Why cant there be an option other than CAT when Great Lakes can conduct a online exam and come up with results next day Why can't IIM's do that. I agree no of takers for CAT is far more than GREAT but so is the resorces , so is the fututre of people at stake. When ever I write anything these days in English I think of that 42 percentile in English. Gosh how can I ? It's just not me.

I have a abysmally low Verbal percentile which is 42. I feel so small , in my entire history of taking mocks and paper I had never known anyone with percentile below 60. I always used to wonder who gets such percentile and somehow this time I am coming across people with as low as 22 percentile.
Thats not all I have a 99.75 percentile in Quant which is again not possible as 98 I can still fathom but 99.75 in Quant thats not me.

Why not contact some leading politician, may be from opposition or Rahul Gandhi who seems to favour yuoth a lot?

Lots of people in this forum have been mailing various media houses and IIM directors and HRd ministers.. there has been no response .. some one with personal contact can help....

I had 56 Attempts myself and have written just CAT only. Being a graduate from IIT I know while attempting QA and DI, I was confident in attempting almost all right.(19/20 in both) Still getting 80/150, 79/150 is just ridiculous.
I really cant digest this. I aint comparing English where i got just 50%ile because I know answers could vary there. But in Quant/ DI, they had to be correct.

Even if they would have given us so called Tough questions we could have attempted and got almost the same number of question right. They just cant compare the people across various slots.
If one slot has maximum number of people who deserve to be in then how can you not chose them and chose others.

Even after all the mishappenings inCAT 2009, I was still confident in IIMs that they should be able to do justice.

What they can atleast do is tell the exact scores adn another different percentile based on exact scores. Maybe other IIMs look into them.

ya i totally agree..they sud tel the xact scores.....even i was confident nd qa nd di....nd di is ma strngest.....jst got 59/150 nd in qa 41/150.....verbal i hav attempeted least nd 87%in tht.....the ppr was not so though.....i had xpected a gud percentile.....bt they shatterd al ma dreams....no sense of doing normalization.....for 1 the ppr seem to b diff nd for othr the same ppr seems to b diff..they sud cm out wid the xact scores....

Not much hope from IIMs reg this. all premier institiutes must consider alternate scores or select using profiles.

can the court stay the results...it would jeopardise the carrer of 90% of us since a rerecat is not possible...since the process will take another 3 to 4 months...it will ruin other good b schools and its aspirants...

also at tis moment iim bosses would be ruing the fact that they dd not not cancel the test in dec itself....but they cannot retrace at this moment...no chance at all...

I would say that IIMs delayed the results intentionally, so that students get less time to react and appeal against the scores !!!
I understand that it may affect only 10% of us, but do we deserve a gap of another year for MBA? And what is the guarantee that such a thing won't happen again?
Most of the guys who are raising voice are the ones who were really expecting good scores and were dependent on the scores for their career. E.g. overall score of 95%le but screwed up in VA (for 5th Dec guys) or other section in different time slots.
I already have 5 years of experience and the only institute I can afford to get into for my MBA is IIM. No other B School in India would be able to place a lateral well with such an experience. Everyone says that I am tailor-made for MBA and I always wanted to study in the Best B School of India. So shall I again wait for another year now and still hope that CAT will not have any issues next year? We had virtually staked our lives on the CAT, and this is what they have come up with !!!

Anyways, I am happy for the guys who were already expecting less that 90, and they can go ahead with their already made choices for non-premier institutes. For the IIM going guys, lucky you (with very few genuine exceptions)and all the best !!!

It is the same here. I am also from IIT and I ave got a 64 percentile in QA!! How on earth can that happen when I have consistently done better in other exams and I have a call from XLRI (BM) and a jmet rank of 475!! In QA our accuracy is decent so how can I justify such a low score.

I just wanted to add that I think that due to the normalization there is a strong chance that two or more people would end up with same score. Though there is nothing wrong with it because it happens in usual exams as well but if we can compare the attempts of the people with same score, we will have a rough idea about how they have carried out normalization.

DI: 76.xx (also my strongest area, scores lies 97-99%ile)

IRMA 2009: 127 (cut off 110 missed GK cutoff)
IIFT 2009: 37.xx (missed GK cutoff by 0.12)

Type of Injustice done to you?
I was expecting very high percentile as compared to what i hv got.
Its a complete injustice to all the deserving candidates. I know ppl who were scoring 99.xx in almost all tests consistently, hv finally landed up at just 92%ile and there are many who dnt deserve hv got 99.xx
Is normalization being done for justice??

Probable suggestion (in short) - what do u want now & what can be done?

I myself in a state of tension , please help guys (CAT committee) in whatever manner u can. The result is totally unacceptable. Its not worth it. The image and transparency has been ruined pathetically.

on the basis of the %ile of my friends and mine too,
considering their attempts and final %ile and their other performance
there has been progressive deduction of marks with increase in mistakes
i.e.
the more mistakes u make the lesser you get.
for example
first guy attempts 55,gets 45 correct he gets suppose 90%ile
second guy attempts 50 gets 44 correct he gets 95%ile..
my opinion is that the more ur mistakes at the same score u get less %ile...

waise no complins to iim...i dd bad in xams...
finally got 94.3.....


and second part of the story:::

lets say 10% of us are not satisfied of our results due to iims,prometric,etc..

but do you think filling an pil would help...
can the court stay the results...it would jeopardise the carrer of 90% of us since a rerecat is not possible...since the process will take another 3 to 4 months...it will ruin other good b schools and its aspirants...

also at tis moment iim bosses would be ruing the fact that they dd not not cancel the test in dec itself....but they cannot retrace at this moment...no chance at all...

best we can hope is a clarification....
which they will have to come out with sooner or later...under mandatory disclousre agreement like all do with there cuttoffs...
and please mods can we have a poll on all cat releated threads about the no of people not happy with the results.

did really well in QA---got 91.88.

I do not have habit of making wild guesses(do not have the guts actually:biggrin:)

VA got 98.2(i thought i did okay)...but really disappointed with DI...

anyone from the same slot sharing similar stories regarding DI

Nov 29, evening slot...got meagre 42 percentile in DI..had attempted 15 qs....was expeting nothing less than 90 in this section...I had attempted this first...was expecting a low score in VA-got 97 there...and 95 in QA....quite sure sthg went wrong somewhere ... have a cynical feeling about this slot's DI scores... :banghead:

Very unhappy and unsatisfied by my Quant and DI scores.
Both of them are my strongest sections.

Have been consistently in top 96-98% in TIME AIMCATS.

I am a CAT aspirant this year and have shared my details at the end of this mail. I have been writing this exam for last three years now. It always have been presumed that IIMs are fair and transparent while conducting this test for the least. And I have also believed this till yesterday i.e. 28th Feb, 10 when IIMs declared results for CAT 09.
Sorry to hear that.

I am putting this on record that I (and lot of people share this view on pagalguy.com , orkut, facebook, coaching institutes etc) have been cheated by the process that IIM and Prometric (their partner for CAT 09) have implemented in CAT 09.
How can you say that you have been cheated by IIMs and Prometric? You may say that you feel that you've been cheated...

We all know that how mismanaged CAT was this year. But somehow we as students felt that IIMs will still deliver and live upto the expectations of 2.4 lakh students. That feeling is now evaporated and sheer anger has taken its place.

Let me put things in perspective due to which I along with thousands feel that we have been cheated and its gross injustice.
Thousand is a grossly exaggerated figure but we understand your feelings...

1) Every section had 20 ques each. This was all we knew during the exam. Its marking scheme was not made public neither that they will apply psychometric equivalences to carry out percentiles.

2) Every section has maximum marks of 150 (which we came to know after the results). That makes every ques of 7.5 marks. That is not possible because their are negative marking as well and all the students have got scores as whole numbers.

3) Their are students (some of them my friends) who have not been able to clear any of the management exams this year and have suddenly got percentiles which make them contenders for an coveted IIM seat. Also, their are students who have done extremely well in all entrance exams and shockingly got percentiles of 50-60.
The purposes of conducting an entrance exam are many that includes, but not limited to, judging the level of students, selecting the candidates that are most likely the best match for the B-schools. Having said that, no two days are same and no one can be sure of giving the same output on two different days. So your claim is baseless and hence not considered here.

4) Verbal section is (I feel) is the main culprit. Lot of posts on pagalguy.com shows that people have got low percentiles because of verbal section. Even I consider verbal section as my strength and have cracked many entrance exam this year but have got 49 percentile in verbal after attempting 80% of the section. I was sure of all of them getting correct. This is simply not acceptable.
You have to accept this fact irrespective of the fact whether you like it or not. We can see your command on English from the fact that you find it hard to differentiate between "there" and "their".

5) Reading posts also reveals that students on 5th Dec and 6th Dec are the ones getting very high percentiles. In fact all of my friends who have high percentiles have taken exam on one of these two days.
Reading other posts reveal that a lot of students have cracked 99.5+ overall percentile with 95+ percentile in individual section. We really don't see any point in this point of yours.

6) IIMs have used some psychometric equivalences to ensure that scores are calculated on same difficulty level. But this method is not made public neither the question papers/respective answer sheets. That makes whole system opaque and so we cant cross check whether scores given by IIMs are our own scores or they has been manipulated.
Please file a RTI. We'll give it complete coverage.

7) Their had been wide spread cheating happened on testing days. I am myself witness to one of such cases.
Did you report this to IIMs/Prometric? If yes, please share the copy of your mail to them with us. If you didn't report this then what kept you from reporting this? In any case, why was your confidence on CAT/IIM not shaken after watching this problem? Why did you wait till results were out?

Their are rumors that IIMs' partners involved in CAT 09 have used their positions for vested interests.

I request TIMES NOW and Mr Aranab Goswami via this mail to find out the truth behind this fiasco and help our grievances in reaching right ears.
We are quite busy at this time. Please take the AI from our response above and do as appropriate and let us know once you've filed the RTI.

i dont think there is any point accumulating data and raising the voice.....if our voice was to be heard, than it wud have been heard b4 the results.....atleast at that time the ppl who have now scored good marks were a part of it but now they will be quite and happy....why wont they be...if i wud have been at their place, i wud also have been happy....
the unusual scores obtained is not coz the public is incapable but coz other ppl have done better.....and we all know that what all has happened in this yrs ppr.....
a possible solution cud be if other institutes consider other exams result...xat, snap, jmet....
if not nitie, MDI and IMT can atleast do that....

i had attempted abot 34 questions .. i think accuracy will be about 85 %.. i gt only 58 %.

qa was medium type in slot..bt di and VA wer tough according to me...

I m from same slot as u r.i compleetely agree with you abt difficulty level.i attempted appx.42 ques.i got 91%le.Though i scored pretty low in va..78%

Another short story :

After looking at the analysis of CAT papers taken before 5th december I went in with a bias that I have to do a lot of questions (16+ ) in Quant to get a good percentile ( Reason: CAT 08 : QA-79.6 :banghead:, VA-98.32, DI-98.83 , OA-98.73 ).

During the test I felt that quant was tough , I was able to do some 12-13 questions and when I left exam hall after attempting 50+ questions I was sure that I have aced DI/VA but screwed QA badly.

fast fwd to 28th Feb : CAT scores are out; I ended up with a 98+ in QA and a measly 87 in DI and 83 in VA !!! I just cant believe that I cud get this high a score in QA and such pathetic scores in the other 2 areas.

What I am not able to figure out is that what is the efficiency of CAT in accessing a candidates level in areas like qa/va/di .... My scores in last 2 years in all the three areas have no correlation at all and I am sure same is the case with a lot of people.

Totally agree to this guys please fill the spreadsheet. We will need a lot of correct records to make a case of biased slots. Ask all your friends also to fill up the sheet. Don't spread it via twitter or Facebook as people may delete records. Spread via IM.

Overall - 92.72%.

I got better score in va compared to my pervious records. But quants, it would not have gone so bad. I didn't expect such a low percentile in maths even in wildest of my dreams.

My records:
Xat 10 - overall - 93.43%, Quants - 96.16%,
cat 08 - overall - 98.5%, quants -98.xx%,
cat 07 - overall - 97.8%, quants - 95.xx%

I have never scored such a low percentile in quants in any of my mocks. Quants is my strongest session and i consistently get above 90 percentile.

when guys are sweating their blood for preparation, this psychometric analysis/correction is not wise. cat should not be conducted online. There should not be 20 question papers anymore.

Single question paper, direct key, complete transparency; Can we get that golden era back? Atleast next year, online cat should be removed and it should return to paper pencil.

I am totally confused, whether to write cat for fourth time next year or just take some b schools which i get this time.
