You can take loan from any bank. SBI is just the most preferred bank. Corporation bank is another bank which is near to MDI and comes on campus to offer loans.

Most of the students apply after coming to MDI. I had applied for loan 2 weeks after coming to MDI.

Almost entire fee is provided as loan. Probably 5 or 10 percent of the fees is to be paid by the student.

For installment paid prior to taking loan, SBU reimburses the last amount deposited. So if you are paying your fees in 2 installments (some people who clear waitlist later pay the 2 installments together) you will get one installment.

In my case I have paid the first installment myself and SBI reimbursed the second installment. However there is one benefit that for the rest of installments you don't have to pay anything from your account (as the installment is considered in calculating the percentage paid by you).

Also SBI, Mehrauli branch is a a very efficient branch and your work is done fast without much hassles.

For guaranteer/coborrower there should be no problem if it is your brother. But please confirm.

Call the number 01242331517 (SP Dua of SBI Mehrauli) to clear any queries.

There is alumni meet in mumbai and bangalore.... with which ecclesia is being merged in those two cities.
In delhi it (ecclesia) would be an informal meet in MDI campus only.

Dates and venues for the three cities are as below:

Bangalore: Taj Residency, May 23, 2009, 7:00 PM onwards
Mumbai: Le Meridian, May 30, 2009, 7:30 PM onwards
New Deli: MDI Campus, May 24, 2009, 6:00 PM onwards

Apart from these three cities... Ecclesia will be held in Kolkata and Chennai... details of which will be updated soon..

1. The chances for people getting in the confirmed list to get accommodating on-campus are quite good. Nobody can give you guarantee though. So please wait for the right time.

2. Yes, rooms are double occupied in 2nd year as well.

3. The allotment of hostel would be based on merit list of admissions. The same happened last year as well. I feel, that's the most apt way!!

4. That's a bit weird question to ask. But who knows, you maybe lucky to find someone exchanging his MDI room with your IDPL room :D

1. What is the criterion for deciding the hostels. Are they done on the waitlist number? (mine is W/L 124)
2. What is the intake in main campus hostels?
3. If I get an IDPL room, will I be able to exchange it with someone at main campus or rather, will any person be ever willing to go to IDPL?

I have confirmed admits from NITIE and MDI for the batch of 2011.
I created a form questioning on various parameters that every one look for in a b school.
It is not a relative form questioning between NITIE and MDI. The answers for the questions are absolute values (don't compare with others). In some places IIM's are considered the bench mark.
Please give your valuable advise by filling the form.

No. of seats for PGPM = 240.
No. of calls = 450 -> the extra number of calls are known as "buffer calls" which are issued because there will be a lot of people who would heading to IIMs etc. So this is a concept to fill maximum seats through the first list. However, if all 450 ppl turn up for admission, MDI will have to give admission to all of them. That is only a hypothetical situation though.

1. It would be advisable if you reach latest by 20th evening or 21st morning. This would give you time to settle in.

2. Yes, you would also get an official communication regarding registration. Last year we had it 3pm of the day before joining date.

Everyone,

I see a lot of posts of people trying to compare institutes, and asking wether 'joining MDI this year or giving another shot to the IIMs?' is worth it.

I won't go about comparing institutes, but I would certainly like to present an account of why my Alma Mater has risen to the stature it commands today. (P.S.: I highly recommend watching the corporate film on MDI's web site.)

Why MDI?
1. Peer learning: Everyone here at MDI is likely to be 99 percentile plus. (HR & IM should also be close to that mark) .The amount you learn outside the classrooms through everyday interactions at B-School is much more than inside it. At government institutes, one has to contend with reservations.

2. Faculty: MDI has the 2nd highest permanent faculty body in the country. All of them highly experienced, qualified, and renowned in industry and academic circles. The total number, as of date, stands at 77. A number of them have multiple books, and international reserach publications to their credit. Look up faculty profiles of people like Prof. C.V. Baxi, Prof. Pritam Singh, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Prof. Subir Verma, Prof. Ashok Kapoor, Prof. Rohit Prasad, Prof. A.P. Arora, Prof. Dhruv Nath, Prof. Sanjay Bakshi, Prof. Amit Kapoor, Prof. Mukul Gupta, Prof. Jyotsana Bhatnagar, Prof. Asha Bhandarkar, to name just a few. Am sure you shall be enthralled.

3. International Linkages and Exposure: Again, amongst the best in the country. AMBA and other international accreditations. IIMA has been awarded EQUIS accrediation this year. MDI & IIMA are the only institutes in the country to have such extensive international linkages. I hear that MDI has also been awarded the AASCB accreitation, though I'm not very sure, as of now. AMBA, EQUIS, and AASCB are referred to as the 'triple crown' of accreditations.

MDI boasts of tieups with 45 top international B-Schools in 23 different countries for Student Exchange Programs. (Am looking forward to my exchange term with ESCP-EAP, Paris (probably ranked #2 in Europe by the financial Times) this August!)

International Exposure is an imperative for any management graduate in today's age & times.

4. Placements: MDI has always had amongst the best placements in the country. This will be 16th batch of PGPM. PGPHR, and PGPIM, inspite of being relatively newer courses, have differentiated themselves on several counts, and are doing well on this parameter as well.
Again, 2008 was an year of inflated expectations, and 2009 has been just the opposite. Therefore, they should not be made the benchmarks for assessing any B-School. At the same time, when the reports are out, one may make an objective assessment of placements.

5. Strategic Location: Gurgaon is a corporate hub. Hence, MDI boasts of an expansive industry interface. In the last one year, we have been witness to visits and talks from numerous CEOs: Bharti Airtel, Du Pont, PNB, Nestle, to name a few.
Further, there are numerous opportunities for Live Projects which add tremendous value to both your CV, as well as your education.

6. Pedagogy and Curriculum: MDI has a predominantly case sudy-based pedagogical approach. Classrooms are a treat to be in, with the finest brains in the country, and arguably the world, at work together churning out spectacularly brilliant, (and often outrageous) ideas!
The curriculum is revised and updated regularly. PG '08 even had a complete subject devoted to the financial crisis in the third trimester (Jan-Mar 2009), making MDI probably the 1st B-School in India, to study the crisis as a part of their curriculum: as it happened.


7. Infrastructure: i) Campus: MDI has a campus of over 37 acres. The campus is one of the most aesthetic, and visually appeasing in the country: the photographs keep making their way to newspapers and TV programs! There are well maintained sports facilities, expansive 'Imperium Greens', and of course, as many of you would know, a six-hole Golf Course on campus.
There are elaborate plans for even further augmentation of this infratsructure in the coming months.

7. Infrastructure: ii) Classrooms & Hostels: Besides, the general ambience and greenery, the classrooms infrastructure (All classes are AC!) and the hostels are also pretty good. The hostel complex at Change Masters Annexe (IDPL) is also very well maintained and has Wi-fi internet connectivity. Executive Management program participants also have excellent facilities. But, that wouldn't be of much interest to PG students.

7. Infrastructure: iii) Library: Around 60,000 books, 325 Print Journals, 800 e-journals, an online library, numerous training videos, movies, annual reports of top companies, conference proceedings, case studies: Need I say more?

8. Student Managers: Look up Unnati: A Mutual fund competely managed by students at MDI. Strategic invetsment based on market analysis is done. the fund has been running successfully for over six years.
Besides that, most activities on campus, ranging from Placements to Annual Festivals, are completely student driven. Hence, beyond the academic rigor, there is an exciting and intense extra/co-curricular spread.

9. Student Social Responsibility: Besides the famed academic rigor, intensive efforts in Academic and Extra curricular Management clubs, students also manage to find time to cultivate and nurture their social side. Samaritans, is MDI's social service club. Samaritans have adopted an entire village nearby the campus. Also, PG students in association with Energy Management students have been engaging in a Haryana State Government Project for Energy Awareness for school children.

10. Rankings: MDI has consistently featured amongst the top 5 B-Schools of the country. References for this year: CNBC TV 18's A List of B-Schools (Data based rankings: Rank 4), Mint: Rank 5, CSR: Rank 4. However, its important to underscore the fact that there is a huge difference between facts and perceptions. Remember, that "Truth is never a function of the number of people adhering to it". :)

Firstly, assuming college starts by around June 15th (Correct me if I am wrong), will the junta with work-ex have enough time to meet the notice period enforced by their companies if they do make it through the waiting list only towards the end?

Secondly, will those on the waiting list get some time before they have to pay the fees? Because if the dates for the latter installments remain the same for everyone, then those who know later will be slightly disadvantaged when it comes to time to arranging the funds, won't they?

Life @ MDI should begin in all earnest for the 16th PG batch (and of course, the younger HR, and IM batches as well!) from June 15th (My Birthday!! :)

Yeah, you're right, things do tend to become slightly hurried for people on the fag end of the waitlist converts.
That's the way things have been till now, and there haven't been many issues that I hear of. Stuff just works out!

As for the time for installment payments, people on initial waitlists get around 2 weeks, and the last moment converts get about a week's time. Hence, I would advice everyone till about WL #200-250 to keep funds handy. You never know, when lady luck shines, and for how long the window of opportunity stays open! (Gawd, so corny of me! :P)

People who are on the waitlist: The next 45 days can get agonizingly difficult and painful for you. Brace up for waitlist movements that may just be smaller than you expected, and at times there may be surprising movements. Use the time to add as much value to yourself and prepare yourself for taxing academics at B-School. Speculations are expected and normal. But, usually, they are futile. I was a part of these speculations and a keen follower; but what shall happen, is a function of multiple random variables and hence better utilisation of time is advisable!
Hang in there: There are surprising ways in which providence rewards people who keep the faith! And, I say this from personal experience.

We can distinctly remember our time last year, the euphoria and the ecstasy! The following two years would be an experience that is potentially life altering. We hope you shall arrive in full resplendence, learn from and give back to your alma mater in ample measure! :)

The last 1 year has been something that is almost indescribable in confines of the Queen's language. Life at MDI has been like living in a microcosm of the most Brilliant minds, competing with them, and winning together in teams: every single day!

More than anything else, life at a top B-School adds immense value through the innumerable peer learning opportunities. Dinner table discusions, campus walks, getting to know and debate people's opinions on diverse issues on an intellectual level that is often thrilling, are all phenomenal opportunities that present themselves every day. And, of course, 'bakar' and 'bhasad', both real time and virtual is the stuff of folklore!

We can't wait to have you guys here, and see you taking MDI to even greater and dizzying heights! :)

People who haven't managed to convert: No platitudes really work. But, the 1st step has to be to accept and move on. There is really not much that you can do. Blaming the system does not work. We need to accept the fact that India is an overpopulated country. Therefore, in terms of quality of intake, we are not even scratching the surface. Let things settle down, and then do an honest assessment about any possible improvements.

Also, just for information sake, the final results are not really influenced by the panel's quirks and biases. Scores for are normalised across while compiling final merit rankings.
