I mean do these people include CAT, XAT and CET aspirants...or were they just from CAT...because as far as I remember my GD-PI process took place before CET results were declared..

FYI, Somaiya accepts only CAT scores for their PG program, no other test scores are considered.

Yesterday morning only the 2nd link was present.. the one with the results for part time courses.. in the evning this link too came up.. i dont understand the reason of putting up this link after the GD/PI is over.. guess the results r gonna be out soon.....

Actually they had to change the structure of the site, as they have declared results for their part time courses....

it says 10-15 n not 7-10...
its really not practically possible for them to give out results before 10...

Hey all,

I had my interview at Mumbai on the 26th. Just after the presentation , someone had raised the question about the declaration of the results....

The guy mentioned that the results would be out between 10th to 15th April..

Another interesting point that was answered in one of the queries was that the placement committee for K J Som is tottally made up of student ( similar to other colleges ) and the decision about lateral placements ( whether to hve them or not ) and about Multiple offers ( more than 1 offer to any student ) was their decision.

He , however, did add that currently ( or this year ) K J Som did not allow more than 1 offer to anyone...

Hi Puys!!!

Had my GD/Pi on 25th 1:30 pm.

From what I had read from the post of so many of our friends having there GD/PI's in various center's, one thing I noted is that one of the interview panelist use to go out of the room during the PI atleast for couple of times...I thing there they must be having some policy of checking some qualities out of it...

In all had an average Case Study...

Our topic was "Do India need improvements in the Educational system or do we need more number of Universities???"

Every group that day had the caselet on the same topic...

Essay was on the topic of " How to stop people from making Black Money?"

PI was quite good and they ask you mostly on what you have written in your Profile form...Same method followed for CET MMS Maharastra PI...

Guess psychometry test hasnt been allocated any marks ?

A few surprises @doc verification stage...

Firstly, they consider only the final year marks in engineering to calculate the grad percentage...funny...didnt we work hard in the 1st 3 years, as well ???
Due to that my acads marks sank to 12 frm 15....:oops:

Then came the shocker....while verifying the work exp certificates, they allowed for my wipro experience, but did not consider my current exp as Im working for a start-up right now ( thought it pays me twice as much as wipro used to pay..!!) The reason being : Aise chotte company ka work-exp nahin chaltaa....guess he dint know how small was Google when it began..!!!

Very unprofessional..!!!!

Essay topics :

Is cricket killing all other games in India ?? ( duh..what a question..!!)
OR
Are BPO/ITES causing stress to urban Indian youth ??

GD : Caselet on whether film-making should be introduced as a subject in our curriculum to improve the quality of film-making....

PI : Was normal....just asked on what I had written in the profile sheet....

I wasnt asked to submit any work-exp copies...shall verify frm somaiya office whether thats required ? Was everyone asked to submit copies ???

sorry dude but nobody can advise u on that front...
it is ur very personal choice n u should be prepared not just mentally but also with some facts n figures to convince the panel about ur preference...

n try to be honest as mush as possible... it really helps.
one more thing, its not necessary at all that u'll be asked anything about ur preference... in my PI, there wasn't the slightest reference to my preference...
i was only asked about my hobbies, work-ex etc.

Process started bang on time. A really long process. The whole time u r referred to by last 3 digits on Somaiya application form, so keep ur ears open. I missed my roll call.
Physcometric test (CBT) -> PPT Presentation -> Essay -> Case-study -> PI
Physcometric test (15 mins)
Around 35-40 questions that have to be rated from 1-5. 1 being least likely and 5 being most likley action that you would take under the circumstances.

PPT Presentation (20 mins)
A ppt created by 2nd yr students about the college followed by question-answer session.

Essay (15-20 mins)
Two topics were given. IPL auction and Is Indian economy slowing down?
Select any one and write an essay with a 300 word limit. We were told that emphasis will be given to both, English and content.

Case-study (12 ppl + 2 mins to think + 15 mins discussion + 1/2 minute to summarize)
Case-study was about foreign tourists. The stats were given. Problems faced because of law and order etc were given. Even the latest Scarlett murder was mentioned. No fish market. Almost every1 spoke.

Document verification
These guys have a predifined weightage for acads. (i might be wrong with the percentage ranges.. but this is an indicator)

10 >80% 5 marks 70-80% 2 marks
12 >80% 5 marks 70-80% 2 marks
Grad >70% 8 marks 65-70% 3 marks 60-65% 2 marks
PG don't remember

The graduation percentage is a real let down for students of universitites where is tough to score :(

Was first in my group. Waited patiently for half hour till 11:30 for PIs to start.
There was a small fiasco about the documents that should be carried. I was not told and I was carrying only originals and profile sheet in the room. I was asked to submit Profile sheet + work-ex letters (photocopies) during interview. So came out to get photo-copies mid-way thru the interview. (This is a first for me)

P1: Was going thru my work-ex letters (2 companies in 2.5 yrs) and was trying to count no of months for 2 mins.
P1: Tell me abt yourself
P1: Profile at work, challenges, learnings etc
P1: Specialization, why?
Me: Operations as I have worked in retail domain
P1: trying to coax me into applying for PGDM - Retail!!!
P2: Do u read books?
Me: Generally do not read much of non-technical books
P2: Tell me about the last non-technical book u read? :confused:
Me: From here it went on to books, books and more books... It was as if I was being questioned on someone else's hobbies. A Complete disaster!!! :bomb:

Somaiya has pre-defined weightages for all the stages. So, I think high-percentilers, high-performers in acads, work-ex guys (2+ yrs) have an edge over others.

With poor acads, (by somaiya benchmarks) not so good percentile (94.XX), a disastrous PI and 2 yrs of work-ex, I don't think i stand much of a chance. But there are 120(PGDM) + 60(PGDM-IB) seats. So, am hoping to figure in waiting list.

I think it's better to take them along, esp the CAT admit card and scorecard as these are the ones that are checked for sure

I think they may be having score slabs such as
90-93: 30 marks
93-95: 50 marks
95-98: 65 marks
98+: 75 marks

This is just my view that things may work this way as this is the most logical according to me..... Another way is to work according to the unitary method..... Thus, 91 out of 100 would mean:

91/100 * 80 = 73(approx)
but this method would mean that the difference between a 91 %iler and a 99 %iler is only 6 marks(99 %ile means approx 79 marks), which I feel is not very practical.....

These are two methods I can think of, although I feel they probably would be using the 1st method...... I don't think anyone else apart from the panel themselves knows exactly what method is being employed, so I suggest there's no point in worrying about these facts.....

Do take the photocopies if possible n also get them attested. if possible, u can also take the print-out of the CAT-score card.
U can mention atleast 2 strengths/weaknesses each, n be prepared for another 2 if asked in PI, with justification for all of them.(i mentioned 2 each in my form n wasn't asked for more but was asked to justify those in PI).

they r only checking ur CAT score card, CAT admit card and the profile sheet of KJ Somaiya....
(in originals) n no other docs r neede there ...

we were initially given 2 topics .... to write ...: 1 sports need foreign coaches 2 tech innovations have made our life simple or complicated...
then tere was psychometric test..
after that we were called ina room in front of 2 member panel....
that was case study on internet usage in india....... firstly ther was extempore n after that discussion but everyone else except two of us was doing blah blah from outside n his own life n quoting figures... w t f yar.....
then there was PI on HR question basically..
all those questions
why mba?
why operations?
which book u read?
which newspaper? why?? editors?/
then why u quit ur last job?
what ur goal in life n plzz nomotherhood statements.....??
ur strenghts, hobies..
they were quite informal .. as if they had already slected the candidates thru their profile..
who knows....

CAT - 80
GD - 30
PI - 50 (including work experience)
Written Comm test - 15
Past Academic Record - 25
total is 200 marks....

Had my GDPI yesterday...as everyone must be aware of the whole process, i'll just give an outline...

first document verification, then essay...u can choose from two topics...15 mins to write...1st topic was "Are the stock markets the real indicators of our economy?"
the second topic was something about indian fast food outlets competing with mcdonalds et al..cant remember the exact topic as i wrote on the stock markets one...


then a psychometric test...very simple...the kind that frequently appears in magazines and self help books, etc...all of u must have tried something similar atleast once... :D

GD was a case study on reckless driving...it covered drunken driving, underage driving, bribing the traffic police etc...we had to list various ways in which we can make our roads safer...
10 participants..each one had to speak for 90 seconds first...then the discussion was open...for 15 minutes i think...when 1 minute was remaining, they asked us to summarize...
it was an okayish GD...only 4 people were participating..the rest just spoke 2-3 times throughout..

PI was very casual...the panelists were cracking jokes throughout the interview...it lasted for more than 20 minutes...a bit long, compared to other institutes' PIs.

why mba? why not further studies in grad area??
tell us what u know about IPL...will it be successful...business model...
poor condition of hockey...comparison with cricket...
which movie have u seen recently? what did u learn from it?
the last book u have read...what is it about? author? other books by him?

national flower & animal of india?? why?
other calls?? preference??
describe the other GDPI processes attended by u...what was the topic of the gd at each one? how did u contribute?
why finance as specialization??
ur hobbies? some questions on them...
some acads related questions...

all answers have to be HANDWRITTEN clearly on the profile sheet, well WITHIN the space provided for answers...
no extra sheets r allowed to be attached..

so it may b possible u get free earlier also as it depends totally on the group n sequence number u r allocated to....
