When it comes to personalized CAT coaching (esp. basics as you mentioned) you cannot depend on the brand for your decision making.

You need to interact with teachers themselves to get a feel of whether your needs will be satisfied by a particular teacher.

My suggestion would be that you visit them and ask for a demo class before you enrol.

That should help you make up your mind

This is Mrinal.For the past two years I have been a regular user of pagalguy(more a reader than a poster though ).The old account got disabled somehow,so created a new one.I am currently working with TCS for the past 7 months.CAT 2012 will be my 3rd attempt at CAT.The first two yeilding 86.5%ile and 97.21 %ile respectively.Although I am still awaiting the new IIMs to come out with their results but still I dont want to waste any time in starting my preparations for CAT 2012.
This kind of study group is ideal for me to keep myself constantly motivated to obtain an excellent score in CAT 2012.My strong sections are LA and DI.
I am weak in geometry,plan to improve upon that area.VA is a section which has really been unpredictable.
Will try to be active on this forum at night(That is the only time I would get ).Maybe in the weekends we can organise study groups.PM me if anything like that comes up or you need any help regarding CAT preparations.

as a member of the KDT 11, I can assure you that everyone is welcome in the dt threads...may be a bit specific in your input will help to communicate faster :)

also if you are following the kdt thread, you must aware that it is only last sunday we have a meet...& I posted about that much early so that anyone can attend( & obviously everyone is welcome in any meet) :grin:

regarding particular thread for the meets, we do have a separate thread for pg kolkata meets but people seems to be using the kdt thread for same purpose for some time...so that thread has now became useless

This is bando here.It is a really great venture to start a thread like this.There a almost thousands CAT aspirants from kolkata and this maybe a really helpful discussion group if we all pitch in our efforts for our own good.
Personally i think we should share a bit of our past experiences(if you have any),for better information sharing and also to help people aspiring to bell the CAT for the first time.

Guys why isnt this thread up n runnng? I was going through threads of other cities. They are already holding pg meets. I searched but there wasnt any such thread for kolkata. :nono:

Regarding coaching, I totally second Abhishek_Sharma.[ Actually its great to see that a DT member like him has poured in with precious comments.].:)

Dont waste money & time on coaching. Just solve time LRDI and Quant material religiously. Follow quant thread here. For VA, I would say, dont devote too much time on random VOCAB,[ I committed this mistake last year] rather practice "commonly confused words". For Rc etc, abhishek sir did mention about GMAT material. I dont have any idea about that. If abhishek sir could just share some material or if any of you have got hold of any GMAT material then please share it here.

And yes, I would say everyone here please create an account on tcyonline [free register]. There are thousands of tests there, from all sections. The pattern is such multiple users can together challenge each other simultaneously on any one selected topic, say rc. Then the test starts, with the scoreboard f all the users being displayed at the top right corner of the screen.. Its fun to cmpete like that, plus the advantage is u get to compare ur performances ur speed etc with that of others. The only disadvantage is as free users u wont get access to the solutions .


P:S:-Some one please start a thread for kolkata pg meets..

In my opinion joining full time coaching classes is waste of time more than it is waste of money. CAT is an aptitude exam and questions being asked are really basic. These shortcuts fundey given by coaching class are useless.

Just solve any quant, LRDI material to get the idea of topics and to get basic concepts. For VA solve Gmat material. after that just practice more and more test papers. Use the time not wasted in attending coaching classes, to solve more mocks. Analyse evey mock.

Join test series of CL,IMS and Time. IMS will really help in VA.

Well as coaching centers Time and Cl rules the roost. But in TIME, they enroll more people than their faculty system can support. Believe, while many of teacher are very dexterous, few of the teachers are just not upto the mark. In simple words, faculty student ratio is low and its crowded, or else everything is cool.

CL:- Spaciousness and the English teacher Madhu Maam clearly steals the show.

Regarding the test series it is still early days as the tests begin in the month of July!
