIM program has an internship in Europe, does it also attract international placements for PGIM batch and can PGPM also compete for it?

- role of CoEs in the PGPM curriculum and in general, available scope and opportunities for involvement with particular CoEs. ( I come from a research and consulting company, and was curious about a couple of CoEs)

i will answer your three things :).....

1st .... MDI PGPM started in 1994 not in 1973.. before that it was spreading managements education to govt officials lke IAS, class- 1 officers ...and moreover MDI alumni network is very strong and well placed in corporate as well as govt offices ...as PGPM is just 15 year old so it will take just 5-6 years more when you will be hearing MDI grads names on news channel :)... during our alumni meet we interact with lots of very well placed alumni and their experiences ...and they have really done very well in corporate world till now... thats why MDI is known and respected in corporate sector .....:)

2nd
PGIM batch does it internship in europe and most of them get their PPO's there itself ... yes PGPM batch can also apply to any company visiting campus..

3rd.. by CoE .. you mean council of europe ? or consulting organisations?
we have a flexible curriculum which is based on industrial needs and it keeps on changing as per enviornment...

Recession: IMO Recession in one sentence is slowing down in economic activities which is attributed to reduced willingness of people in taking part in various transactions.

Cause of Recession: Subprime Crisis and its cascading effect on the globalised economy

What is Subprime Crisis and how it started?
Business model of Subprime: Subprime Lending deals (rather dealt) with lending to less credit worthy people (that's why the word "subprime") at higher interest rates. So, it's high risk high return business model.

pros: huge market place for subprime as Americans are credit maniacs (I read one article in NY Times that now a days financially broke people go for shopping expensive items on credits just to distress themselves, that's PAGALPAN in Indian standards, isn't it?)
cons: probability of sucessful loan closure goes down dramatically

How it all started? (taking a bit of contrarian stand here, which might spur few counter arguments)
US was experiencing Real Estate boom for a decade (till the crisis started) and the reason for this boom was excess liquidity in the market. This excess liquidity was due to the lowered interest rates by Fed.
So what led Fed to continually lower interest rates during boom time (unlike in India; in India RBI continuously kept on increasing interest rates to control liquidity)??

The reason could be the unprecedented Funding for Iraq War!! Iraq war started in 2003 and it overshot the initial budget (initial budget was $60 billion, but it shot to $500 billion. Some even say that it was A Trillion Dollar War). So, huge liquidity was one of the best ways available with US govt to get the funding for war (infact there were lot of Short Term borrowings in terms of T-Bills during that period).

So my line of thinking while discussing the cause for the Crisis is,
(Iraq War + Credit crazy Americans) --> need for funds by US govt --> attempt to keep liquidity high --> Subprime business model boom --> Global and local I-Banks jump into the tempting business of securitisation of subprime loans --> Liquidity Crunch --> No more money to pay the so called "EMIs" --> Increase in defaults --> property prices decline due to supply-demand mismatch --> Direct economic impact to I-Banks who securitised these loans

Current Problems!!
As the business of securitisation went deep into many tiers of Global Banking network, it caused tremendous cascading effect on the economic world.
Few of the many problems that Economies of various countries are facing now are:
1> Ironically the high liquidity that at one time triggered Global Economic Meltdown is now immediate answer to the issue in hand. Almost all economies are agrressively lowering interest rates to inject liquidity.
2> Huge decrease in demand in almost all sectors as now consumers are very reluctant to spend/invest money insanely.
3> Lowered international trades.
4> Increase in Risk Aversion. Thus, less people to burn their fingers in something new/risky.
5> And direct impact on people is Loss of Jobs.

Hey, I may be way off on this one, but during my research on MDI, I was curious about three things:

- a random search for MDI alumni across PG, google, and linkedin, dont really throw up illustrious names; found it a bit strange since MDI has been there since 73 or something. Could you let me know some MDI alumni that have kicked ass in the corporate world?

- a basic sense of the foriegn placements/offers available to MDI PGPM; given that PGIM program has an internship in Europe, does it also attract international placements for PGIM batch and can PGPM also compete for it?

- role of CoEs in the PGPM curriculum and in general, available scope and opportunities for involvement with particular CoEs. ( I come from a research and consulting company, and was curious about a couple of CoEs)

6.Ratings?????if FMS is at No.8 and MDI at No.11 or likewise...... so does tht make FMS a DIFFERENT CLASS??I am sorry dude u need to revisit ur basics on stats in tht case.....

7.Selection Process???? i appeared for FMS last year ..... and till date i dont know....abt the section tht played the truant in my case....is this the selction process u are trying to endorse? Is this the selection process tht makes FMS class apart?just try and have a look @ FMS paper of '09 and '08 u would know how NOT to set a question paper?? is this the selection process u talking about??

8.converts.... dude now since u r getting into statistics (50000:120).... i can safely say tht MDI has a conversion ratio of (250000:240)......talk abt statistics ... eh?

Guys i think ushud stop this discussion here...dont compare colleges ..u can only look at the pros n cons of both the colleges n make ur judgement accordingly...Both of u can give multiple reason why one college is better than the other but this wont lead u anywhere...what I wud say at this point of time is that give ur best shot for both MDI n FMS...work hard for GD PI rather than comparing colleges..once u r thru u can make ur judgement according to the pros n cons...right now there is no point in deciding which college is better...
n personally since i m from MDI i wud not like to hear anythng wrong abt MDI atleast on this forum(I know ki the other person have not said anythng wrong but during argument he might speak)..so guys just stop comparing...I wud say which ever college u get thru u will feel proud of urself..

1. When will be exact dates for GD/PI announced. Will it come on Site or we get seperate letters from MDI.

2. what weightage is given by MDI towards OA CAT score for the final selection?

For GD PI dates you will receive a letter from mdi...
As far as the weights are concerned u can never be sure of until the results come out...last year there was heavy weightage on CAT score but looking at the trends this yr across all major b schools this trend might change...wat i wud say id forget about weightage and give ur best shot...

1) look at the faculties there (u can chk their site) all are phds and it has gt the best stud-faculty atio 3:1
2) by all ratings its in top ten instis..
3) their selection process is too rigorous(gd,extempore,..).. candidates:converts arnd 50000:120 .. and :detective:

MOST IMP OF ALL .. LETZ LEAVE THIS DISC .. I think the ques of that Pilani guy is silly in the first place..
IF HE CONVERTS all... that is jus damn rare..still if he does he'd know where he has to join.. where is he worth ..

Last year PGIM waitlist cleared till about 120 odd... besides this the first list had 45 confirmed call...while the number of seats was 35... so this first list of 45 had 10 buffer calls... since, a lot of people in any list are expected not to join, it leads to many lists, which extends the admission process... in order to avoid this marginally... the college can put an inherent buffer starting from the first list itself... assuming atleast 10 people won't join... nonetheless in the extreme case where all 45 decide to join, the college has to grant admission to all... which might be a funny situation...

PGPM had waitlist conversions till #380 last year. 63 Buffer calls were given out.

PGPHR, and PGIM, you'll have to find out at the respective threads. Or, maybe, some seniors of the courses can step in here.

Hey puys... this is for the PGIM call getters in particular...

We are planning to have an informal coffee session, with you guys... PGIM that is... ( PGPM might come up with its own version soon )
What we attempt to do is meet some of you... (NCR people) and get to know each other... it would be nice for us to know our coming batch and obviously you can use the time to get to know the course better...
Some of the seniors would also be joining the session and can provide their input from the 2 years they have spent as part of PGIM and their experiences in Europe and working with companies there...

And besides all this technical crap you can always enjoy a good cup of coffee... :)

So, This sunday it is somewhere in southex.... not yet fixed the venue... and sometime during the evening... say 5ish ...
