I am not able to read the admissions cell at IIM S, i have tried contacting the folks but no one is picking the call. I am quite interested in joining the course but kind of response i am getting is really annoying. No one is willing to answer the queries, infact everyone is hiding the facts. Please suggest me what to do now, if anybody has any info on the following questions then please revert back

1) Clarity on the course structure, what we will study in the entire course
2) Will there be any common courses or can we take specialised courses from the begining?
3) Will the course be divided into trimester format or will there be only 2 terms (india/china)
4) Finally is the acceptance money refundable if i decide to pull out from the module?

You mean all 19 who got cleared in first WL are joining the course? Or do you mean that 19 got cleared in WL-1.

1. Post graduate diploma in international business (same as MBA from IIM). We are not sure at this point in time if you can apply for FPM. we will confirm about this later. Generally Executive Programs in IIM are design not for pursuing career in research or teaching.

2. Yes. This is a joint course between IIM Shillong, India and OUC, China and all the modalities are jointly decided by IIM Shillong and OUC.

3. We have design FLL for students having no knowledge about foreign language. (However you can pursue on your foreign skills from now but that is your personal choice.)

4. Final placement depends on market conditions, sector performance, past employment records/ achievements and your performance in the program and interview.
It is very subjective and too early to specify the range. of course IIMS will provide sufficient support to achieve your goal.

Here are few queries that I hope you would answer, taking some time off your busy schedule.

1. "Joint Certification from India (IIM Shillong) and China (OUC, Qingdao)" mentioned in the PGPEx page of your web site.

Is it a normal PGDM course equivalent ? Can I pursue FPM on basis of this degree ? I have seen your reply to one of the candidates claiming that it is the case so, but I needed to confirm myself.

2. Corporate internships provided would be located in China ? Will IIM Shillong arrange the internship or the partner institute ?

Would it be domain specific ? Example, Telecom experience participant gets into Telecom firm, automotive experience gets into Automobile vertical etc ?

3. I appreciate the FLL concept and was wondering if I should start working on my foreign language skills from now onwards ? Would Chinese by compulsory ?

4. I will not ask about the placements as our is a pilot batch. I hope we do well. But at the same time, I do realize that I am one of the least experienced professionals with 3 years and 1 month experience in core telecommunication domain (Nokia Siemens and Ericsson). I hope it would not be held against me at the time of the placement visits.

There is no division of course structure base on the place of stay. Program is integrated and lecture will continue through out the program.

PG Diploma in International Business.

It is very difficult to list out the name at this stage as we have yet to consolidate the profile of the batch. This will happen only after the starting of the program.

The course will start from 15 June 2012.


15 June 2012 to 11 July 2012 - India
15 July 2012 to 22 Dec 2012 - China
15 Jan 2013 onwards - India

Practical problem oriented real projects which is operational at that particular point of time.

So. I have inclination toward subjects of operations like Project Management, Supply Chain Management etc which is in line with my experience.

As per the trailing mail, I could not find these topic in covered in second layer.

1. Will all these subject can also be covered in the second layer ?

Or what all subjects will be covered with respect to operations in second layer ?

2. As we will be spending 6 months in China, so it will be very grateful if you can elaborate the course details during China visit ?

I could not find the detailed module structure/subjects in brochure during 6 months of China visit.

3. The degree offered will be Executive PGP or PGDM (same as 2 year PGP course of IIM Shillong). Please Clarify ?

The reason, why one should join this course should be purely personal, based on your own judgement. There are many positive aspects of this course, and it has its own share of un-sureness.

My salary is 16L,(I am working is same company for last 6 years, the company has good reputation in Telecom industry) and have offers of ~20L, and I have my own reasons for joining this course, leaving my current job, and that might make no sense to some. But most importantly you should be convinced why you want to join. Then only you would be able to get best out of it.

I talked to SBI and PNB
SBI will provide upto 80% of the fees which comes to 10L @14% interest and needs collateral
PNB will provide upto 15L@12% interest for IIM students without collateral.
Please collect similar info from credila representative and post it.
I will join if they give it without collateral

HDFC credila 12 Lac 12.75% without collateral. anything above 12 lac you have to give collateral. means if you take a loan of 15 lac you have to give collateral of 3 lac. You can go for PNB its good. they have (PRATIBHA scheme for IIM). Its once in a life time opportunity don't miss it.

I had a chat with the HDFC Credilla bank representative today and told them about the batch. According to them they can offer us a good package if they have many ppl opting for the loan. I am in Delhi for this week and can plan a meeting with them on wednesday morning of in case few more ppl are interested.

Also I can talk to them regarding other people in different cities.

I know. I cant wait to visit the exotic locations as a part of the program. I always dreamt of traveling and here is a chance of realizing my long lost dream.

Get serious dude, it is a BIG gamble!! Also, many women in their late 20s do MBAs..What world are you living in - early 1900s??

If I were earning 10LPA, I wouldn't get into all this which would cost me some 30Lacs( 20 Lacs fees + 10 Lacs cost of opportunity + MBA opportunity used up) for an Indian placement that could be averaging around 12-13 LPA.

Would really build confidence among participants if they do so. Especially considering that most of us who opt for full student loans would be re-paying somewhere in the region of 40 to 60K a month, for about 5 years (depending on our borrowings).

You are expecting a lot. If you go to any private b school today, this is the fees generally. So dont think that you are paying a huge amount.
