I'm Uday and would be taking CAT for the third time CAT 2012...:-(

The following is my profile -

1. Work experience: 36 months (Oil & Gas sector) (till Aug 2012)
   
2. Dual degree - CGPA 6.83 (B.tech + M.tech in in Mechanical engg.)
   
3. Higher secondary - 95.5% (State board - Andhra Pradesh)
   
4. Secondary - 87.1% (State board - Andhra Pradesh)
   

I want to get into IIM A or B

Please suggest me regarding the following -

1. What sort of score should I aim with the following profile?
   
2. Is it feasible to get into IIMA or IIMB?
   
3. By the I will join, it would be nearly 4 yrs work experience. So, is it better to aim for GMAT?

hi, i am new in PG!! i think we all can study together n share our views,info's and concerns regarding MBA for working pro like us. by the by,my profile:
86%in 10th
79%in 12th
72%in B.Tech in IT
have certificates of social work, blood donations n things
currently working for cognizant, kolkata.
total work exp. 9 months.
cat score 2011: 76%(that time i just knew cat is for mba) I belong to SC.
For, family reasons, and other issues,its near impossible for me to leave a steady job lyk CTS.
suggest me folks n all the MBA guru's,
1. how shd I prepare for part time MBA??
2. which one will be better for me,part time or correspondence??
3. good colleges for mba(like IIT-kgp,IIFT)
4. which one is better IIFT delhi or IIFT kolkata?
5. apart from cat which xams r good? xat,snap...?? i heard abt these :-D
I can suggest working people like us can start practising arun sharma books, u can get them from flipkart.com, they r really usefull, then u can buy, previous yr cat papers n start preparing. I am doing the same.

I am a B.Tech 2007 batch having 54 months experience in textile manufacturing. SSC: 77%, HSC :74%, B.E: 70 %.I had written CAT'11 and got 89 percentile that too without any preparation....the nature of job is very conventional type so i want to change my field...for this i want to get into an good MBA college desperately. my target is CAT 2012. I am planning to quit my job as it is very hectic (11-12 hrs work daily+1hr travelling) to focus on my MBA preparations. Will this gap of 1 yr be a problem??????Is it too late to do MBA????what should i do...please guide....

first things first, you've a different work-ex ( not like the rest of us, typical Indian IT Male ) so a thums up for that :thumbsup:
moving on, some questions that you'll be asked for sure:

why not executive MBA?
why a year drop?
why MBA after (almost) 5 years?

as long as you can give valid (non-stereotypical) answers for the these kudos :)
and regarding the too late part, well that's for you to decide, it matters for some colleges, others are cool with it .

Total Exp: 30 months in IT. Trying for the last two years but dint gt thru CAT'10 : 83.5 2011 :87.8 , hope i will pitch in hard this time
Joined TIME classes last year, let me know if i need to buy some other stuff or the Time material & AIMCATS r sufficient?

I have been to 2IIM website and skimmed through some of their online materials. They are of good standard. Check their website and some reviews before enrolling for the class... :cheerio::cheerio:

@ above: absolutely there is weightage, but will you stop your preparation in case you know there is weightage for acads? i mean U can't change your acads now so just go ahead and score high

This is something that i keep telling my friends,
you can not change your X,XII, BE scores can you?
and if you realise that a few colleges shortlist based on acads , will you stop your preparation?
so how does your acads matter? give your best shot, max your score, rest can be worried about during GD/PI . there are prefectly valid and logical answers for "why so less mark in abc ?"

But I could see that there is some weightage given to acads too.

Hi everyone...i'm a working professional and preparing for CAT'12.....i was thinking of joining a coaching institute....but there is only Time coaching available at Vadodara (Place where i stay) and didn't get a good feedback from their past students.

I talked to BYJU classes (most of you might have heard about them) and they agreed to set-up a coaching centre here in vadodara....but their condition is that they need atleast 100 students for enrollment.

They will first arrange a demo workshop session in Vadodara (it will be free).

So, if anyone who's living in vadodara and preparing for CAT'12....can PM me....so that i can forward the approximate number of attendees for the free workshop session....!!!

Hey . Since your a fresher i would suggest that first start your preparations at the earliest. I have been taking my coaching from IMS institute and o i would have no clue about the rest. Out of experience i would say that the teaching material is good and so is the faculty. Thanks to the classes i have attended my preparation is going good. so all the best for your preparations.

You could start your preparation by getting to know about the sections and topics covered in the cat. :)

U cud also visit TestFunda, you will find some e-books. Try downloading them.

There is no comparision. Time is simply better than Ims.I have been an Ims student last year and a Time student this year.I can tell u Time is simply superb and better than Ims

You can join TIME classes. Verbal section is indeed tough. You could sign for some daily word lists , RC etc from various sites ...

Hi it's not too late. Still you have ample of time to prepare for the Exam.
If you will devote time and prepare sincerely you can make it to top 20 institutes.

So start as early you can.

Its not too late to start preparing. I too have just started preparing . Have enrolled at IMS and have been solving 100 questions per day. its really helps this way but just need to solve it religiously. its tough initially but then with the study material provided by IMS it has made it easier for me.

CAT TS :- The test series ( 10 mock tests based on CAT )
Non CAT TS :- The other exams tests ( 1 or 2 max per exam , XAT,SAP etc)
Test Gym :- Multiple section wise/topic wise practice tests ( level based )
MBA On Demand (MOD) :- All topics video lectures ( detailed and helpful if you need to understand a concept not from books + donot have time to go for classes)

I'm Dhruv , working in Ericsson , Bangalore for the past 6 months..

I gave my CAT in 2010 , got a horrible 82%ile ( though I agree it was completely my fault - hadn't studied enough..participated in ALL college activities..) and managed to convert SCMHRD ... but left it after consulting with peers,elders,seniors,alumus of the college.I had enrolledin CL regular weekend batch in Delhi.

I decided to get a couple of years of exp first before getting into management.... more so to understand the workings of an organisation and more importantly whether I really want an MBA / viz-a-vi a tech job..

So I didn't give CAT 2011 ( Again my fault )

I've decided to give CAT this year (2012) and hope to crack it..I've joined CL online test series+Test Gym+MBA On Demand --> I already have all of CL's material from 2010.
I started studying haphazardly in Jan 2012.

It gets really difficult studying after coming home - reaching around 8pm everyday(unofficial 12hrs shift )..the worst part is that none of my friends.acquaintances are studying for CAT seriously ( I'm studying the most :P)

Hardly able to give 15 hrs per week...
Reading the posts in this forum has really encouraged me to study more :)

More importantly it's shown that with my current schedule I simply won't make it. Period.

So here's to starting scheduled studies with targets in mind ( hopefully :clap:)
