sayanddude well, it`s messy out there.... first of all, why would anyone after completing fpm from IIMs or other reputed business schools would want to teach in local govt univ & colleges... btw some colls do recognize fpm as equivalent to phd while hiring... anyways, this is one of the issue which the IIM bill might solve provided it ever passes!!!

AAOne umm...'who can't (or do not want to) publish' never even bothered abt giving any kind of feedback on dis...ppl who hav published aggressively hav said such things...dey even cited instances where just adding a foreign co-author (widout making any other change in d original paper) made it too easy for dem Also, the newbies belonged 2 a certain region of d world....however, i wud still maintain dat dey won't reject a good paper !!

invban I think whatever is being discussed about publishing papers above and I do not really know how it works since I am new to research is a good indication of what to expect and how to deal with it .....Having said that , I have always maintained that one should never go in to any field of life with "preconceived notions" and try to find his /her own path irrespective of what the hurdles are .......going in with a "clean slate" and a good healthy perspective will always help IMHO.........Let us not bind ourselves by any limitations and constraints and try to be the best in what we do .....

urwithdevesh I believe instead of ranking, a similar comparison could be on a) No of research publications for a particular year b) No of Fellow scholars who joined academics/consulting/research programs, etc. c) Foreign collaboration programmes d) Student testimonials, etc.. Such detailed parameters with their results will help in assessing a fpm/ph.d program.. List is not exhaustive though.

AAOne @urwithdevesh @mmgg it wud still b difficult 2 judge a school/institute/university for the PhD programme solely...for instance, the first ever PhD from an IIT is Dr. Manilal Bhaumik (graduated in 1958 when there existed only one IIT & hardly anyone knew what an IIT is worth ) -- and he's a renowned laser-scientist (owns patents for LASIK, etc.)!! Every thesis happens to be a fresh contribution...which kills the basis for comparison straightaway!! MBA -- well, a big bunch of students are taught the same courses against the fixed amount of fees charged and they take the same number of quizzes & tests, spend the same amount of time together, come up with similar output

Anisen Rohtak is near to Delhi and Trichy is near to bangalore/chennai.So both the institutes have their own advantage.But South India has more IT hub and opportunities than any one in India.

invban I think being "good" is a very subjective criteria more so in a course like FPM where the research candidate has to do most of the research on his own initiative and motivation . The older IIMs definitely have an edge here since they have churned out many FPMs and would have some processes designed to further refine the output and debottleneck the constraints . As regards younger ones , they will learn in due course of time and interestingly just as a younger employee is more enthusiastic to experiment and evolve they may , in due course of time give a new direction to the FPM . All in all it depends mostly on what is one's motivation level to do an FPM and how smart he or she is to utilize the three resources of time , energy and intellect to achieve their goals ...

OnceWasPO All too true @invban . I believe one should enjoy the four year period of study and relish the fact that one is paid to read and gain knowledge as opposed to getting paid for sacrificing one's sanity and well being in the corporate world and getting stuck in the rat race.

invban @OnceWasPO yeah thats true , and the more I think about it , more I think that it is the first and foremost duty of all PhD candidates to aim to be excellent in what they do because of the money being spent on them - if one calculates taking into account the fees paid by PGPs for the 2 years and have a notional figure , probably it will work out in the range of 20-25 lacs + or more , generally speaking I have interacted with quite a few PhD candidates and I felt either they are not motivated to put in their best or they had chosen the path either out of compulsion of quitting Corporate or no other option in hand , so its a dangerous situation when as u pointed out one tries to fit in academics because Corporate is too harsh ......I mean one should join PhD for the love of it rather than an excuse ..........the above being my personal view point though cheers !

IIM Indore FPM results are announced ... I have yet another rejection ... I am convinced now that it is almost impossible to convince the profs at IIMs that I am the right person with the right mind set for the PhD level program ... the results of selected candidates is on their web site at ......

sayanddude Yes there are quite a few universities in India where people do phd by simply copy and pasting stuffs... but management research or fpm is bit different and getting in faculty positions in premier b schools is not that easy for someone who do it from tier 2 institutes though there are some exceptions. Btw I believe both the brand name of the institute and the quality of publishing matters if one wants a successful career in academia.

sb29 @mmgg Many reasons. So that when these students' work gets publish, even the faculty gets a publication. If the school had to hire normal teaching and research assistants, it would cost a lot. Moreover, it also is a prestige issue when graduates from your PhD program teaches in other prestigious schools.

Guys....Only candidate selected in OB & HRM in IIM Raipur out of 46 opted for it.... Stipend is very lucrative and institute infra is OK.....however will be joining XLRI in HRM....Pls. suggest am i in the right route???
