As you have already read many of the
posts and could have understood how bad the situation in great lakes, ggn is.
These are few more facts:
1.
Half of the 13’batch is yet to be placed and the course is over. Management had
said they will get everyone placed before the convocation.
2.
Even 14’batch has not got their summer internship, few are still waiting. Will
get by the end of this month.
3.
Visiting faculty, very good (only positive thing). In-house, one or two are
very good and rest......even I can read through the slides.
4.
Hostel sucks; management is charging
exorbitant money for the duration of 9 months and is not providing you the
basic facility. They can’t even do something to get you proper food as they
have taken some PGs on rent, so you will be running between PG owner and
management to get things fixed. Better you search on your own; you will much
better facility @5k-7k. Don’t pay the hostel fee without actually looking at
the hostel and near .
5.
Hostel is far from college, so you will be wasting your time in waiting for
bus, travelling. Even if you don’t have class for 3-4 hours, you can’t come to
hostel as there won’t be any bus. People don’t know the importance of time
management and will teach us management.
6.
Food in the hostel and in college is bad, can’t even say “it’s ok”. And you
tell it to management, and keep telling, you will start eating out but
management won’t do anything as they have contract with the vendor and for good
food vendors will charge extra. So, eat what you are getting or go somewhere else
to eat.
7.
Don’t fall sick without informing management, otherwise you won’t get food in
the hostel as you have to eat your lunch in college. So, keep an eye on your
health and keep predicting when you are going to fall sick (future managers,
should be good in forecasting). N don’t fall sick in the college, hostel is too
far and management won’t arrange anything.
8.
Two types of hostel- AC and NON-AC. AC hostel is somewhat ok, but you will
enjoy the NON-AC hostel. It is a PG, built in an illegal area, so from
main-road to hostel, there is no road. Power supply will make you’re your stay
more miserable and please get your electronics items insured before entering
the NON-AC hostel. You will be living in surroundings full of nature’s beauty.
You will get pigs, insects and mosquitos for your company. No proper
ventilations in room. To get a mosquito spray, to get bathrooms & rooms
cleaned on regular basis, to get a water purifier or fixing of washing machine
or for getting fix the other things you have to follow the procedures. You
should write mails, explain it to college who (College or PG owner) will do the
job, get approvals and then, if you are lucky enough someone will do something.
In the same locality you will get room at half the price.
9.
Campus!!!!! It’s a rented building which belonged to some bpo or call center (you
can still see its name on the name plate at main door). It is so small that it
will end as soon as you enter it. We are hearing the same news regarding
campus from past two years which you are hearing that you will be informed and
there are chances of getting into new campus (but don’t know when). No place
for sports activity(not even for playing chess), poor condition of library, not
enough books, no canteen, even not enough classrooms to conduct the classes.
Management won’t even buy those books which are recommended by visiting faculties.
They will charge you money for study materials but they don’t provide you
books. It will be a war to get the book issued which the faculty has
recommended as books are few in numbers.
10. GYM!!!!! You
might get it a place near to the hostel.
11. Internship, mostly
unpaid and you will be very lucky if you get the internship in the domain and
functional specialization of your choice or from the very first day in college,
start impressing the concerned person and go and meet him on regular basis for
nothing. No one will ask you before sending your name for any company. Company
won’t shortlist you; you will be shortlisted in college by a person with his
own personal opinion about you. So, start impressing the person from the very
first day in college.
12. Placements!!!!!! If
you are lucky, you will get a job . The management which can’t provide proper
food, proper living conditions, proper faculties, paid internship to full
batch, from where they will get you a job. You are expecting too much. And
anyway, THIS IS NOT A PLACEMENT AGENCY, WE ARE HERE TO PROVIDE YOU QUALITY
EDUCATION (which you can get from some other good colleges also with
guaranteed opportunities to get placed, here you won’t get that also). DON’T
JUST COME HERE FOR PLACEMENT, COME HERE FOR EDUCATION. DON’T TRY TO TAKE
ADVANTAGE OF GREAT LAKES BRAND NAME, HELP US IN IMPROVING IT (WITHOUT
GETTING PLACED).
13. ROI, awesome. You
might lose all the money invested. Course fee is 11lakhs for the new batch
(including fooding and lodging) and if you are working already then calculate
exactly how much you can lose. And you will be blamed for not being competent
enough to get a job even if no company is visiting the campus, sorry, building.
14. Placement Office,
the guy who holds the position does not have much of the relevant experience.
But as he has invested a large chunk of money in the college, so, he is playing
with our careers.
15. AICTE approval!!!!
Not an AICTE approved college so you can’t apply for the government jobs. And the kind of placement college is providing you will take a big risk.
16. IT guys, DON’T
COME HERE!!!!!! Even if you have very strong liking for the energy field
and you are frustrated like anything with your current job, then also wait for another year. You won’t be getting
shortlisted for many companies because of your IT background and won’t get good
opportunities. You might end up approaching your company for internship and
final placement. So, be there for one more year, work harder for some good
college where they actually provide the opportunity to get placed.
17. Wi-Fi connection,
better you buy your own data stick.It is so slow that most of the time it takes ages to send a mail or download a file.
18. For each and every
necessary thing, management will check its price and whether it has a routine
maintenance requirement or not. If the item requires maintenance, which will
add up to the cost, so straight away no.
It is correct Sir that you guys are
here to provide us quality education. But we students who left their good and
established careers, we are not here just for that. We need good placement
scenario and placements opportunities, along with proper living condition,
which are very bad in your institution. We are paying you a very large sum of
money as fee and there are too many hidden cost also like our salary of two
years, bank interest on educational loan and other career opportunity. So,
please just don’t say that we should not make getting a job as our high
priority. Because we can learn everything from net, all the rules and
regulations, all the policies, recent and past happenings in energy sector;
everything is available on net. But if you are not able to provide us good
placements opportunities, because your team is not competent enough, so please
don’t always blame market scenario as from past two years management is saying.
I don’t think management is bothered about getting good and well established
companies for the internship and placement. You guys are just concerned about
spreading this business and making money and you want us not to think of
placements.
I know there are some very
enthusiastic students in college who will put these things into trash, will put
a very good picture of college and will discredit above mentioned things. You are free to
do that as this will be my first and last post. But before blaming me, ask the management to rectify these things and just don’t make promises if the
management doesn’t want to deliver. For placements you can blame market
condition that it is not good, but what about the other basic facility which a
b-school charging so much of fee should have.
